iPhone 15 Pro Max Wi-Fi Issues

I Hope apple or others can help me out - I’m having issues with WiFi on the IPhone 15 Pro Max

myself and others are having issues with using WiFi and 160hz - many have raised issues on Reddit posts - some cannot connect to there WiFi at all and others can connect like myself but have random issues with no internet from time to time

Mines working on 5GHz 160hz, but sometimes I’ll just have no internet connection (it’s still connected to the WiFi) - I have to disconnect from the WiFi and connect again for it to work.

I’m using ASUS RT-AX82U - 5GHz allowed Upto 160hz - I’m running 1gig internet so last thing I want to do is try running at 80hz as I’ll loose speed

When it does work it works great 😊

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP APPLE

I've got a fix!!! This was frustrating me to no end. Went to Apple store and talked with one of the experienced techs. He said the issue is the iPhone when you import from an old iPhone imports non-ideal network settings, not just your old iPhone passwords. Fix is below.

Network -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset Network Settings

Wifi has been working like a charm since I did this. Read about this for hours and never saw this suggested anywhere else so figured I'd contribute.

As a follow-up to my previous post, I decided to RESET NETWORK SETTINGS, and the WIFI issues have vanished. It is now 24 hours later, and WIFI is still working. I've read that didn't work for some people, but thus far it has worked for me. Should that change, however, I will of course report back in this discussion thread.

I had this same issue when trying to set up my new Iphone 15pro from my old iphone. Basically after hours of troubleshotting we figured out that the issue was one VPN app installed on my old device which was blocking network connection when I trying to install in the new phone. Try to look at your app library in the new phone and delete any VPN apps or some that may have this capability like Google One. Also look under settings if your phone says connecting to VPN.

I think I’m close to figuring it out, it dropped again, and I dug into the logs from my router and I can see it going through a channel change, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max does not properly acknowledge that change and transition to the new channel. It just loses the connection entirely. I’ve had it happen on times where there are no channel change, so I’m starting to think that there is something wrong with the phones that they are not able to properly handle steering requests in general. So having channels set to auto and/or having a multi-band setup will likely cause this issue. I’d be curious to see if anybody is having an issue where those conditions are not met, meaning you have a static channel and only one 5GHz band.

All, I’ve just had this issue resolved at an Apple Store. Turns out you need to remove the VPN profile before the Wi-Fi can be re-established. Do this by going: General - VPN & Device Management - Tap on VPN at top - Tap the VPN profile - Delete VPN (in red text).

This removes the VPN profile from phone settings and Wi-Fi should kick in immediately. This does not delete the VPN app.

Good luck and you can thank Nick! (Not his real name)

Well, you'd hope that someone who spent as $much$ as I did to have a 4-pack Orbi 960 for years & now a 4-pack Eero 7 Max just days after it got released would know how a mesh system works... :) In a mesh system, you don't even have the chance to tell a remote extender to broadcast another SSID than the gateway router, unless you are setting every single one as a separate non-Mesh network. Clearly, that is not why I spent that money. And Orbi cannot do that anyways since their satellites run on a different dumber circuitry with a watered-down driver and therefore not able to do anything on their own without the router telling them to. Plus, the fact that the issue happens on both Orbi & Eero hugely singles out the device/phone's inability to deal with roaming between satellites with certain characteristics. And the fact that I mentioned that setting the network to 2.4Ghz-only doesn't solve it means that it is not exactly an issue of the phone's inability to deal with 6Ghz properly but more an issue of the phone's inability to properly deal with the updated Wi-Fi protocols to allow routers to send 2.4/5/6Ghz out without confusing older devices who don't know about 6Ghz. Furthermore, the continued ability of all non-6Ghz devices on my network being able to continue to roam both on Orbi & Eero further points to iPhone 15, not the network. And, finally, Eero 7 Max being the latest hardware, it doesn't even come with the v6.xxx firmware and one cannot even install it without it updating itself automatically to the latest firmware. And an additional latest firmware has been released Oct 30th and I am running it. Still the same problem.

Yes, this is purely an iPhone 15 (Pro Max?) issue. To prove the point, I think there have been reports yesterday that Apple acknowledged that they pushed a fix into the iOS 17.2 Beta channel, but who wants to use Beta iOS on their main device replacing half of their brain? LOL...

The problem may be with your wifi modem/router, and not the iPhone. Some internet service providers (ISPs) are having connectivity issues between their equipment and the new iPhone 15/pro/max, with no connection or connection dropping. If you call your ISP, they have a patch, like splitting your network. Any fix from re-setting your network connections on the phone, or re-starting your modem, is likely only temporary.

There's nothing in iOS or Apple hardware preventing connection on Wi-Fi channels 36-64.

Instead channels 64 and below may subject to DFS and TPC, which may slow down speeds on those channels.

In those cases the router may band steer the device to 2.4 GHz bands in an effort to speed up transfers or to provide a stronger signal.

5 GHz channels of 149 and above (in the US) have no such restrictions.

This is a good primer on such things:

I can't believe after 3 months and several software updates, Apple still hasn't address this issue or fixed it.

But I have a small update. After giving up for some time, I circled back to the various threads from Apple Community, Reddit, and MacRumors and someone suggested renaming the SSID of their 5ghz wifi. Miraculously, my iPhone 15 Pro Max was able to connect to that channel and have internet connection. However, it seems unstable. It has lost internet connection within a couple of minutes a few times. I would have to either forget the network and reconnect or put it in and out of airplane mode to get it to reconnect. I'll have to continue using to see if it'll keep doing that.

For reference, my SSID was the default of "CenturyLinkXXXX-5G" (where the XXXX is the name for each of the apartment in my building). I renamed it to "CenturyLinkXXXX-test" and it seemed to work. I made no other changes to the wifi's channel, mode, bandwidth, etc; only changed the name of the wifi.

Good luck and godspeed.
