Face ID stopped working on my iPhone after iOS 17 update

Updated my iPhone 11 to.ios 17.01 last night. Since then, my face id won't work. I get error messages or it says face id not available. I thought I could reset face ID but it's not letting me do that either

. Rebooting the phone didn't help. Everything was working fine until the ios 17 update finished installing.

It is quite a rare issue, it may occurs somtime when the new software crashed on your device. These steps may resolve your issue:

A. Hard Reset

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

B. Reset Face ID by turn off your device passcode and set up Face ID passcode

Settings> Face ID & Passcode> Turn Passcode Off> Set Up Face ID Passcode

C. Connect to Mac and Restore iPhone

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Make sure to back up your phone before restoring it, I hope this instruction will resolve your issue.

It’s been working for me again consistently since my last post. I do have an update waiting to be installed now so we’ll see if it breaks again. The issue I’m having now is whatever app or browser I’m in will randomly close. It seems to only happen when I’m typing something (like I am here) but doesn’t happen all the time. I was replying to an email about 10 minutes ago and just as I was about to type ‘Best Regards’ and send it, outlook closed abruptly. Luckily it saved the draft but I’ve been in other community forums replying to something and it closes and when I go back in, everything I’ve written is gone. Hopefully this update I have pending fixes that!

This issue presents itself in many ways. I initially had a big problem with my iPhone 13, but I was able to resolve most of it. The only remaining annoyance is that the phone requires me to enter my password to continue using Face ID much more often than it used to. In the past it was rare, maybe after a hard reboot, but now it is sometimes a couple of times a day. Requiring a password makes the phone less secure since it happens at random and one never knows who might be looking.

J’ai eu une opératrice à qui j’ai parlé de ce forum.


elle n’a pas cherché à me renvoyer vers un problème hardware. Elle a tenté de faire un diagnostic en se connectant à mon téléphone mais ça a échoué : elle me rappellera demain soir.


elle a évoqué le fait que ça puisse être un problème côté Apple mais dans le certifier.


elle souhaite aller au bout du diagnostic de mon téléphone : nous verrons demain et en lancerons un nouveau


aujourd’hui FaceID a mieux fonctionné mais toujours pas comme il devrait, beaucoup d’échecs.

voila 24H que mon faceID fonctionne sans problème. Je n’ai rien fait de plus j’ai même ma coque et mon verre trempé plein de bulles ….


je soupçonne qu’un calibrage a distance ait pu être fait. Ou en êtes vous de votre côté ? J’ai installé également hier soir la dernière maj dev mais ça fonctionne très bien depuis hier matin.
