VIP Mail Folder missing on iPhone after iOS 17 Update

I deleted the mail app, then reinstalled by going to the App Store and searching for “Mail”, it was second from top. After reinstalling, I went into Settings > Mail > Accounts, and for each of the accounts (I have 10!) I had to go in and flip the switch to “on” for Mail. After that I went into the Mail app, it started downloading all my email again and now I only have VIP in the VIP folder now.

Note: to re-enable iCloud email it’s slightly different… when you tap on it from the list of accounts, it takes you to the Apple ID screen. From there you go to iCloud > iCloud Mail > Use on this iPhone/iPad.

Also: prior to this I tried updating to the latest iOS and I tried removing just my Gmail account as others had suggested. Neither of those fixed the issue for me. Doing it this way reinstalling the mail app kept me from having to set up all my accounts from scratch. You just have to flip the switches back to the on position in the settings page and you’re set!

I just did this a few minutes ago. I did not have to delete the Mail app. Instead, I went into iPhone Settings > Mail > Accounts. From that list, I tapped into any accounts experiencing the VIP issue (for me, it was only my Gmail) and tapped Delete Account. After that deleted, I immediately tapped Add Account at bottom and added my Gmail. Now, VIP is working correctly. (Note that I also completely closed and reopened the Mail app too, but unsure if that was necessary.)

to solve this issue I did the most recent update on my phone, next I deleted all email accounts from my phone then check the VIP folder, I didn't delete my iCloud email account, I then deleted all the emails that remained in my VIP folder from my iCloud account, and re-installed all of my email accounts and now my VIP folder is working again.

I have an iphone 12 pro max

I can confirm this works. The update to iOS 17.1 alone does not fix the problem. Steps to fix

1. Updated to iOS to 17.1
2. Remove all mailboxes
3. Re-add all mailboxes
4. VIP shows correctly (I did not remove any VIP ahead of time)

I was having the same issue on my iPhone and iPad. I deleted my mail account (Gmail) and then re-added the account to each device. When it re-populated, the VIP folder was working correctly again. I hope this helps you, too.

Just wanted to let everyone know that removing (deleting) and readding my Gmail account fixed the issue for me. I also have iCloud, Yahoo, and Outlook but didn’t have to touch those. It was just the Gmail. If you haven’t tried this, do it. Then you have to close the Mail app and maybe even restart the iPhone before you notice it’s fixed.

I had the same issue All email was in VIP when it should be only 1 address.

As suggested someone here, I deleted gmail, restarted phone and added back account and it was fixed I need to remember to check here first because Apple support had no clue and told me to see if it "fixed itself" overnight

I updated to iOS 17.1, then I went into settings & un toggled my mail accounts. Then I deleted & reinstalled the mail app. Opened mail app (should be no accounts).

Went back in settings & toggled my accounts back one by one.

This has fixed my problem

After upgrading to 17.1, remove your email accounts (all of them), then add them back. The issue is then fixed.

Removing/adding contacts to VIP also works as expected.

Toggling off and on email worked for me. I have six email accounts and I just toggle them off including iCloud and switch them all back on. Everything worked perfectly.

I upgraded to IOS 17.0.3 and I now have the same problem! It was working fine prior to the upgrade and never had that issue before.

I have several mail accounts in my phone. I removed Gmail and then added it back, and now Gmail e-mails don't show up in VIP. I then removed other accounts as well (the ones that showed up in VIP) and added them back. Looks like this fixes it.

I did the latest update then I reinstalled my five other email accounts and everything seem to work out. Perfect. Nothing in my VIP that’s not supposed to be there. And now is also back to suggesting email locations. I hope your situation gets resolved.

The update today iOS 17.1 fixed everything no more problems with my VIP or My6 other emails.

Toggling off e-mail doesn't work. You need to REMOVE (delete) the email accounts entirely, then add them back.
