Apple CarPlay not working with iPhone 15 (USB-C issue?)

My vehicle only has a USB adapter to connect to my stereo to enable Apple CarPlay. Now that I'm using a USB to USB-C cable, Apple CarPlay no longer works with the iPhone 15. Any ideas on how to address this? Should I try different cables or is this more of a fundamental issue with the new iOS or iPhone 15?

All - just following up on resolution here. It was the fact that the cable I was using wasn’t for data, only charging. I bought a Belkin USB-A to USB-C cable from Amazon and now my CarPlay is working. It just took a while for it to come in because everything was back ordered.

Thank you @lobsterghost1 and @Dogcow-Moof. Your direction helped me solve the issue.

My issue is different than everything I find online. mine works fine with my Sony aftermarket Carplay head unit (XAV-AX210) - but only AFTER the head unit is on and booted up. I can not plug in until after the "beep" of the unit being booted up. Anytime before that and it simply doesn't recognize the phone is plugged in. BUT this was never an issue with my iPhone SE 2nd gen that I had right before the iPhone 15. There are almost zero settings for CarPlay on the phone and I've forgotten the vehicle numerous times and have a different name on my phone than my old phone. Has anyone seen this issue?? Again, it works fine - but only if I plug it in after everything is on. That's not my normal process - I used to get in, plug it in, then turn on the vehicle. By the time I'm ready to take off everything should be up and running - now I have to turn on the vehicle and wait for the head unit to boot up before I can plug in and get started. It's crazy and makes no sense.

After spending and hour and a half in the car I was told that I had to go to the dealership to update my 2017 Buick envisions firmware to enable CarPlay with the iPhone 15. I did, paid $215 and four hours later with four Buick advisers, Onstar and Apple it still doesn’t work.

i phoned apple today to speak with a Tier one person who after asking me if I did this, did I do that told me that Apple is aware of the problem and their engineers are working it. But it’s important that people let them know of their particular issue.

so basically we are the Guinea pigs for the Apple engineers and doing their troubleshooting for them. They’ve known of this issue since November 2023 and they are still selling iPhone 15s without a resolution.

shame on Apple.
