The iPhone autocorrect keeps adding extra letters when I text

The auto correct is very frustrating. When I type some thing it adds letters to it which I assume I’m supposed to automatically insert but it adds additional letters which I then have to go back and delete. I don’t like my text second-guessing what I’m trying to write.

I absolutely agree. How is this idiotic feature an “upgrade”? Absolutely unbelievable honestly. And don’t even get me started on the text to speech. My old galaxy five from 12 years ago was far better than my iPhone 14 pro. I just don’t know how with all of their knowledge and skills they can turn out products and stand behind them. It’s just shocking.

Yes I found this post because I have all those issues after the new update it seemed to get even worse. Unusable. I felt I was developing some brain disorder with these random extra letters, inability to delete or correct auto correct. I currently have several random letters appear ahead of the curser (blinking thing) and when pressing space to get to the next word it auto corrects it to something totally insane... I don't even know what I had been trying to write😂 I have stopped writing messages on my phone all together because it's just embarrassing what I end up sending to people at this point...

Mine does that as well, and it is incredibly irritating. It's bad enough when I use the text to speech feature or dictation or whatever they call it, this phone will write down words that phonetically sound exactly like what I just said, but it's not even a word I've ever heard of. Instead of "has" it does "Hass", and capitalizes it. I could go on and on with words this phone makes up but along with the extra letters and this, how is it possible that this company can turn out such a great product like my iPhone 14 Pro that has these issues still? Your after year. I had a Samsung galaxy S4. 2+2. An S4 that had a better dictation program. This thing actually learned your speech pattern and did the law of probability and took a guess as to what word you really meant and 75% of the time it was correct. We are talking about 15 years ago folks.this is ridiculous

This started with iOS17:

Type a word.

Autocorrect corrects it. (good!)

It even adds the space after (good!)

I hit the backspace to make a manual correction

Autocorrect highlights the word and shows me the incorrect word. Then when I hit any key, it deletes the entire word. (Bad!!)

As a writer, I want to be able to manually correct autocorrected words without having the whole word deleted so that I can type accurately and quickly.

Example: Type “pictore”. Autocorrect changes it to “picture”. Great, I am happy. But I meant to make it plural so I backspace to add the “s”. As soon as I add the “s” the whole word disappears.

I am very frustrated -I’m recovering from a stroke and trying to deal with this ridiculous predictive text. The chronic assumptions on which word or spelling i would choose is almost always wrong and has complicated my ability to stay in touch with friends as i recover. Everything i send has to be thoroughly scrutinized before being sent. If not, everyone thinks Ive had another stroke! Definitely NOT an improvement!

Yes, you can turn features off. You can do a lot of things. The point is that Apple is a huge company and this is the best they can do? Really? It's like buying a Lamborghini and the windshield wipers don't work right. Yes there are things you can do but you shouldn't have to fix the windshield wipers on a Lamborghini. You shouldn't have to fix this issue either. Here's one, try dictating with your iPhone. It makes up words that are not even in any language, but they phonetically sound the same as what you need it to type out. It just makes up words. Out of thin air. Hass for has. Lieff for life. Why?

Years ago had a galaxy S4, yes you read correctly an S4 that had a better speech to text program then my iPhone 14 Pro. Explain that? Yeah me either.
