iPhone 15 Pro Max Wi-Fi Issues

I Hope apple or others can help me out - I’m having issues with WiFi on the IPhone 15 Pro Max

myself and others are having issues with using WiFi and 160hz - many have raised issues on Reddit posts - some cannot connect to there WiFi at all and others can connect like myself but have random issues with no internet from time to time

Mines working on 5GHz 160hz, but sometimes I’ll just have no internet connection (it’s still connected to the WiFi) - I have to disconnect from the WiFi and connect again for it to work.

I’m using ASUS RT-AX82U - 5GHz allowed Upto 160hz - I’m running 1gig internet so last thing I want to do is try running at 80hz as I’ll loose speed

When it does work it works great 😊

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP APPLE

2.4 band works fine as a stop gap. Not ideal solution but it has been stable for over 24 hours.

I engaged support again today and finally got someone to acknowledge that this is a known, systematic issue and that they are working on a fix. There was, of course, no ETA or indication of how the fix will be issued.

From support chat:

We are further investigating this and please do rest assure that we are all working and looking for a best possible solution.

I understand this is not the outcome you would prefer, I got your back! I’ll document here all the things we have done and make sure this will be heard and taken care of. So that our Apple Engineer might review our case and use this for future reference to prevent your concern to continue to happen. Okay?

A few notes that I have figured out here. First, many things you try at first seem like a fix, but the problem comes back, (restarting, disconnecting/reconnecting wifi, reset network settings etc). What I have researched and found to work is this. On my Asus AX88U running latest Merlin firmware, 2 things solved the issue.... 1) uncheck box to for 160hz. 2) Leave 160hz checked, but use the pull down and select only 160hz as the option. Right now Im doing the latter for maximum performance, but if I run into compat issues elsewhere I will go with the former. This looks like a software bug to me and an annoying one at that. For the record, Im also running latest iOS d3v release , and this issue is still present.

If the router is running its latest firmware and there are tons of devices connected to it successfully, including Apple ones running their latest iOS, all working flawlessly and then the iPhone 15p Pro Max is the only device that doesn’t work with the router… What’s the issue then? These are the basics most people will encounter and nobody cares about these technicalities after dropping over $1,000 on a phone that doesn’t connect to their WiFi. You can twist this any way you want, it’s an iPhone 15 Pro Max issue, period.

I’ve been doing some more digging and it seems to be only happening on networks pushing out 5GHz and broadcasting all 20/40/80/160hz ranges at same time

if I set it to broadcast 5GHz and 160Hz only I have no issues at all - i can come out of range of the WiFi and once back in range I have internet access

If I set 5GHz broadcast to 20/40/80hz only I get no issues at all - i can come out of range of the WiFi and once back in range I have internet access

if I set 5GHz broadcast to 20/40/80/160hz I loose internet connection on the iPhone until I disconnect from the ssid and connect again - one the ways I figured this out was leaving the house and coming back in - every time i rejoined I have no internet connection, Not until I disconnected from ssid and joined again - once I done this it was fine again until I went out of range and then came back in.

in the meantime I have setup a 2nd wifi router just to use for my iPhone so I can still have 20/40/80/160hz for the rest of my network

Just FYI, I’m using a Asus RT-AX82U router as my main router 5GHz (20/40/80/160hz)

2nd router I’m using just for the iPhone 15 pro max is an EERO 6 - using 2.4Ghz (20/40hz) & 5Ghz (20/40/80hz) since doing this device is working great on WiFi

I also don’t think it’s iOS 17 related and my IPhone 13 Pro Max was using the WiFi fine on iOS 17

I’ve just done a test and turned off Smart Control and split my SSID to 2.4GHz and 5GHz

my 5GHz is running 20/40/80/160hz - and it seems to be running stable now

so there seems to be a conflict in the phones hardware on working with Smart Control SSID that also broadcast 160Hz

UPDATE

Apple have reached out to me and the apple care team have been working directly with myself on diagnosing the problem (apple wifi diagnostic profiles) had been installed to my phone and logs have been collected.

Time stamps and additional information on wifi hardware and so on have been taken

These are now being passed onto the engineers to look into and see if whats been collected in the logs will help resolve the issue, If not apple will reach out to me again to run further diagnostics.

Apple said if the logs have what they need to implement a fix this will be released in an update (this could be the next update or the one after that) - Apple wont update me on this unless they need further diagnostic testing

So i would advise to see what ios updates are released in the meantime and keep testing your connection"

Tried this before, just tired it again - removing vpn makes no difference for me

Only think that works for me is splitting the SSID so 2.4 and 5 have there own ssid (I can then leave 160hz on)

but this really isn’t an option for me

so in the meantime I’m still using a 2nd router just for the iPhone to use that doesn’t broadcast 160hz

It’s definitely the iPhone 15 pro models, I’m using a ASUS router and can only get the phone to work under certain scenarios.

Apple are actively looking into this and will be working on an update to fix the issue once they identify what’s causing the issue.
