iPhone 15 hot when charging

Hi everyone

Iphone 15 gets quite warm while charging with apple 20W adapter, on the left side it is difficult to even touch, as soon as it reaches ~75% battery level, it starts cooling down and this problem is not observed after 75% charging (even at 90 or 100%), only till 70-75% phone gets heated.

Did anyone observe the same? software is updated.

Hi, have a new iPhone 15 plus doing this same thing. Very hot when charging, especially the left side and have the upgrade. Just wondering if you were able to resolve this issue or if it’s just something you are dealing with?

The physics of batteries dictate that when being charged they generate heat. If you are you using a 20w charger to charge your iPhone it will generate more heat than using the old standard 5w charger. Since it is normal for batteries to become warm while being charged, it would not be something to be concerned about in terms of longevity.

Whether you should purchase AppleCare is up to you. AppleCare covers much more than just the battery, so for me AppleCare+ is a must. But be advised you only have 60 days from original date of purchase to add an AppleCare+ plan.

I noticed my Iphone 15 overheating when using a USB-C / USB-C cable. I could charge my phone from 1 to 100% in about 90 minutes. However it got very warm, especially early in the charging cycle. That kind of heat can't be good for the battery over time. So, I tried charging with a USB-A / USB-C cable and charged my phone from starting near 0%. No over heating, but much slow charge cycle (about 4 hours to fully charge). That's not a big deal for me since I usually charge my phone over night or plug it in when sitting at my work desk. I'm just thrilled that my phone is no longer heating up while charging (and hopefully the phone battery will thank me by lasting longer).

I brought 15 last week and updated to 17.4.1 even though while charging it’s getting heat and normal using time feeling some heat

Charging an iPhone generates heat. Using an iPhone generates heat as the battery is working to power whatever you are doing at the time. Playing video games, taking photos, streaming music, all push the battery, which generates heat.

Hi I recently bought a iPhone 15 and had the same issues. Here's what resolved it for me:

follow all the settings suggestions here:

Google to find the YouTube video "25 Hacks To Fix iPhone Battery Drain" and "[iOS 17.2 Battery Drain]" on a channel called "Payette Forward" (sorry can't paste links, Apple censors them out)

then use a 15w charger instead of a 20w one. It still charges fast (23% in 7 mins)

this yielded mild warmth and resolved the overheating issue

Hello everyone,

I purchased an iPhone 15 plus in Sep 2023 but after updating to the iOS 17.* version, I suddenly feel that a heating issue increases while charging my phone generally between 20% to 75% and then it start cooling after that.

But it was so hot that i can't handed in and use my phone.

Very sad to the iPhone battery management team. Please kindly do needful in next release.

The Service centre at Khar, Mumbai- India just did my phone formatting and updated software but the heating issue while charging is persist. They even kept my phone for 1 wholday under observation and returned saying there is no heating problem. But from the time I have phone back (past 3days) the heating issue is still there. @iphone community pls suggest how to resolve it?

my I phone has the same heating issue.

although I haven’t checked exact % where heating is more, still I can say that it can’t be normal.

while charging with a 20w fast charger the phone heats up to such level that I can’t take it near my ears to talk.

apple must do something about it as it may severely effect the sensitive parts like motherboard and cpu including the battery.
