Face ID stopped working on my iPhone after iOS 17 update

Yeah just restarting did not work for my 12 pro. I just did what another poster suggested—turn off the Face ID, turn off the attention feature and clean your lens. Then redo the Face ID. That was the only hack that worked for me. Good luck!

Other's have said that backing up their iPhone, then restoring it from backup fixed it. It's a nuclear option. But you might want to go there. Otherwise, reach out to Apple directly for help. I've updated and neither phone is having a Face ID issue.

Had the same issue, but combined some of the replies. Went to the bottom of General and turned off for 2 minutes. Then went to Face ID and turned off then on again Face ID to unlock, and then turned off mask option, and turned off and on the Require Attention. Worked so far today 🤞

My iphone12 pro stopped being able to identify me and resetting face id was not working. I got it to reset but then i was still having issues with not recognizing me. I took off my case and it works perfectly and i have no clue why?? my case is not very thick or obstructive of the camera but with no case it works perfectly.

Hello all, I found a fix for this, and rebooting won’t help I tried a couple of times too, after trying everything and it didn’t work. I cleaned my front camera lens, tried again and it worked like magic.

I was super annoyed because mine stopped working also. I cleaned the camera lenses with glasses cleaner and it started working again...

It seems to be a front camera focus issue...I opened up the camera app and moved between the front and back cameras zooming then in and out. Currently it's has fixed the problem going on two days now.

So was having this same problem. My phone wasn’t recognizing my face and was not prompting me for passcode consistently —was locking me out saying stolen device protection was on. Cleaned cameras. Restarted phone various ways. Nothing was working. Couldn’t reset my Face ID because it was just trying to recognize my face and wouldn’t prompt me for passcode. Then pressed “change my passcode.” All the sudden recognized my face. Even though I got a notification that security delay was starting and I haven’t actually been able to reset or change anything yet. Seems to be working across the board again. For some reason, whatever glitch there was seems to be solved. I think it has something to do with the security delay setting going on because I am out of town and this is the first time I’ve seen that setting be enabled and when the current problem started. Anyway, attempting to reset passcode worked for whatever reason and all seems to be working right.

I think I have a solution for some of you. Same thing started with my wife’s phone a month ago. I also changed her screen protector so I was thinking maybe that’s an issue, so I took it off and it worked just fine. Put another screen protector on and it’s all good now. Good luck

So not sure if this answer came up- but when I turned off my location services my facial id stopped working. But the moment I turned it back on- it allowed me to reset my facial id and now I’m back in business.

I had that same issue until I cleaned the front camera area thoroughly, and then it immediately recognized me

Update: I deleted my Facial ID setup and attempted to reset and that took an hour. Is it working? For now.

Camera lens wipe did it for me. I had wiped the lens several times before but the process of wiping it and then immediately trying for some reason seemed to work

I cleaned the lens and it worked immediately.
