iOS 17 gray call screen

Personally, I have no issue with it and for all you know most iOS 17 users feel the same.

But please let Apple know what you think at the link below:

Assign a Contact Card to All Contacts:

So how many contacts do you have? There may be a way to assign a particular contact-card (fuilly-black, in this case)across all Contacts. Would that suit your needs?

For sure people, make sure you go to the link provided by lobsterghost11, and tell Apple your conserns. I think they should make it so we can add any wallpaper or colour we want, like it is for the home screen or lock screen. As well place the call buttons where ever we want, ie top/ middle or bottom of the screen.

As a product owner, I cannot for the life of me believe that Apple thought this through fully. Moving the End Call button as well as rearranging the Speaker, Mute and keypad button (which I use all 3 multiple times per day!) was not well thought out. Do they even survey users anymore? Do they bother to care what actual users want to see or do they have a development team that is just trying to push features out so that they continue to show that they are working on something? Did they do a BCR on this change? Crazy. Seems they have foresaken users in pursuit of their own ideas and don't mind creating pain points for the vast majority.

Apple, at least give us the option to change the layout back.

The blurring on top is intentional so that photo details do not interfere with the legibility of the time/signal/battery information or other controls at the top of the screen when the poster is displayed due to an incoming call.

Thanks for posting this evan405, I very much agree. Nice to know there are many of us concerned about what has happened to the call screen we rely on so much. Dark Mode should mean Dark Mode - everywhere in the interface. It's not just an aesthetic issue - I find the lack of contrast between the gray background and text makes it very hard to use my phone in daylight, so I have the brightness up all they way which wastes battery. The call screen buttons being rearranged and all crammed together at the bottom of the screen with lots of wasted empty space in the middle is also difficult for me. I used to be able to confidently press the End Call button at the bottom of the screen when on the go. Now I accidentally press other buttons when walking down the sidewalk in bright daylight when meaning to end a call.

LobsterGhost1 - it's not just for a few seconds. It's for as long as the call is active, and it's everywhere, including on the in-call keyboard. At least that's what's happening on my phone. It's also on the Contacts screen. I'm on iOS 17.0.3.

When I speak on the phone, it's up against my ear. And the proximity sensor stops the screen from being on at all. Or, I may be using Bluetooth earbuds, and the screen goes dark and I'm not even looking at the screen. In either case, I don't see the screen, so I'm sticking with my comment it's on the screen briefly as it was designed to be.

I use the phone for business and have headphones. I'm often out in the daylight or in brightly lit areas on business calls, and need to navigate the call screen actively during a call to add additional people to calls, and hope I don't hang up on anyone by mistake because the buttons have also changed positions. I don't hold the phone against my head at all, so proximity sensor is not engaged. Aesthetics aside, it is a serious functional issue for me.

You're making an assumption Apple believes this is an issue? I kind of don't think they think so. And most users are just getting used to the new background color and out using their phones.

As I said, it's just not an issue for me and I have had no issues adjusting to the grey call screen, the new button layout for calls or the grey background for contacts.

Also Lobster, I'm glad this is a non-issue for you, but you likely have better vision than I do. It is very difficult for me to read my display in bright light when a gray background is showing, even with my display brightness turned up all the way. So it's an accessibility issue for me. Dark mode works perfectly for my needs, but I need it to be applied uniformly across the interface.

When you call from your Contact Card, I believe you get the color of the contact wallpaper you may have chosen for yourself. I just called from my Contact Card and got the background color of my Contact Card.
