iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working - Fix

Many have had issues like me with their iPhone 15 not working with CarPlay. The solution is NOT in the cables or USB C to A adapters. My vehicle a 2017 Chevy Suburban only has USB A ports. After discussion with Apple Tech support and others on this forum I put together the missing pieces. My screen shots are attached.

The key to the solution is You need to delete all devices from the the CarPlay device management in your radio. This along with renaming your iPhone and hard rebooting it. You will likely need to go through the CarPlay device management delete process several times until all are deleted. I found as I deleted there were many older devices still in the device management that appeared . Next un-pair from Bluetooth in car and on device forget. Once all devices are cleared the radio looks at your device as the first one connected to CarPlay and starts with a brand new message.

  1. Delete and forget your phone from Bluetooth on phone and on radio.
  2. Re-name your phone in Settings >About>Name
  3. Hard reboot your phone volume up>volume down> press and hold power button until Apple logo reappears and release.
  4. Plug in your USB C cable or in my case UBS C w/ USB C to A adapter or any name brand cable that is USB C to USB A. I used the Apple USB C and adapter, Anker USB C to USB A and Amazon Basics USB C to USB- A. All worked so the cable is not the issue.

Once plugged in CarPlay should pop up with a new welcome message and follow menu directions.

Last pair your phone via Bluetooth.

I tried this solution and it did not work for me. I was using an ‘Elebase USB A to USB C Adapter’ (From Amazon) and the white standard USB C corded cable that came with the iPhone 15 Pro. I then decided to try a cable that I used in my home.

It was one from Amazon…

(USB C to USB C Cable, 20Gbps Type C 3.2 Gen2x2 Cord with 20Gbps Rate, PD 240W 5A, 4K@60Hz Video and E-Marker for Thunderbolt 3/4, MacBook, Dell XPS, iPad Pro, Samsung S20, S21, SSD, Hub, Monitor (2M)).

As soon as I connected it, Apple CarPlay appeared.

My car is a 2017 Opel Insignia Elite.

All right, like everyone else I followed to the letter the first reply about the changing of your iPhones name and then turning it off and then trying to get CarPlay to find it and show on screen, it was a no go for me. I have a 2017 Cadillac XT5.

You’re gonna hate this, but this is what you have to do.

You will have to set up Face ID/passcode & re-add cards to Wallet when the following steps have been completed.

1- Go to Wallet and take a screenshot

2- Go to

Settings >General>Reset>Reset Settings ONLY

3-Leave ALL features OFF (do not turn on Bluetooth yet, locations ….)

4- Go to Settings>General>About Name -Rename Device

5- Go to Main/Home Screen in Car

6- Plug in cable

Your setup should start walking you through at this point for Maps, Bluetooth etc

it took me a frustrating almost 45 minutes before doing the Reset All Settings as a last resort - it worked. My maps are back up on my screen, and I can connect wirelessly again and see it on the screen.

Hope this works for you💃🏽🕺🎉

For anyone still encountering this issue, I have fix to add. I had this problem with my new iPhone 15 Pro in my 2017 Mustang. Plugging it in with a USB-C to USB cord would trigger the warning and my phone wouldn't even charge, let alone connect to CarPlay.

I bought the Belkin USB-A to USB-C cord that was recommended, and it still wouldn't work. Same issue, same error. I deleted the Bluetooth connection and all Apple CarPlay profiles, and I changed the name of my iPhone, but it still wouldn't connect.

Here's how I made it work, which makes me suspect I didn't need to take any of the earlier steps (I'll test one of my old cords later to see if I can make them work using this method):

1. Turn off the iPhone

2. Plug the iPhone into the car's USB port

3. Turn on the iPhone

My iPhone came to life and immediately showed the "charging" indicator. Then, a notification popped up on my iPhone stating that I must unlock it to use the "connected accessory". I unlocked my iPhone and the CarPlay setup commenced & completed without a hitch.

After spending hours trying to connect my new iPhone 15 Pro to my 2019 Mazda, I bought the Apple USB-C to lightning adapter. I had been able to connect my phone via Bluetooth for phone, messages, and audio function but it would not connect to Car Play like my older iPhone SE or my husband's iPhone 14, which both used the lightning connector. I plugged the adapter into my phone and used the regular USB-A to lightning phone cable and booted my phone and logged in with the passcode. As soon as I turned on my car, prompts came up to connect to Car Play. I choose always enable. Immediately the Car Play app displayed in the car screen. Easy. This is definitely a fix that needs to be addressed by Apple. Hope this helps others.

Like everyone here, I tried everything. Deleted all Bluetooth connections from my 2022 Honda Ridgeline, renamed my phone, etc. Today I borrowed someone’s cable and tried it—brought up CarPlay right away. I have a plain iPhone 15. Went to the Verizon store and bought another cable but they let me try it in my truck before handing over any cash. Works like a charm. Good luck to everyone still fighting this problem.

I tried all of the above suggestions and nothing worked after upgrading to an iPhone 15. This phone simply has a flaw that does not allow it to work with a wired Car Play car and Apple has know about this for almost a year now.

It should not be this complicated getting it to work considering, in the excat same car, ALL previous phones worked until the iPhone 15 came out.

So something is not right here. After spending two weeks troubleshooting and on the phone with Apple support, I gave up and bought a $50 adapter that converts my "wired only " Car Play into a wirless version and now I can use the phone again with car Play. But there are still weird connection messages on the phone but at least it works.

In the end, I do not see where my iPhone 15 does any more than my old one did so this is great disappointment!

My solution was absolutely in the cable. I tried so many charging and data cords, adapters and other suggestions on here. I deleted my phone from my car and forgot my car on my phone. I just kept getting a “charging error”. I finally found this cord and as soon as I plugged in my phone, the startup for CarPlay started up. Then I unplugged and set up Bluetooth manually.

I did not have to hard reboot nor rename my phone.

I also ordered the cord from Best Buy mentioned in this thread. Haven’t received it it, but I am thinking it will

prob work.

I also wonder if the solution has to do with the car model. I see so many different solutions that worked for people, it seems like there is some reason for all the solutions.

I have a 2017 Honda Civic EXT.

I had the same issues with my Honda City 2019. I was happily using an iPhone 12, then an iPhone 14 all with the USB-A - Lightning connectivity. Upgraded to iPhone 15 last week, and since then CarPlay is refusing to connect.

The cable that came with the phone was no good, as the car only has a USB A port. I use CarPlay a lot, so this was a major handicap.

Trawled the net for articles, most of which proved useless, and then stumbled on to this post, and decided to try my luck.

After trying with multiple (third party) cables, ordered a Belkin USB-A - USB-C cable(https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B085585Y3D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Here is what I did:

  1. Made my phone "Forget" the car in Bluetooth settings
  2. Made sure to cold-restart the phone and the car
  3. Connected the cable to the car's USB-A port and then to the phone
  4. et Voila!!! It works now. Lesson learnt - use a cable certified to work with Apple devices even if a bit pricey.

Just to be sure, also tried connecting through a USB-A-USB-C converter (https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B09MZDL4NZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and attaching the original Apple USB-C cable that came with the phone, and that works too... Planning to stick with the Belkin cable connection, as it is lesser number of connections.

Haven't connected the Bluetooth back yet, but guess that can wait a bit. Hope this is useful for those others who are struggling likewise.

THANK YOU!!!! This worked for me after a very frustrating week of trying to figure it out and buying various adapters and cords. I have a 2022 Honda Pilot and was about to return my new iPhone 15. Followed these steps, reconnected to Bluetooth and boom I connected to CarPlay! I would add that I tried several cords after this fix and the 2 that worked were certified Made for iPhone (MFI). I am also using the cords plugged into a USB to USB C adapter.

I got a rental 2024 Mazda 3. Had the same issue where the car would allow me to connect my phone. What ended working for was connecting to CarPlay while having a power bank hooked up to the phone at the same time. Not sure the actual reason why it worked but it did. And after the initial connection I didn’t need the power bank after when I plugged my phone into car. If it works. Might be a good work around instead of having to mess around with the settings
