iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

Let’s ensure that you have properly used the Forced Restart method shown below.

——

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Glad to help, glad I was able to retrieve the information. To any little old ladies. That saved to buy a new iPhone with extra data. We are sorry your touch screen stopped working. Look at the positve you can see your home screen. We are all sorry if you can’t afford to retrieve your grand kids’ photos. Now is a great time to get into loan. Their all grown up now anyway, who what’s memories. Shame on you Apple, hope you see this and do better. Apple devices are no longer designed for when touch screen stops working and customers without cash on hand. Bring back options. Pretty sure SJ would be rolling in his grave.

This worked for me, but I had to plug in my phone to the MacBook first. Seriously - what if grandma had an iPhone and she couldn't get this to work? That's terrible, Apple should send out a fix. We shouldn't have to do this restart to get it to work. With that said, I appreciate the instructions. I will copy and paste these instructions to people.

This is unfortunately a syndrome of modern corporate philosophy as apparent profit has become more important than inconveniencing customers. But by not eliminating bugs before promotion, profits are actually reduced and customer image / reputation harmed.

I’m not a tech; just an old guy who progressed from quill to my boss’s mandate to learn how to use an early Compaq portable sewing machine sized computer whilst tech people loaded it up following which I was sent on secondment to Malaysia to use the computer to develop local staff.

The rules of those days were NOTHING was promoted from developers to users unless it was thoroughly tested to get rid of all bugs.

Unfortunately today, it’s all slapdash and hurry to get software out to customers, no matter it be riddled by bugs. This speed over quality in the long run is far more wasteful than getting rid of bugs before promotion. It’s bad customer relations and encourages users to seek out better and more reliable competitors.

My day has started badly because of Apples slapdash philosophy. No man wants to be awoken by a hysterical wife with a frozen iPhone, particularly when he doesn’t know the remedy.

I’m thankful and grateful I found this solution but APPLE, you charge enough for your supposed quality products. Stop the shortcuts. TEST TEST TEST & TEST again before promotion of anything, fix or otherwise. Stop hurting us, your long suffering devotee customers, before the last straw breaks our backs.

My touch screen was also frozen today. I just updated to ios 17.4.1 yesterday. Fortunately, the suggestions on this list to press the up volume switch, then then down volume switch, then the side button worked on the second try. But, if I did not have alternate access to the internet besides my iphone I would not have discovered this fix. Clearly, it is a software glitch that has been going on for awhile. Apple needs to fix this issue!
