Sonoma 14.0 update internet problems

I have a MacBook Air and last night I did the Sonoma 14.0 update. Once it finished, my MacBook no longer gets the internet. It connects to Wi-Fi, but there’s no internet. I know it isn’t my router since we have other devices connected to it. I tried resetting the router anyway, which didn’t work. I tried rebooting the computer, “forgetting” the Wi-Fi and reconnecting, I changed the DNS IP address to 8.8.8.8, I renewed the DHCP lease, I checked the date and time settings. Nothing is working. I tried connecting to a different Wi-Fi and am having the same issues. It won’t let me use the internet off my hotspot either. Please help.

Actually, I went to Settings>Network>Network Filters and turned them all off. That fixed it. Could be what fixes it for a lot of people.

I had your same issue. I use my Mac for personal as well as my work Remote Desktop. The issue I found was this: if you go into Settings>Network I had my network connections (internet and Wi-Fi) then below those it had one that said “Filters” and clicking on that it showed my VPN connections that you could enable or not. I uninstalled my vpn and I still had the issue. I then went back and uninstalled the vpn connections in the network filters area (they were still there even though we uninstalled the vpn client)then reinstalled my vpn. Everything worked fine after that.

Just stumbled across this thread (as I have literally just had the same issue). I noticed that the time and date on my Macbook Air (M1, Sonoma 14.1.1) was incorrect. Then I checked to see if unsecure HTTP web links would load: they did. That indicated to me that the issue lay in a corrupt time file as, ICYDK, the algorithms for HTTPS/TLS/Etc. secure connections have a time component.

I did this:

1 => open terminal

2 =>type:

sudo mv /var/db/timed/com.apple.timed.plist ./com.apple.timed.plist.CORRUPT

(This command moves the timed file to your user home folder and labels it CORRUPT)

3 => enter your login password (to use the sudo command)

4 => restart

5 => login as usual and check connections to https files.

This works because the timed file is corrupted (for whatever reason) and thus throws off the HTTPS/TLS encryption algorithm: causing HTTPS/TLS attempts to fail. Removing the timed file causes it to be replaced at restart.

The indicator that the above may fix your issue is the incorrect time and date.

Hope that helps, David.

This is what solved my problem connecting between iPhone Hospot and my mobile provider.

After beeing connected to your phone:;

1. open system settings on MAC

2. search for "DNS "

3. select entry: "DNS server, server (network) "

4. A window opens5. Select "DNS" in the side menu

6. Check the DNS servers and delete all entries (highlight entry, press "-" button)

7. Check the search domains and delete all entries (as 6)

8. Select "TCP/IP" in the side menu

9. Configure IPv4: Automatic

10. Configure IPv6: Automatic

11. Select "Proxies" in the side menu

12 Activate automatic "Proxy discovery"

And I could see the connection sign again and that was it.

I had McAfee on my iMac simply because it was supplied by T Mobile. After the initial upgrade to Sonoma, I started having an issue with it, so I uninstalled it. With the Sonoma 14.1.1 update, I was also not able to connect to the internet. I went to Settings/Network/Network filters as mentioned by Tulsatough and found a McAfee filter still active. After deactivating it, problem solved.

Hi, I was able to get it to work following your guide. But I only had to remove the DNS entries:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

After removing these entries and not adding anything else, the internet connected perfectly. I didn't have to turn on "Auto proxy discovery". I don't know if that's still very important, but either way the Internet is now connecting and Webpages are fully loading.

Thanks for sharing this. I've been failing to connect for 7 days straight since I made this update. The weird thing was that I was able to connect to other WiFi routers including my Samsung phone hotspot, however I recently bought a new router by another ISP, and it was connecting to every other device except my Macbook Pro M1 (running updated OS). Samsung phones connected, my wife's Macbook Air M1 connected (she hadn't updated the OS yet). I've been pulling my hair trying every possible solution on YouTube and Google.

Anyways thanks 😊
