iPhone 15 Pro Max Black Screen

I have had my iPhone 15 pro max less than a month and this is the second time I have experienced the black screen of death. It Normally happens possibly whilst charging my phone through the night. Come the morning I’m faced with the issue. The buttons make sounds and vibrations as if the phone is on. However I am unable to reset or turn the phone off and on. The first time lasted a few hours into the morning where I would receive calls and notifications, but unable to see or answer. The second time until my set alarm went off and then the phone reset itself

I hope my writing will help someone.

I am also using 15 max and I have to Force restart iPhone.

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button

I hope it will be fixed in the next update.

@gam3r yeah it only happens at night when on charge. I've been in constant touch with apple support but they are still looking into it. It is definitely in my opinion a software issue as a hard reset fixes it everytime. So far has happened to me 3 times, twice of which was in the same week but hasn't happened since last week for whatever reason. Charging limit set to 80% as well.

The exact same thing happened to me just now! My heart skipped a bit.

Had it charging overnight and this morning unplugged it as usual and the screen was unresponsive. Checked the charging cord and charger which were normal and connected the phone again, felt the little vibration immediately and after a few minutes tried to turn on the phone nothing happened, tapped the action button and it vibrated again meaning it was on. Searched about the subject and saw advice to hard reset but since I could see the screen I not sure if I succedeed. After a few tried the screen came back to life.

My iPhone 15 Pro was bought mid September and this is something that I don’t expect from a 1350€ smartphone!!!

This needs to be addressed ASAP!

Shaw on another forum that this is related with using a non-original apple charger…

Black screen at 100% charged battery - 3 week old iPhone Pro Max

Have not read through all of these, but thought I would say thank you! to solutions posters. Three I thought were excellent so I'm reposting them

1) Force restart - quick press volume up, then volume down, then hold power button until apple logo,

2) Ask Siri - Poster noted if Siri doesn't respond, hold power button 2 sec

3) Settings - Set Optimized battery charging to 80% limit

Thanks again!

Same happened to me three times already in less than a month. I need to check my emails as soon as I wake up because of my business. Now with a this issue phone that I pay more than $1300 I have to wait two or three hours until the phone wants to work. There is a way to hard reset but because the screen is of is hard to do it.

i called Apple this morning and they want to send me a refurnished phone to replace this one which is new. Very bad for Apple to do that with their customers. Very disappointing

Brand new iPhone 15 pro max bought on 19th October and I have experienced this 3 times.

my old post was removed because I mentioned it’s happening on 17.2, but I reverted back to 17.1 and it’s still occurring

I’m wondering if this is software / hardware issue.

hope they address it

I am using charge until 80% and leave my charging connected bedside.

using always on display as well

when I wake up the display is black

what is weird is it’s not pitch black

the OLED panel is on. As you can see it’s on

Happened to me twice now. phone only a few weeks old. very inconvenient occurance. was able to find a solution yesterday using my laptop. pushed up and down volume buttons and then the start button..was ok during the day but charged overnight and same thing this morning-the black screen of death. used same maneuver but took 5-6 tries before the phone opened. not sure what to do but think I'll contact apple support. I'm traveling and this is most inconvenient.

Black screen was gone with past update now back with latest update 17.1.2 It was happening less than a month after I got my new iphone 15 pro max. I had same thing, that happened to ppl here: only if I charge it overnight, and first time I didn't know what was that and it freaked me out. better. I could here clicking sounds when I pressed the side button. Alarm worked. Could tell phone is working but the screen was pitch black. first time it happened, emergency sound was activated, which freaked me out wven more.. and worse it dialed 911. I went online and learned this: 1-press volume up quick and release, 2- press volume down and release then 3- press side button and hold till the apple logo appears .. But this problem was resolved with the last updates including the amazingly shorter battery. Yesterday, I updated system again to 17.1.2 I woke up just now to that same nonsense. It is definitely a system software issue with apple. They resolved and now they decided, nope let's put it back. Battery? will see if that battery fast discharge comes back again. I' don't know what happened to apple but this iphone 15 is by far the one with the most issues.

to add to my previous comment: I said Battery issues were less with the last update along with the black screen; Now battery issues back too 🙇‍♀️. This is terrible! I want to get rid of this iphone 15, should have waited at least half a year until they iron out the kinks .. only wrote one email and my last comment just now and battery charge down from 100 to 86
