AirPods not connecting to iPhone after updating to iOS 17

Has anyone had an issue with their AirPods not connecting to their phone after iOS 17 update? My AirPods Pro (1st gen) will not connect to my iPhone 13 Pro Max. When placed in the ears the notification sound to say they’re connected does not happen. Occasionally I get an “AirPods connected” message on my phone, but when I try to play music the sound comes out of my phone, not the AirPods.

I can fix the issue temporarily by forgetting the AirPods device on my phone, then reconnecting them. The sounds come through the AirPods, but when I stop playing music, dock the AirPods to the case and come back to use them later, the issue reappears.

any advice on how to fix would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I have this issue also. My problem goes even further though as I removed the AirPods Pro from Bluetooth and now my phone will not recognize them at all. I’ve tried every possible way and no matter what my phone just doesn’t recognize them. Everything is updated and everything has a full charge.

Okay update…. I figured that my AirPods keep playing music even if they are outside my ears. The whole ear detection is broken. The reason why my right AirPod won’t work is that if my left one starts charging in the case the right one also thinks it’s charging…. I know I have good ears but I am quite surprised they can charge my AirPods LOL…. Jokes aside… this is clearly a software issue apple has to resolve

Yes since ios17 AirPods are weird now, all sorts of issues that never happened before

eg taking them out of the ear, the media used to stop. but now it keeps playing on the phone speaker

it doesn’t automatically pair when you put them in your ear.

You have to go to settings each time.

ive tried with two iPhones and two AirPods.

and I’ve re synced them.

this has got to be an issue on apples end

Me too. When I ask Siri to make a call, she doesn’t do it from my Powerbeats Pro anymore it goes to my phone even when I add it in the verbal command, even worse is physically when I choose my Powerbeats on the screen the call still won’t route through correctly.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled them. Music works, nothing else.

for me, it's on both the latest iOS and Mac OS. Bluetooth is kind of useless.

On iOS; it has a bunch of problems like showing as connected but not connected actually, and even when it's connected, during the Facetime call mic stops working. so I have to stop the Facetime call and call again. also keeps disconnecting during the calls or when watching videos.

On Mac OS; again bluetooth is a mess. while using either airpods pro 2 that I have or any Bluetooth headphones, it keeps cutting connection btw the devices. it even cuts the connection when skipping the video stream and causes a few seconds of lag when trying to play a video or any streaming.

long story short, it's all a big mass right now. I hope you guys fix this as soon as you can.

For me so far it's been more minor connection issues with my AirPods Pro 2nd Gen (w/lightning) and my iPhone running iOS17 HOWEVER trying to keep them connected to my Apple TV (Newest Gen) has been nearly impossible. It's super frustrating because this is the only way I can watch TV at an enjoyable volume level after my daughter is asleep 🥴. I've been checking almost daily for OS17 updates and AirPods firmware updates 😩. Has anyone seen where apple has acknowledged this issue?

guys i am worried cause my airpods before 17 ios were ok charging ok everything good, but after i installed 17 and updates that came along whenever i pair to my iphone it says for example 61% case than drops to 0 and it stays like that. And while its charging my airpods continue to charge but when i unplug from the carger, and open again it still the same problem but this time battery drains on my airpods
