AirPods not connecting to iPhone after updating to iOS 17

Hi all, I’ve been following this post hoping to get a solution. I recently moved to another city which has official Apple Store so I took my time to let them check my AirPods Pro 2, since it still has warranty. They have checked and said it’s a fake one which I’m so disappointed. It’s a big lesson for me to learn to not buy any Apple products from anywhere else except Apple Store itself. It functioned so well before iOS 17. I was happy about it. Noise cancelling, mics all worked well till iOS 17 came and killed it. Latest sonoma blocks it as well. Apparently they can multiply so many fake ones using one legit serial number. If you got it secondhand from someone else, I advise you to get it checked. If you got the original ones and still facing the problem, I can’t help you 😅

I restarted my phone after completely unpairing my AirPods. I then paired my AirPods again and they connected.

I used the message option with Apple support and mine are now working after 3 weeks of them not working at all or one earbud working. Have you tried the factory reset instructions yet? That fixed mine 🙂

<edit: the "reply" button is a lie, threading here sucks> resetting my AirPods usually works, but faster and more reliable is to power cycle the phone, which I have to do pretty much every day.

Then they work all day, switching to iPad, switching to my work iPhone, everything is groovy...until tomorrow morning and my iPhone is like "duh what AirPods?"

AirPods Pro 2 bought pretty much on launch day. iPhone 14.

Same problem since the initial update to iOS 17. Shows connected but no sounds through iPods Pro. Have to take them out of my ears, return them to the case and close it. Reopen case and put in my ears and then they work.

I am having the same issue with AirPods 3 and AirPods pro. Initially audio was going out of device even though AirPods 3 was connected and in my ear. I tried everything without success. Decided to forget and reconnect after a hard reset of airpods, and now AirPods will connect to my iPhone or iPad. Connects to my MacBook Pro no issues and worlds as expected.

This started after an upgrade to IOS 17.2 on iPhone and iPad. The common denominator to both devices with the issue with the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro.

Now the AirPods startet to work again. I tried to connect it several times in the last weeks. Sometimes the right Airpod connected. The left one did not charge. Then I did nothing and let the case with inserted AirPods charging with the lightning cable for a week or so. In the meantime I updated my iPhone to 17.2.

Days later I tried again to connect and it connected. The left AirPod was fully charged. The AirPods updated to Version 6A317.

this worked for me, thanks! (turning off then on bluetooth) to re-pair my Apple Airpods pro after the ios 17 upgrade. Earlier I tried re-parining, removing my airpods from my iphone during the Airpod pro reset.. nothing worked until i turned off and on bluetooth

I had to try several times. It’s just as annoying as the root problem. Make sure you put the AirPods in to the case & close it for approx 30 seconds before trying to add them again.

Same here, I tried it on two devices, one iPhone 12 Pro Max and one iPhone 15 Pro, both updated to iOS17. They do not connect with either of my AirPods Pro (2nd gen) and my friend's AirPods (3rd gen). However, they manage to pair with an iPad Pro M1 that runs on iPadOS 16.6.1 and an iPhone 13 that runs on iOS 16.6. There is a slight imbalance on the sound, though, and the noise cancellation is sort of weak. One more strange issue is, that the AirPods' firmwares are not updating.

OK I just confirmed it’s the iOS 17.0.3. issue that’s not allowing me to connect my airpods pro 2. Tried to connect those to my colleague’s iPhone that wasn’t updated and airpods connected instantly. Fix this ASAP, Apple!

This isn't just an iOS 17 issue but also an issue on macOS 14.1 Sonoma. I have the very same issue on my M2 Max 16" MacBook Pro. I can connect them but they constantly loose connection and connect to either my iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 17.1 or my 2019 iMac on macOS 14.1 Sonoma. My AirPods Pro (A2084) is running version 6A300 firmware. There is a serious issue with AirPods and macOS 14.1 AND iOS 17.1. Apple will most likely do what they have been doing for the past year. Ignore it as they think their products are perfect.

I'm having the same issue with my 2nd Gen 6A300 on my iPhone 11. I went through this long list of various resets and nothing works.

The pods connect and I can see the music playing but there is no sound. I have tired every button and reset idea I could find online and they still won't work. I have also disconnected all other devices that could be interfering, and nothing works.

I just updated the latest urgent security update hoping it would correct the issue and it has not.

Help us out Apple, we need a bug fix.

I have the same issue. In the past removing the device from find my and reconnecting fixed it but not in this case… I think they need a firmware update so I’ll charge my 3th gen AirPods and iPhone 13 Pro at the same time tonight. that most of the time triggers the update for the AirPods in my experience. I’ll update if it helps

Okay update…. I figured that my AirPods keep playing music even if they are outside my ears. The whole ear detection is broken. The reason why my right AirPod won’t work is that if my left one starts charging in the case the right one also thinks it’s charging…. I know I have good ears but I am quite surprised they can charge my AirPods LOL…. Jokes aside… this is clearly a software issue apple has to resolve
