Apple Watch Ultra 2 VERY dim inside and dark enviroments..

Hello.

I just bought a very expensive Ultra 2 Watch. I am happy with the watch overall, but what totally ruins the experience is it is SO dim inside and in dark enviroments! I can hardly read it. There is no override available and the brightness is set to full. My son has a Series 6 and that is brighter in the same conditions. This cant be real? This so called "ULTRA" is more weak in brightness performance than an older regular Apple Watch. If there is something I HATE it is factory controlled auto stuff like this! We know the watch can be brighter so WHY on earth is it locked to a weak sensor that is WAY to low calibrated? I know its unfortunately not a hardware issue as ALL other Ultra Watch suffer from this ridicolous factory setting. Why can I not disable this auto dim or at least raise the lower minimum brightness. This is a disaster, as I can hardly read the watch in my office and living room where we have low light usually. This is almost a RETURN ISSUE for me! The fact that the user cannot set this setting when I bought and paid for the watch is a disgrace! And for those that reply its working as intended I can see by a search that hundreds of other users complain about this "error". This HAS to be corrected in a software update ASAP!

Just received my Apple Watch Ultra 2 today and loved it until nighttime. I cannot read my text messages at all because it’s so dim and the brightness feature does not do much. Please re-calibrate!!! This is unacceptable for a Watch at this price.

Also a riddle to me! Some dude calibrated the watch in daylight and thinks this works for all! On the phone the user has full control which it of course should be! I always turn off auto brightness and the ugly true tone. On the watch no! some fixed control a engineer in daylight calibrated which then is unreadable and UN-configrable ... its a mess and certainly a low standard for Apple. I dont even think they bother fixing it at this point.... we all got screwed once again..

Utterly ridiculous to have to do that. By the way… It doesn’t stay bright. It steadily gets dimmer even as you look at whatever is on the screen. If you have to ho to that trouble, you may as well check your phone. The whole point of having a smart watch with notifications is so that you can quickly GLANCE at it without fuss. No one should have to blast it with bright light just to see whats there.

hello

we have the same discussion going on, in a german forum for so series 9 which has

the same problem. The watch is just to dimm in the dark.

It scares me that apple sends out these warnings to you.

I did not return my watch because i hoped for a software fix,

but now i looks like apple will hide this problem.

Is there an ofticial statement from apple were they acknowledging the problem yet?

No, there is no fix- other than a potential one from Apple. Its exciting to see if they at all wants to do anything about all these customers buying their premium product which has failed OR they simply say we don't care.... Just consume and buy next model... who knows?! I beginning to think the latter- as they haven't even acknowledged the problem. Personally this has deep dents and impact in my buying from Apple ever again. And I have been a loyal customer for many many year. Since iPhone 3G.

I visited my local Apple Store on Saturday. They are aware. I called Apple Support on Sunday. They are aware. The rep I spoke to at Apple Support last night stated that there are multiple reports about this issue and the reports/concerns are then passed on to the apple watch Engineering team.

Let's hope a future software watchOS update will address this major concern!

Thankyou, this is a great idea. I also have a fix if anyone is interested. However it may not work for everyone.

I wear my Ultra on my left hand and my S4 on my right hand when I need to read something on my Ultra watch, I simply swiped up, activate the torch on my S4, then shine it on the Ultra and then the Ultra 2 brightens up for a few seconds. It’s been working pretty well.

any other recommendations more then welcome!

The torch trick is not a fix. That’s a PITA means of eeking out usability. Try that while bike riding, jogging in the morning dark, driving, etc. In those activities, the several seconds you spend doing what should be only a 1/4 second glance can mean accidents, crashes and tripping.

Apple needs to speak up and immediately fix this before someone actually gets hurt while trying to see this “sports watch.”
