There are various issues on my iPhone since updating to iOS 17.4.1

This new updates seems to have too many bugs, instead of fix. Wi-Fi won’t work. None of the apps open, just keep getting black screen, phone overheating, draining battery faster than charging, can’t access shared iCloud pictures, can not FaceTime. Safari is just blank page. Restarted Wi-Fi, phone, apps, but NOTHING WORKS!!! Can’t surf at all, games are blank too…. Need immediate fix!!!!

This page may be some help (thanks to MrBill3):

If your iPhone won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

And sometimes typing in the issue you're facing to the search box will turn up solutions.

If you can get back into your phone, so to speak, 9to5Mac reported that Apple released a new version of 17.4.1, but it was only available through a computer. On a Mac, plug the phone into the computer, open a Finder window, and select your iPhone in the side bar. If the side panel isn't showing, go to the View menu and click Show Side Bar. On older Macs you may have to use iTunes, but it is similar. On a Windows computer I believe you either open iTunes or the Apple Devices app, but I'm not familiar with that setup.

Anyway, once you have done that, there should be a "page" for your phone. Choose General from the top row, and there will be a Check for Update button. From there you should be able to update your phone the newer version of 17.4.1.

I updated "over the air" to 17.4.1 and didn't see any problems. But when I saw the article I updated again and my phone went through the whole process, which seems to indicate that this is a different update. Since then it has worked fine, as far as I can see.

9to5Mac reports that the build number for the over-the-air update is 21E236, but the one through a computer is 21E237.

Ok so I’m a fellow frustrated iPhone user who previously had major issues with iMessage and with FaceTime, all these issues popped up as soon as I updated to 17.4.1. I figured out the fix for iMessages not sending and FaceTime not working, I’m still having issues connecting to safari, but here’s how I fixed my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

  1. open the settings app
  2. tap messages
  3. toggle iMessage off
  4. go back to settings
  5. select FaceTime
  6. toggle Facetime off
  7. go back to settings and scroll to the top
  8. toggle on airplane mode (this will turn wifi off)
  9. select wifi
  10. toggle wifi on
  11. go back to settings, select messages
  12. toggle iMessage on
  13. go back to setting, select FaceTime
  14. toggle FaceTime on
  15. then go back to settings, scroll to the top and toggle airplane mode off
  16. if iMessage hasn’t responded yet then you can go back to messages and toggle iMessage back off then back on again and you can do the same for FaceTime if FaceTime is still not working.

i know this sounds repetitious but I can assure you I scoured the internet for an answer and this is the only method that worked for me. Unfortunately I’m still having issues with my internet, but that’s a completely separate issue. Good luck everyone, and I hope that resolves your issues.

Make sure you have a backup of iPhone either to icloud or to computer.

Make sure you have all network password (aka WiFi) written down.

Steps:

setting -- Name-- Icloud --Icloud Drive---Unsync

Make sure IPhone Do not Disturb is not on(Make sure you are not using this part of app.)

Turn on airplane mode

Wait 15sec

Reset phone by using power button and volume up button

Turn on phone

Go to Setting -- General -- Transfer or reset IPhone(Down at the bottom) -- Reset Network Setting

Should be good to go.

If not working still:

Make sure if you updated on iphone you have to update on computer as well. there is an issue if you don't do both.

you need to sync your iphone with the computer. computer may need and update. it will take a while. It is not Complete for some reason may need computer to finish the update on 17.4.1

Last chance:

Back up IPhone before Factory.

While doing a factory Reset make sure your ICloud Drive is off when you do the reset.

Contact apple if all hope is lost.

Updated Working Fix:

This fix is for those with problems with apps like Waze, Books or Files app not loading correctly, freezes or crashes when launch.

  1. Restart the phone.
  2. Quickly go to Settings and disable iCloud Drive Sync.
  3. After few minutes, enable back iCloud Drive Sync.

Now apps like Waze, Books, Voice Recorder will no longer crashes. Files app able to retrieve directories and files instantly. Handoff with Mac works again. Please upvote if this fixes your problem so others may see this working solution.

Check that person’s Find My app. My husband’s phone updated and wiped out everyone in the Find My app and added back in some old phones he had previously listed. I could still see him in the app on my phone, but it could never find him after the update. It never gave me any message that he was no longer sharing either. After we set his Find My app back up it started working again for me.

I also encounter a lot of problems. Some apps like Files and Waze crash for no reason. the only solution that works temporarily is to undo a forced restart but the problem comes back regularly.

The support told me to disconnect and reconnect, to reset all the settings, to reinstall the IOS version 17.4.1 via iTunes, but nothing works, it's very annoying.

Thanks for this. It seems to have solved the problem on my iPhone. I'll have to see if it will work on my iPad. For the last two-plus weeks since installing 17.4.1 on my iPhone and iPad, I have not been able to open a lot of programs. iA Writer, Ulysses, Runestone, Scriptable, Taio, PDF Expert, Documents and others...

Force Restarting would sometimes work on the first attempt to open some of the apps but would fail on the second. Reinstalling apps did not help either.

Initially, upgrading to 21E237 didn't help until after I did a Force Restart.
