iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple Pay not working

When i try to use Apple Pay on my new phone, after double clicking on side button, message comes up to bring phone nearer to the terminal, i have had phone in all positions on the terminal but payment will not complete, then the wallet app freezes when i try to cancel app and restart. It is not just one cards it happens on all cards. I have tried cancelling cards and re-applying them, restarting phone, these have not resolved the problem. Meanwhile apple pay on my watch is working fine. Anyone had this problem, or has ideas to fix?

Do you drive a BMW? Have you charged your phone on the surface charger inside of the car? From what happened to me and other on another forum, that may be the culprit. I and other had to get replacement phones from Genius Bar. The diagnostic test showed a failed Apple Pay unit.

Difficult to say. In my case it first seemed to be a software issue, since the problem occured with iOS 17.1. I called the helpline yesterday and they recommended to put the phone into recovery mode and do an update with iTunes. It was said, the problem is known. After doing all the recommended steps, I still have the issue though. However, it doesn't seem to be a systematic error, otherwise there would be a large echo in the media (besides the NFC issue linked to BMW). In any case, it is a new phone - not even 4 weeks old - it was expensive and Apple Pay for me is a key function, which I frequently use. Currently, I can only use it once in a while, which to be honest is not acceptable when buying such an expensive phone. But I'm sure Apple will find a solution, i.e. fixing it soon with Software Update, repairing it or replacing the phone with a new one.

Same problem. Talked to what seemed like everyone at US Bank, they said they couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t add my US Bank card to my iPhone wallet. (Although my wife could add it to her iPhone wallet) I used US Bank app to change my PIN number on my card and then tried to add it from the app. BANG! It worked! I can now add my bank card to my apple wallet.

Hi thanks for replying. Firstly I had no probs with my previous iPhone 12 Pro Max, only started after adopting new phone. I have signed in and out of iCloud, restarted phone numerous times, deleted wallet app and re-installed, deleted all cards and re-installed them. Tried using AP at numerous shops, same problem everywhere. I stepped short of re-setting phone, leaving this as last resort, due to time and effort to reset up. I might have to do this, or contact apple support.

I got by mistake 2 iPhone 15Pro, I started using one and everything was good. Suddenly the apple pay stop working, it was telling me the cards were being updated, then stopped working completely, on all 10 cards I have loaded it says "This card cannot be used". I haven't return the second phone I got, so I went and returned the one it wasn't working. I still haven't delete the info on my 14 pro so I copied everything on my other 15pro, everything was fine and suddenly the same happened exactly. I have a new BMW and it seems like this happened while I was connecting my phone on the car. Then my wife's 15Pro Max started having the same issue. Everything works fine, except the apple pay. And cannot listed to the phone on the BMW.

Just had the same problem with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Tried using apple pay and said all cards were unavailable. Attempted to do a hard reset and then the phone went into restore data mode for about 10-20 minutes. After rebooting, the cards were marked as "unavailable." Removed the cards and cannot add them back since every time I hit the plus sign it says "Apple Pay Not Available." Attempted to reset settings and now it's been stuck at the Apple logo for about 30 minutes.

in my case of NFC diagnostics were ok both remotely and in real time at apple store. So no issues apparently both in software and hardware looking at diagnostics. When also the Genius tried to pay via Apple pay he did not manage to use it (a dozen of tests in front of me after all my tests). I tried all the resetting and restoring upon Apple support requeat after they launched the diagnostic.
