iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working - Fix

Many have had issues like me with their iPhone 15 not working with CarPlay. The solution is NOT in the cables or USB C to A adapters. My vehicle a 2017 Chevy Suburban only has USB A ports. After discussion with Apple Tech support and others on this forum I put together the missing pieces. My screen shots are attached.

The key to the solution is You need to delete all devices from the the CarPlay device management in your radio. This along with renaming your iPhone and hard rebooting it. You will likely need to go through the CarPlay device management delete process several times until all are deleted. I found as I deleted there were many older devices still in the device management that appeared . Next un-pair from Bluetooth in car and on device forget. Once all devices are cleared the radio looks at your device as the first one connected to CarPlay and starts with a brand new message.

Delete and forget your phone from Bluetooth on phone and on radio.
Re-name your phone in Settings >About>Name
Hard reboot your phone volume up>volume down> press and hold power button until Apple logo reappears and release.
Plug in your USB C cable or in my case UBS C w/ USB C to A adapter or any name brand cable that is USB C to USB A. I used the Apple USB C and adapter, Anker USB C to USB A and Amazon Basics USB C to USB- A. All worked so the cable is not the issue.

Once plugged in CarPlay should pop up with a new welcome message and follow menu directions.

Last pair your phone via Bluetooth.

I tried this solution and it did not work for me. I was using an ‘Elebase USB A to USB C Adapter’ (From Amazon) and the white standard USB C corded cable that came with the iPhone 15 Pro. I then decided to try a cable that I used in my home.

It was one from Amazon…

(USB C to USB C Cable, 20Gbps Type C 3.2 Gen2x2 Cord with 20Gbps Rate, PD 240W 5A, 4K@60Hz Video and E-Marker for Thunderbolt 3/4, MacBook, Dell XPS, iPad Pro, Samsung S20, S21, SSD, Hub, Monitor (2M)).

As soon as I connected it, Apple CarPlay appeared.

My car is a 2017 Opel Insignia Elite.

It worked!

I spent hours on text and phone support with Apple trying to connect iPhone 15Pro to my 2023 car and they were no help. I was ready to return the iPhone, but these instructions and a new data cable worked perfectly.

I tried a few cheap usb-a to usb-c cables, none of them worked when it came to playing music. After reading this thread, ordered a slightly pricier cable on Amazon. I have the Lexus NX 300 2021 ! Trust me I was frustrated as well. I bought 3 different Cport to USB adapters and this one worked https://amzn.to/3MWrh4c. Maybe give it a shot as a last resort??. It states "Compatible with iPhone 16"

I HAVE A IPHONE15 AND I HAD THE SAME ISUUE WITH MY 2022 BMW 760 UNTIL I CHANGED THE NAME OF MY PHONE IN SETTINGS ON THE IPHONE AND IT WORKS FINE

This didn't work for me with my 2021 Honda Passport. I got my iPhone 15 in September and only started having problems with it a month ago. I've spent hours talking to Apple support and they have determined that it is not the cable, not the car, but an Apple issue. Developers are still working to try to fix it so hopefully a new update will come out soon!

Unfortunately the best way to deal with this issue is to get a bluetooth device at Best Buy or Amazon and connect to CarPlay wirelessly. The downside is there tends to be a slight delay when rewinding or fast forwarding through tracks in iTunes or when accessing other apps.

I’m not sure if this is still an issue with people, or not, but it seems as though it might have been resolved(?).

I was having the same issue with my new iPhone 15 Pro Max, which brought me to these discussions. I was using a standard USB-C to USB cable, and it never recognized my phone. It did in Bluetooth, just not through the cable.

I was close to an AT&T store, so I decided to pick up a new USB-C to USB-C cable (my car has USB-C ports), plugged it in and it picked it up right away. Before changing the cable, I did notice that my phone wasn’t charging. So, I may have had a bad cable.

Currently, it’s working just fine! It may just be a cable issue.

If you read into the details, most usb-a to usb-c cords are for charging only. Find a cord for charging and sync or some type of data transmission.

Have tried all the suggestions to get my iPhone to recognize CarPlay but it will not. Contacted Apple mid January and they did diagnostic test but have never replied with an answer. It’s almost May and apple will not respond to my requests for updates to my case number. Might have to become and android user because I know that works.

Hi how do I delete the very old CarPlay/android users from my car as it’s fainted out doesn’t let me remove it or click it or anything. I’m still not able to connect my iPhone 15 pro max to my Audi a3 66 plate

Hello,

i tried all option amd followed instructions but issue still exist.

i noticed the issue happens when phone is being moved. I tried multiple cables but none worled well.

i guess it is time to downgrade the phone to 14

Where did you get the adapter? What should I look for. Yesterday I had my USB port replaced in my 2016 Chevy Cruze. It was bad. Before that, I thought my phone was the issue and I upgraded from a 13 to a 15. Now that my USB port is working and charging my phone, I cannot get it to connect to carplay. I have yet to try the other steps, but will do so after work. If that doesn't work, I would like to try the adapter if I need to.

This finally worked! Thank you soo much. I have been super frustrated with my iPhone 15 not activating Car Play in my Jeep. I bought the adapter and cord other forums recommended but those didn’t work until I took your approach. Lifesaver!!!

After tearing my hair out, deleting, reinstalling... I found that the proper reponse is a $6 fix from Amazon: Carplay is designed to work with Apple's lightning plug, so I just bought a lightning female to usbc male adapter. Fixed.
