iPhone 14 pro battery health reduced to 92% in less than a year

I got my iPhone in Oct 2022, the battery was quite good at the start but slowly I can see the maximum capacity being reduced as the days passed. The phone is continuously updated to the latest software and I even try to take maximum care of the phone.

As of today, the maximum capacity is just 92%. I did not expect this from Apple.

When I am paying ₹1.3 lakhs for a phone, I expect it to stay new for at least a year!!

What am I supposed to do now?!

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB and the battery health on the

30th Sept 2023 was 96%.

I've been watching it drop like a stone.

19th October 2023 94%

18th November 2023 92%

I have optimized battery charging set on, and I charge from 20% to 90%

My phone does not get hot or cold so I'm wondering why I am losing 2% per month.

In contrast, my iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB is now only at 90% battery health.

What is going on, are these batteries defective, and is the a replacement scheme by Apple, please?

Many thanks

Gray

I bought my iPhone 14 Pro in May 2023. I have been following up on the battery health frequently and what I observe is more than disappointing. I am starting to believe that there is a mechanism by which every check on the battery health gives more degradation to its battery. Joking aside, it was on 100% till 9th January 2024 and since then it started to degrade at a quick pace. Since then it went down to 93% just yesterday.

Timeline-wise it looks like this.

It started to deteriorate when I used Google Maps for around 8 hours to navigate, putting more load on the phone than usual. Then it was exposed to cold temp for some time during that trip. Since then I used it in normal circumstances but it accelerated a lot.

I am using a MagSafe charger each night, trusting the battery and charging management of the phone and the phone is used with Apple silicone cases.

I am starting to believe that Apple don't care about the battery lifecycle, as it is a nice amount of money when it comes to battery replacement. I used to have an iPhone 11 and its battery degraded from 100% to 86 between September 2019 to April 2023. With this pace for my 14 Pro I think I will get close to 88 in just one year.

Disappointing.

I’ve had my iPhone 14 pro 128GB since may of 2023, the battery is already down to 97% health (01-31-2024), the phone was at 98% health for maybe a week, I’m not too heavy a user by any means, I last checked the battery health maybe 5 days ago and it was at 98 I check it again today and it dropper to 97%, this phone isn’t even a year old, my iPhone XR lasted longer than this which makes no sense seeing this phones supposed to be better in every way, anyone know the cause for this?

It's frustrating to experience a decline in battery health, especially on a premium device like the iPhone. Here are some steps you can take to address and possibly improve the situation:

Check Battery Usage:

Go to "Settings" > "Battery" to check which apps or processes are consuming the most battery. This can help you identify if any specific app is causing excessive drain.

Optimize Settings:

Adjust settings that can impact battery life, such as screen brightness, background app refresh, and push notifications. Use Wi-Fi instead of cellular data when possible.

Background App Refresh:

Disable background app refresh for apps that don't require constant updates. This can be found in "Settings" > "General" > "Background App Refresh."

Update Apps:

Ensure that all your apps are up to date. Developers often release updates that can include optimizations for better battery performance.

Reset Settings:

You can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This won't delete your data but will reset system settings. Navigate to "Settings" > "General" > "Reset" > "Reset All Settings."

Contact Apple Support:

If the battery health continues to decline rapidly and you're within the warranty period, consider reaching out to Apple Support. They may be able to provide guidance or assess if a replacement battery is needed.

Battery Replacement:

If your iPhone is still under warranty or covered by AppleCare, you may be eligible for a free battery replacement. If not, Apple offers battery replacement services for a fee.

External Factors:

Consider external factors like extreme temperatures, as they can impact battery health. Avoid exposing your iPhone to very hot or very cold environments.

Battery Health Management:

Ensure that the "Optimized Battery Charging" feature is enabled. This feature, found in "Settings" > "Battery" > "Battery Health," helps slow down battery aging.

Remember that over time, battery capacity naturally degrades, but Apple provides tools and services to help mitigate this. If you're still dissatisfied, reaching out to Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store may provide you with personalized assistance and solutions.

I had the same problem! Got my iPhone 14 Pro Max brand new from the apple store on march of last year. Since december I saw the phone had poor battery performance and checked… it was on 86% in less than a year. Called Apple and they said it was because I was charging the iPhone too much (?). Anyways, decided to upgrade my phone today and got the brand new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Let’s see how this one goes!
