iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

After latest iOS 17 update, my iPhone 13 touchscreen is completely unresponsive - It won’t even let me restart or shut down. Major crisis! Hey, Apple: Please help us fix this problem soon!

This happened to me last night and has only got worse since, despite attempting every suggested fix suggested here and elsewhere online. I haven't even updated my iOS, I'm still on 16.2, but exactly the same issue - phone had zero issues prior to last night. The only cause I could think of (before coming on here) is that I let my battery drop below 10%, which is something I don't normally do, and recently changed contract providers, but now suspect that neither had anything to do with it.

I can't believe thousands of peoples' devices have become unusable in the space of a couple of months and Apple is communicating nothing other than pre-existing fixes which - for most people - seem not to work.

After my iPhone 15 Pro auto-updated last night to iOS 17.2.1, my iPhone touchscreen became unresponsive to any touch. I read this thread and tried a hard reset multiple times, which did NOT work. I called Apple support, who told me they couldn't do anything to help and denied this being an iPhone problem..."never heard of this issue before you." They recommended I drive to an Apple store.

When I plugged my iPhone into my computer, it notified me that the phone was in DFU mode, and only left me the option for a factory reset.

I really didn't want to reset my phone to factory settings, but ended up driving the Apple store 40 minutes away, who told me to just reset my phone. If it didn't work, they'd give me another phone. I reset my phone and it seems to be working for the moment. My iCloud backup was backed up last night, so it is currently restoring all my apps and such from the iCloud.

My conclusion: I think there is some glitch in Apple's update that causes the touch screen to become unresponsive. This is quite a hassle to restore an iPhone. This process took about 5 hours of my time.

I took a nap after dinner then my iphone 15 pro max somehow updated even without put on charging. After I woke up, the touchscreen was completely unresponsive. I forced restart more than 10 times but it did not help at all. The siri always poped up after each restart somehow. I connected it my iMac that said my phone was in a recovery mode that required a restore. After losing all hope, I hit the restore button.... The touchscreen worked again after factore restore.....super FRUSTRATING

My wife’s 13 pro max did the same. Woke up in the morning to an unresponsive screen. Went to Apple store (90 minutes away), they updated it to the latest OS, then restored it to factory settings, then they tried 2 screen replacements, now they want $500 to “open up the back and replace the motherboard.” But they can’t even guarantee that that will fix the problem. The phone is only worth $500 as a trade-in but we’re still paying on it for 18 more months. Will keep trying to restart, plug in to computer, etc. but this really seems like an Apple problem that they caused. Would like to hear anything from Apple about this issue.

I'm facing the same issue on my iPhone SE 2020. Sometimes force restart works 1 in 10 times, the other 9 times touchscreen continues to be unresponsive. And the one time when the screen starts working , it becomes unresponsive again after a short period of time. Haven't managed to identify any specific pattern before the touchscreen goes unresponsive. Even tried factory reset however still this issue continues to persist. Also went to the store they couldn't help either. To my surprise they suspected my iPhone is not a genuine apple product. Have you managed to figure out the resolve to this problem yet? It certainly seems to be a widespread issue affecting multiple users across varied iPhone models, however Apple doesn't seem to care at all!

Ugh, same here!

ever since updating to iOS 17 had intermittent issues with screen not working, heating up battery dying fast. Updated to iOS 17.2.1 and now my screen won’t work at all- can’t swipe enter passcode nothing. Many many force restarts and restore and update still not working contact Apple and I can take to store and may have to pay.. I still have 9 months of my contract left. Phones mint shape always in case etc.. so frustrating

Exactly. These types of widespread problems after a software update, is due to bugs in the software. They’ll need to own it and fix it fast or they’ll have a tremendous amount of consumers choosing to quit apple phones vs buying a new iPhone. I’d like to believe this was an honest error and not a ploy to sell a massive number of new phones. Typing this message took so long and a ton frustrating edits because of the stupid update messing up my keyboard and my touch screen accuracy. Ugh!!

This has happened to me today. The screen was working perfectly, did the iOS 17.3 upgrade and the touch screen function has stopped on restart. I've done the recommended reset and nothing... I've released the right button before the apple appears, when the apple appears and after the apple appears and then disappears and the result is the same. It's and 15 Pro Max that was working perfectly prior to the software upgrade...

Yesterday evening I updated to 17.3 with my iPhone 15 Pro Max and I had the same issue. I went to the Apple Store around the corner and they connected my phone to a MacBook (specially for this) and did the factory reset (DFU) for me on the spot as it was not busy in the store. This worked and I restored my iPhone again. My eSims were also still working fortunately.

iPhone slow. Touch screen very slow. Swiping down to up very difficult. Battery health went down several percentages and is now 78%. Spoke to Apple Support twice and Genius Bar once. Was told I'd have to spend £65 on a battery and £159 on a new screen. I was very reluctant. Knew the trouble was caused by the updates. Made sure I was backed up on iCloud and did a Restore yesterday. Then updated IOS 17.3. After 4 hours screen started working properly again but battery health remains the same. Also go to Settings and systematically check that the update hasn't switched on or off what you previously had. W~hat I can tell you is that the December updates are responsible and you do NOT need to replace your screen no matter what Apple tells you.
