Apple CarPlay not working with iPhone 15 (USB-C issue?)

My vehicle only has a USB adapter to connect to my stereo to enable Apple CarPlay. Now that I'm using a USB to USB-C cable, Apple CarPlay no longer works with the iPhone 15. Any ideas on how to address this? Should I try different cables or is this more of a fundamental issue with the new iOS or iPhone 15?

Many USB to USB-C cables and adapters support charging only, not data transfer, and data transfer is required for CarPlay.

Check with the manufacturer of the cable and/or its packaging to determine whether it is a charge-only cable or whether it is a data cable as well.

This is true for all cable manufacturers; for example, reliable cable company Anker sells both charge-only and full data cables.

My iPhone 15 on OS 17.1.2 continues to play intermittently. I have an approved USB C to USB A cable with no adapters plugged into my 2023 Ionic 6. I've worked with AppleCare and we did all the obvious.

While playing Apple Music from my playlists, which doesn't require cell service, the infotainment system drops out. The roads are smooth so I've eliminated vehicle vibrations as a cause. It mysteriously comes back on. Sometimes it will work after resetting by replugging the USB cable, sometimes not.

I'm led to believe the issue is with iPhone 15 and the software. I did not have this problem with my iPhone 13!

Any thoughts?

I just started having issues connecting apply car play in my ford escape to my iphone 15. i just got both the car and the phone.

I was using just a cheap USB C to C cord for my phone and it worked fine for a month. Now it says the cord is "not approved." So i pulled out the cord i got with my new phone, it didn't work, same problem. i bought a new C to C cord from Apple. still not working. I went through all the 'trouble shooting' suggestions, but nothing seems to work.

my daughter's iphone 11 USB A to Lightning, works just fine, even with a cheap cord. I even tried a USB A to C cord for my phone, not work.

I've tried calling apple customer service, but apparently they work bankers hours, so i need to find a day when i can call them while in my car in the middle of the day.

any other suggestions I can try?

This answer would only explain if you can never get Apple CarPlay to come up. But how about when sometimes CarPlay comes up and sometimes it won’t ? It’s just super glitchy. clearly I have the right cord if I can get it to come up sometimes. This seems to only happen when I’m using the C port in my car. When I use a C to A adapter in the other port, it doesn’t seem as glitchy.

Is there any trick to this? I’ve read most of the comments. I’ve tried 3 different cables including the Belkin one recommended and still no luck. I have a 2019 Chevy Tahoe. I’ve even bought an adapter so I can use the Apple cord that came with my phone and it’s still not working. It will connect to Bluetooth but not Car Play.

My issue is different than everything I find online. mine works fine with my Sony aftermarket Carplay head unit (XAV-AX210) - but only AFTER the head unit is on and booted up. I can not plug in until after the "beep" of the unit being booted up. Anytime before that and it simply doesn't recognize the phone is plugged in. BUT this was never an issue with my iPhone SE 2nd gen that I had right before the iPhone 15. There are almost zero settings for CarPlay on the phone and I've forgotten the vehicle numerous times and have a different name on my phone than my old phone. Has anyone seen this issue?? Again, it works fine - but only if I plug it in after everything is on. That's not my normal process - I used to get in, plug it in, then turn on the vehicle. By the time I'm ready to take off everything should be up and running - now I have to turn on the vehicle and wait for the head unit to boot up before I can plug in and get started. It's crazy and makes no sense.
