"Your credit card is about to expire" error every time I try to purchase an app in App Store

Whenever I try to make in app purchases I get an error pop up that says “Your credit card is about to expire” and that I need to sign in to update my information. Except my card doesn’t expire until 2027.

I’ve tried resetting my phone, I’ve tried signing out of my Apple ID and back in. I can’t delete and re-add my card because I get an error saying I can’t because I have active subscriptions on the card.

Funnily enough, I canceled my subscriptions on my card thinking I could cancel them, delete and re-add my info and then resubscribe, which I couldn’t do because I got the active subscriptions error again but when I resubmitted my canceled subscriptions they went through just fine.

Also I usually use Face ID to pay, but because of this error, I get asked into sign in to Apple ID instead which is unusual.

Any suggestions? This is so annoying

I’ve had this problem too - started to get emails in the middle of December saying that upcoming subscriptions were going to fail and I should update my payment details - but everything was correct so there was nothing to update. Then yesterday my iTunes Match did indeed fail to renew because the payment failed.

Contacted Apple Support and was fortunate enough to speak to someone who was aware of the cause of this problem. As I understand it, this is an Apple Pay issue where a person’s credit card is linked to Apple Pay. Believe it or not, Apple Pay is not using the credit card expiry date but has a blanket expiry date of December 2023, which is why payments are starting to fail for lots of people.

To fix it, I was told to do the following. Go to Settings->Apple Id->Payment and Shipping and remove the payment method linked to Apple Pay. Then add the card details back as a new payment method but DO NOT LINK it to Apple Pay. The card should then start working again.

I won’t get into the craziness of this or the fact that Apple appear to have sat on this problem since mid-December when they started sending out emails saying upcoming payments were going to fail…..

Does that mean if you cancel any subscription then remove and re-add the card it will work?

I’ve removed card from wallet in settings and re-added it but that failed to solve the problem. There was no option to remove the card from the actual wallet, it could only be removed from settings.

I’m still stuck with this not working. There is clearly an Apple issue here for it to suddenly happen to so many people. We should t need to do anything to “make this work” it should just work without issues.

Same thing for me! i removed my card and re-added it with Chase on the phone verifying and afterwards I still got the error saying it’s about to expire when I try to make a purchase. I had my card replaced last March, so I thought maybe the expiration didn’t transfer over somehow? But I have no issue with purchases in general or otherwise it’s just in certain apps. So annoying! Glad to see it is not just me

This started happening to me today, December 30. While my budget is glad that I cannot spend money, I am upset that this is even happening. I hope that Apple figures it out! I also can’t see my other credit card information through my appleID that I know is in the system because it shows up to automatically fill in when needed. I can’t do anything with the wallet.

Ok. I m having the same issue I changed my user name I removed my card from my account , password turned off my phone turned it back on etc. .. I did that last night. Figured it was some glitch. I checked it again when I woke up . It’s still saying the same **** thing again. Ive been reading some of the comments people saying and yes im unfortunately in the same boat. This is so annoying and apple support can’t really help either. Does anyone know why this is all of a sudden happening ?

None of these methods worked for me. Zero subscriptions… Tried adding another card, removing old card, adding back old card (received same error). Then tried adding another card, removed old card, tried to make purchase (same error with a card I never even used before with Apple). Regardless the card always “about to expire.” Seems the whole thing is just completely broken… Must be Apple’s new Y2K24 bug.
