AirPods not connecting to iPhone after updating to iOS 17

Has anyone had an issue with their AirPods not connecting to their phone after iOS 17 update? My AirPods Pro (1st gen) will not connect to my iPhone 13 Pro Max. When placed in the ears the notification sound to say they’re connected does not happen. Occasionally I get an “AirPods connected” message on my phone, but when I try to play music the sound comes out of my phone, not the AirPods.

I can fix the issue temporarily by forgetting the AirPods device on my phone, then reconnecting them. The sounds come through the AirPods, but when I stop playing music, dock the AirPods to the case and come back to use them later, the issue reappears.

any advice on how to fix would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I have this issue also. My problem goes even further though as I removed the AirPods Pro from Bluetooth and now my phone will not recognize them at all. I’ve tried every possible way and no matter what my phone just doesn’t recognize them. Everything is updated and everything has a full charge.

I have been having trouble connecting AirPods Pro to my iPhone 15. The workaround I have discovered is - that if the Bluetooth connection is not successful - open settings - Bluetooth and move to Bluetooth slider to off. Then after a few seconds turn it back on - AirPods connect. Hoping for an update to ios soon so this wont be necessary

I chatted with apple support and they had me do this. it fixed it for a bit, but not permanently How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support.

I still have to reconnect them sometimes but it seems to work more reliably than not. I wouldnt call this a full fix, but might be worth trying for you.

I find that after this I still the the connect card asking me to pair, but if i put the airpods in my ear before I hit the connect button they generally seem to work.

Don’t know what the actual solution is but this is what seemed to work for me.

This happened to me back in September. I updated my iPhone 13 Pro and suddenly my AirPods Pro quit working. I tried every solution Apple had and nothing worked so as a last resort I did what everyone else does and did the “Forget This Device “. Before I did the update my phone said my AirPods were fully charged and after the update it said they were dead. That’s when they quit connecting. After about an hour of trying to reconnect I gave up and plugged the phone and AirPods in and left them to charge. After about an hour the eventually reconnected and miraculously the AirPods had a full charge. My AirPods batteries are never dead so I believe it has something to do with the update recognizing the charge status incorrectly. Make sure you follow the connection steps word for word after everything has a full charge. I hope this helps and I hope it works for you!

Same problem! iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.5.1. Sometimes connects but not sound.

So I thought about using my iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 16.2 and you know what works perfectly! In the second photo, screen from my iPhone 15 Pro Max. No data AirPods. The first photo, screen from my iPhone 13 Pro Max, magically, all data from the Airpods. Apple we all need an answer! iOS 17 is the Real Problem! We need a solution! Thanks

I have had the Airpods Pro (1st generation) since the day they were released. In 2022 the connection was very slow and made some noise, which I later discovered was covered by a warranty that Apple made an exception to and I received new Airpods Pro. Since then they have worked perfectly, even after a few drops. After the IOS 17 update, it stopped working at all. The box doesn't emit light, the headphones don't charge inside the box, the connection sound with the iPhone doesn't make, the music plays on the phone and only a few seconds later does it play on the Airpods. Anyway, I've already called Apple Technical Support and the only solution they give me is always paying for an repair. I won't do it and this shows Apple's hypocrisy. Money is what Apple wants, but I won't do it, I know this was not a problem caused by me but by Apple in order to get more money. An outburst from a consumer with little money 🫤
