AirPods not connecting to iPhone after updating to iOS 17

Has anyone had an issue with their AirPods not connecting to their phone after iOS 17 update? My AirPods Pro (1st gen) will not connect to my iPhone 13 Pro Max. When placed in the ears the notification sound to say they’re connected does not happen. Occasionally I get an “AirPods connected” message on my phone, but when I try to play music the sound comes out of my phone, not the AirPods.

I can fix the issue temporarily by forgetting the AirPods device on my phone, then reconnecting them. The sounds come through the AirPods, but when I stop playing music, dock the AirPods to the case and come back to use them later, the issue reappears.

any advice on how to fix would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I have this issue also. My problem goes even further though as I removed the AirPods Pro from Bluetooth and now my phone will not recognize them at all. I’ve tried every possible way and no matter what my phone just doesn’t recognize them. Everything is updated and everything has a full charge.

Last night I tried all of the suggestions given by Apple Support without success –– the final one being to remove the AirPods from the list of devices on my Apple ID and attempt to reinstall them. None of these worked until just now. The new set up worked with my iPhone 14 and iPad 10, but not with my MacBook Pro. Oddly, the AirPods do not appear in my list of devices despite the successful connection.

UPDATE !

The AirPods have connected to my MacBook Pro. Don't know what the magic was. Maybe removing them from the Apple ID devices and reinstalling?

I’ve had issues since iOS 17 came out but didn’t make the connection until today. My Beats Flex will not connect to one of our TVs (both Samsung and same model line) they will connect to the 75” tv, but will not connect to the 65” tv. Prior to iOS 17 no connection issues at all. My Powerbeats Pro’s connect but the ear detection and pause buttons have not worked since iOS 17 originally released, only the volume buttons work.

Hi Everyone, I too am experiencing quite a few issues with

my AirPods as of the most recent iOS 17 updates; issues I never had before

this. My Airpods will: (1) while listening to music, all of a sudden disconnect

and then re-connect all on their own (2) the case will no longer hold a full charge

overnight (even though the case and pods have a full 100% charge) (3) will disconnect

all on their own while on a phone call; which I then need to manually go in and

re-connect them (4) and will quite often, not connect to my phone when I pull them

out of the case and place them in my ears. I’ve tried all the recommendations

on Apple’s website, have submitted quite a few chat calls and most recently was

told that I can either make an appointment at an Apple store to have them checked

out, or mail them in directly to Apple for inspection. These Airpods are only

about 13 months old and before the updates, they were working optimally. I

really hope some initiative is taken here to resole this for all of us!

I am having the same issue with AirPods 3 and AirPods pro. Initially audio was going out of device even though AirPods 3 was connected and in my ear. I tried everything without success. Decided to forget and reconnect after a hard reset of airpods, and now AirPods will connect to my iPhone or iPad. Connects to my MacBook Pro no issues and worlds as expected.

iPhone XR - IOS 17.2

iPad Pro (11-inch) - iPad OS 17.2

MacBook Pro 13-inch 2017, Mac OS Ventura version 13.6.1

This started after an upgrade to IOS 17.2 on iPhone and iPad. The common denominator to both devices with the issue with the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro.

I have the same problem. No "bonk" sound when I put on my Airpods Max. I tried restarting and resetting everything, forgot them and re-paired (which was really hard)--nothing worked. I noticed that in the Max settings on my phone, if I press "Noise Cancellation" it will not go there, it says it only works if they are on my head. I put them on my head and they tell me the same thing. So, I think that's the problem--they can no longer tell if they are on my head or not. Since there were recent updates to IOS and the Airpods, it does seem likely that could be the problem. In any case, for now, mine are bricks.

I’ve had the same issue with my older Apple 11. I recently upgraded it to 17.2.1 as 17.3 wasn’t listed in updates - my air pods connected to my Apple 11 before updating with 17.2.1 with no issues but they will not connect after the update as the air pods are not listed under Bluetooth anymore - no matter how many times I have toggled it on/off/on and I have tried rebooting the phone numerous times?

I only use the Apple 11 when I visit friends and relatives in Australia as my US purchased (not on contract unblocked sim Apple 13 would not accept an AUD SIM card nor download an eSIM - recording said it was not compatible, this is my second issue it may be due to the upgrade to 17.2.1 as I updated it as soon as it would connect to Wi-Fi.

My US carrier said it should allow the Australian sim to be used - they want to charge $10 per day to use their international roaming feature thanks but no thanks when I can buy a 5gb sim for $17 per month. My US purchased Apple 13 was also upgraded to 17.2.1 as well as my 12.9 iPad Pro both work fine with my air pods after upgrading to 17.2.1 (17.3 is not listed in updates when I checked)

What help can you provide other than going to an Apple Store or waiting on the phone for 2-3 hours for a real person/tech to answer???!?!
