Apple Watch Ultra 2 VERY dim inside and dark enviroments..

Hello.

I just bought a very expensive Ultra 2 Watch. I am happy with the watch overall, but what totally ruins the experience is it is SO dim inside and in dark enviroments! I can hardly read it. There is no override available and the brightness is set to full. My son has a Series 6 and that is brighter in the same conditions. This cant be real? This so called "ULTRA" is more weak in brightness performance than an older regular Apple Watch. If there is something I HATE it is factory controlled auto stuff like this! We know the watch can be brighter so WHY on earth is it locked to a weak sensor that is WAY to low calibrated? I know its unfortunately not a hardware issue as ALL other Ultra Watch suffer from this ridicolous factory setting. Why can I not disable this auto dim or at least raise the lower minimum brightness. This is a disaster, as I can hardly read the watch in my office and living room where we have low light usually. This is almost a RETURN ISSUE for me! The fact that the user cannot set this setting when I bought and paid for the watch is a disgrace! And for those that reply its working as intended I can see by a search that hundreds of other users complain about this "error". This HAS to be corrected in a software update ASAP!

Just received my Apple Watch Ultra 2 today and loved it until nighttime. I cannot read my text messages at all because it’s so dim and the brightness feature does not do much. Please re-calibrate!!! This is unacceptable for a Watch at this price.

Almost 30 months and nearly 1000 comments/replies, and one would think we would have a fix. The watch os 10.2 update goes from 1 nit to maybe 10? Still not a fix by any means. Where is our dial to adjust brightness that we have had since the original apple watch? Every single other apple product allows users to adjust brightness, and that includes iphone and ipad, both of which run on batteries. Don't tell me it must be plugged in for this. There has to be a better solution. Maybe Apple is just waiting for X number of apple watch returns before issuing a "fix" (like a car manufacturer recall)...?

So here’s a twist. I warned my daughter not to buy a S9 model due to the dim screen issue, but she really needed a new watch as she was on S2 still. I went with her to the Apple Store and asked the sales person about the dimming issue and she said it only affects a few watches. I told her I had to return my U2 because I couldn’t read it at night. She said she has a S9 and it was fine. So my daughter bought one and low and behold it’s fine at night! So weird and I can’t explain it. Perhaps there is a bad batch out there and you need to return it for a new one? IDK what the solution is, but hers is fine and I can’t explain it. As for me, I’m not going to chance it again until I hear it’s been resolved. My S4 still works fine for now.

I think you're onto something here. I noticed that when I got mine, it was dim as everyone's describing here. And for no apparent reason, all the sudden, it started working, it's not as bright in dark as it is during the day, but that's OK. I can still read most of it. I would like a little bit more about wait and see what happens. So I don't believe that every U2 is dim. Unfortunately, Apple has not recognized this and offered a solution for those who held onto their U2 without returning them. I don't know if it was early adopters that ran into this. I got mine pretty early on. That does not bring solace to all of those of you. They're sitting there with watches you can't read, however, unfortunately.

I just checked and yes, it is running 10.2. I just compared it to my S4 and it seems to be about the same brightness as mine in the dark. I’m not sure what to make of that other than hers is fine. Software vs. hardware? Hers is the 41mm size if that makes a difference. It sure looks nothing like the dim screen on my U2 which was unusable. I can actually see her Snoopy watch face from across the room. I’m still not repurchasing an Ultra 2 again until I hear everyone’s is working with a bright screen at night.

What do you mean- "So far so good?"... That the update just was successful? I dont see any improvement still sadly... I never think the auto dim option will be available- but I am truly stunned that Apple apparently don´t care about this dim issue. No matter how you wrap your head around it- it is ONLY logic to address it asap and make the users happy- not to mention many can not at all read the text and information. You should assume it was highest priority. Also because the fix is VERY simple to implement. Its not like you have to write thousands of lines of code. Just raise the brightness?! I really dont get these companies!

My Ultra 2 was dim too. From the Watch app on my iPhone, Display and Brightness, Turn off “Always On”. Your watch face will be black when your arm is down, but now your watch will adjust for the lighting conditions when you raise your wrist.

I have now turn the “Always On’ back on and so far my watch is still adjusting the brightness as it is supposed to.

Hello everyone,

I think I may have some good news to report. I am the proud owner of a brand new Apple watch ultra 2, that I literally just got in the mail today. As I was configuring it, I set the brightness to max, as I also was interested in the higher brightness screen than other models. However, as many of you reported, I noticed that in my dim entertainment center room, I was almost completely unable to see the screen. After hours of messing with settings and reading up on forums, I lost all hope that it was a software bug that apple was supposedly aware of, and that it needed to be fixed in a future update. Much to my surprise, as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed a software update was available, 10.2 (21S364). I did the update, and did some testing. I went into a completely dark room, and raised the watch to my face, and to my surprise, I personally feel that the screen is a bit brighter now than it was before. If anyone else has this same experience, than apple may have listened to us. I did not check the patch notes to see if this was a fix mentioned in them. My background is, I had terrible eyesight my entire life, and had Lasik in 2011 in both eyes, so I am very sensitive to things being dim or blurry still, and I prefer all of my screens at near maximum brightness. Sorry for the long post, figured I'd report on this as it is my personal experience and it may help others install this update for a possible fix. I hope I'm not imagining this all and it truly is a fix for you all. Take care

I have had 2 of them of the Ultras now via Costco. The brightness issue pathetic. For the price we are paying we need to control the brightness!! For me personally I need it. The watch is useless at night or in low light and I have several kids with young eyes that agree. This will go back until Apple gets off of dead center and gives us full night brightness control our selves. Day brightness is what I need at night and should be my choice. Has anyone heard if they will fix it??

They are because the brightness is trash, I just hope with oled burn-in eventually it doesn't become so dim in the coming year or two that you can barely see.

And me posting the comparison on AW4 and Ultra 2 got taken down by Apple Because they don't want people to see it.

Obviously they could easily fix it by allowing the adjustment of the brightness just the way we want to. At least this I would easily give up 50% of my battery for more brightness if I had to, that's how important it is.
