Updated my iPhone 11 to.ios 17.01 last night. Since then, my face id won't work. I get error messages or it says face id not available. I thought I could reset face ID but it's not letting me do that either
. Rebooting the phone didn't help. Everything was working fine until the ios 17 update finished installing.

First of all you should try to restart your device( different way ) : go to settings > General > their shutdown, wait for a few minutes then power it on. Make sure your notch area is clean and clear. you said you already reset face id then skip this step. If nothing else works then according to them erase all content from your phone hope this step will fix the issue. For the steps please refer to the guide I mentioned.
This happened to me too. It caused my phone to get stuck in a reboot loop which resulted in me having to buy a new phone! It really ****** me off!

face ID not working
Did these steps, face ID, flashlight, and camera still not working. I HATE this! I called apple support, no help there either.
I was super annoyed because mine stopped working also. I cleaned the camera lenses with glasses cleaner and it started working again...
I updated my iphone 12 to ios 17.2.1 and my face id misbehaves! i have done all resets but it comes back after them and goes away after some time.
Thank you! All I did was remove the cover, cleaned the camera lens, and it worked. And I wear glasses too.
After following this thread for the last month, no solutions worked for me apart from disabling the "Requires Attention" feature. This has now resolved the issue on my iPhone 13 mini.
After the IOS 17 update this morning face recognition stopped working. I have tried many shutdowns and new set up but every time it says my face is not in focus.

Turning off “Require Attention” and cleaning the lens (which was already clean) worked for me
