After update, Apple Pay says my card is expiring, but it is not

Why did the new update make Apple think my Apple Pay acct think my card is expired ? It won’t expire for two years, and now I can’t use Apple Pay for anything.

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Mine is doing the same thing. I can’t download any apps or many any in-app purchases because it says my card is going to expire. It doesn’t expire for a while. Very frustrating because I can’t remove the card to try and add it back in from my phone because of my active Apple Music subscription.

I updated to 17.1.2 days ago and it was after that my card did this. I had to add another card temporarily so I could delete my original and re-add. All that has got me is the expired card message gone. Now my facial recognition/double click in iTunes/App store no longer works. I’ve done all the cycling of settings, reset my facial settings, forced reset phone multiple times and nothing.

I’ve re-jumped through the hoops with support’s direction to no avail. Just updated to 17.2.1 and still nothing. They’re supposed to actually call me now tomorrow 1-2-24. 🤞🏼

I have a variation on the problem. Received notification today saying my card has expired and apple can't charge me for icloud.

The card has not expired and the warning that appears in Payment and Delivery does not appear in wallet and apple pay for the same card though....

I cannot edit the presumably expired card in Payment and Delivery or even see the expiry date on it

It looks like I am able to add the same card as a new payment method but it does not appear to be linked to my bank - just shows with a generic icon

Can't see if this has worked and card has been charged

Updating this note that have just validated that my apple pay continues to work and apple is quite happy to accept my payment in Itunes using the same card that it insist has expired for accounts and subscriptions

I had two reps remote into my phone and neither could fix it. The next step to resolving no side button after fixing the expired card message was going to be connecting to a laptop and wiping previous software versions from the phone. My wife was on my shared plan and was having to get a code from me to buy songs. She got frustrated and left. At that point my doubly click to buy songs and apps returned to normal. So apparently our accounts being linked was keeping something on my phone from resetting.

The problem is Apple Pay/Wallet lost the last 2-digits of our expiration dates. It’s only reading the “20xx” and lost the last 2-digits.

Unfortunately this iOS will not let you edit the card info, EVEN if your card number has not changed (like if you got the new one in mail with simply a new exp date!!!).

SOOOOO, you have to DELETE the card then add it back in using the “MM/YYYY” format and it then works!

Got the same email that my card had expired - even though it doesn't until the end of the year. Couldn't remove it as it was my only method of payment, so added Paypal, then deleted visa and added it back in again. Looks like it is all working again. Reset my Apple Pay to Visa and made sure it was still my default. Thanks for starting this thread.

Hello all, I just got off the phone with apple and it is in deed a glitch on their end. However, I was able to fix this by putting in a new card just so I could get rid of my card with the error. It then gave me the ability to delete my old card. So then I could re-uploaded my regular card (and deleted the new card I just put in) and it worked like a charm. It seems like an unnecessary amount of work, but it did fix the problem.

I was having the same issue, I couldn’t delete my current card like mention above since it kept saying I had an active subscription. I had to contact support. Here is what I had to do.

go to settings

click on your name

shipping and address

add a different card 1st

then delete the original card

then go back and add the original card and then delete the different card you don’t want.

This solved my issue, I hope it does for you.

As I posted earlier, I had the same problem and it wouldn’t let me remove or re-add my card. I did fix it by first adding a different card. That allowed me to delete my original card. Then I was able to re-add my original card. What I found was that when I added the card using the camera there were no spaces between the numbers in the account and it didn’t like that. It kept rejecting the new card for unknown reasons until I manually entered the number where it automatically spaced where the spaces should be. But they need to fix the glitch not only to avoid headaches for people but for people who don’t have a second card they could do that with.

I've tried all of this, added another card, removed my old card. It lets me add the card back, but when I try to link it to apple pay it again tells me it's expired. It also tells me then that the security code isn't valid, which is also not true. I don't have another card that I can link to apple pay so not sure what to do.

The method described here several times - of adding an additional card, then deleting the valid but incorrectly shown as expired card, then re-adding that card - works. However, there are two subtleties I have discovered but haven't seen described (or sufficiently emphasized) here: (1) you must re-add your valid card on your device, not on your Mac - the latter (via the Music app) is refusing to validate my card, and (2) you must re-add your valid card using Settings > Wallet and Apple Pay, not Wallet > Add to Wallet. The latter method gives you only a selector UI to choose the year, and it fails. The former method (via Settings) lets you manually enter a 4-digit year (or you can scan your card, which worked for me), and it succeeds.

After update, Apple Pay says my card is expiring, but it is not
