I have my new phone for a couple of months. I did the update this morning, it completed and now the screen does not respond to open it, or even to power it off. It is fully charged

Try a "forced" restart of your device using these instructions: Put it on charge for at least half an hour, then, keeping it plugged in, use these gestures:
In rapid sequence, press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 10-20 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear, the one with the "slider" to turn the device off included).
If the issue still persists, since your iPhone is still covered by warranty, I suggest that you contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Contact Apple for support and service , or make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> https://locate.apple.com/choose-country-region . After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Same exact thing is happening to me, had an auto update woke up at five in the morning. iPhone Pro Max 15 stuck on the set up screen touch unresponsive. I did multiple force restarts and took it down to my carrier and which they had no idea of what to do being as incompetent as they are. I was forced to schedule an apple care appointment through my nearest Best Buy, which is an extreme hassle because it’s more than two hours away.
The beta program? Does Apple use a certain number of customers phones as a beta program/ test dummy to see how smoothly certain updates go? I’m afraid to update my phone going forward. This was a nightmare between Verizon and Apple. Not knowing well enough, the Verizon tech had me wipe my phone of all my data etc. now certain things aren’t syncing etc.
It’s a program you can opt into that previews upcoming features not on standard updates. The guy couldn’t state if that was the reason or the 17.3 itself. He also said the 10.3 watch iOS is buggy as well so I turned off auto update on everything until they get it sorted out

im not on beta. once updated after got notification, boom! my 15 pro max screen freezed. can only use the buttons.
I Am writing the text on my minor daughter’s behalf, I have the iPhone 15 Pro Max and she has the iPhone 15 Pro. Yesterday I saw she hadn’t updated it, so I updated it, it completed it’s update and restarted. I charged it overnight for today, but then this morning the screen was locked and unresponsive to touch. I have restarted it multiple times, however it’s still unresponsive. What am I supposed to do now?
The apple care people strongly advise against using 3rd party software. It can lock it up further where there’s nothing they can do but charge you for a new replace. Idk about you but I prefer the free fix. Of course it’s your phone to do what you want.
That is a 100% sure Fire way to void your AppleCare warranty/services. It may have worked for you once, but that’s not sure to work for everybody else’s AppleCare/geek squad we’re very clear that’s a good way to lock yourself out of their free services and end up with a refurbished or paid for out of pocket replace. Best of luck.
I get it. I guess I’m just seeing all the other posts from people saying they’re being told they need to get a new phone, being offered refurbished phones, etc., when that’s not necessary at all. So just sharing so people know they have other options. All Apple Configurator does is reinstall iOS, just like it does when it updates, in hopes that it installs correctly and the screen works as it should.
The second time this happened to me had nothing to do with an update though. I turned off auto-update after the first time. It just happened after I turned the phone off and back on. This is a much more widespread issue imo than is being portrayed in this forum.
I have a 15 Pro Max. Owned it only 3 months. After latest IOS update 17.3, screen is unresponsive. Never had any prior issues. Contacted Apple for assistance and they could not resolve. Have an appointment with Best Buy tomorrow. I don’t own a Mac.
Had the same problem after an upgrade. Screen was unresponsive. Tried resetting it multiple times using the volume buttons and side button with no luck. These steps worked like a charm!! Saved me a trip to the apple store
I was about to buy iPhone pro max 1Tb but few people who uses it every day as a home blogger, posted about the camera getting stuck while recording, phone getting overheated, and battery draining faster. They also mentioned t either wait for new model or go for iPhone 14.
Wow....updated mine to 17.4 last night before going to bed. Early this morning it was a brick. Good, I saw your post.
Followed it step by step. After working on it for a few hours, it's now back to where it was. What took longer was forgetting the encrypted backup password. Anything important app like banking, had to re-key in the credentials.
Anyways mitchbee I just wanted to thank you, it saved one **** of a headache.
My 15PM auto updated last night. I am on welcome screen with unresponsive touch, not charging via cable, wireless charging works. When i connect to mac, configurator doesn't detect iphone also phone isn't charging.

We tried that too. :( Cannot even connect the phone to my MacBook. :( this update totally wrecked this device. probably we gonna end up have to take it to the Apple Store. :(
