There are various issues on my iPhone since updating to iOS 17.4.1

This new updates seems to have too many bugs, instead of fix. Wi-Fi won’t work. None of the apps open, just keep getting black screen, phone overheating, draining battery faster than charging, can’t access shared iCloud pictures, can not FaceTime. Safari is just blank page. Restarted Wi-Fi, phone, apps, but NOTHING WORKS!!! Can’t surf at all, games are blank too…. Need immediate fix!!!!

I recommend this fix. It worked on my iPhone 12. Thank you abovdal !!

”If you can get back into your phone, so to speak, 9to5Mac reported that Apple released a new version of 17.4.1, but it was only available through a computer. On a Mac, plug the phone into the computer, open a Finder window, and select your iPhone in the side bar. If the side panel isn't showing, go to the View menu and click Show Side Bar. On older Macs you may have to use iTunes, but it is similar. On a Windows computer I believe you either open iTunes or the Apple Devices app, but I'm not familiar with that setup.

Anyway, once you have done that, there should be a "page" for your phone. Choose General from the top row, and there will be a Check for Update button. From there you should be able to update your phone the newer version of 17.4.1.

I updated "over the air" to 17.4.1 and didn't see any problems. But when I saw the article I updated again and my phone went through the whole process, which seems to indicate that this is a different update. Since then it has worked fine, as far as I can see.

9to5Mac reports that the build number for the over-the-air update is 21E236, but the one through a computer is 21E237.”

You must first make a backup of the iPhone in iTunes. Next, unplug the sync cable.

Then you have to press and hold the on/off button and at the same time plug in the synchronization cable.

A computer and cable appear on the iPhone

On iTunes a message to start the restoration appears, you must start the restoration and follow the procedure

I think it's safest to do this with an Apple advisor.

Yeah, I'm having to head to the Apple store for my phone. My wife and I both have a 14 plus. Both of our phones did the update overnight. Hers works fine, mine doesn't. It's pretty useless right now. Horrible update, one of the worst I've encountered in over 13 years. Booooo. I've tried everything tech "support" has recommended, multiple times and nothing works.

THANK YOU Lobsterghost1!!!!

When I picked up my phone this morning after the iOS update to 17.4.1 happened on Friday, my phone screen was crazy looking! Some of the apps weren't showing but the notification numbers were still visible. When I clicked in the "blank" space where the app was, it opened but didn't stay there once I closed it. Then some apps wouldn't open at all; I couldn't find my saved bookmarks in Safari; my backup to restore from iCloud wasn't showing as an option... It was VERY FRUSTRATING and I wanted to cry!

I searched everywhere for info, help and suggestions, to no avail until I saw your message. The FORCE RESET returned my home screen buttons to normal and they appear to be working correctly so far. And the bookmarks tab is back where it needed to be as well. Yay!!

The 30 open tabs I had in Safari appear to be gone as well, but I can live with that. I found a tip that says if you press and hold on the plus sign like you're going to open a new tab, that will give you your recent tab history.

I wanted to share my experience with others and hope that it can help someone else like you helped me! :-)

Yesterday, I had the same issue after update ios 17.4.1, my iPad air seemed like it was processing too much in the background and seized up. I tried the forced restart thing, and it helped a little. So I forced another restart, and another, 6 in total. And amazingly, my iPad is working super and fast now.

Apparently, don't stop with just one forced restart if your device is still sluggish or struggling after just one. It can't hurt to try more. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I suspect there are several different issues/bugs with various devices/configurations, but mine primarily involves iCloud dropping connection with my iPhone 14 Pro Max, leading to abnormal behavior in apps such as freezing or crashing.

Below are some bugs that won’t be solved by restarting or resetting Network settings or install the newer build via mac as mentioned by others. It will work again after restarting for few minutes and then problems happen again:

• Waze freezes on the loading screen.

• Files continuously fail to retrieve directory files and folders.

• Voice Recorder crashes when tapping on the three dots.

• Downloaded books cause the Books app to crash when tapped.

I’ll update if I discover more issues.

Temporary working fix:

Tested for all the above bugs - Restart the phone then quickly go and disable iCloud Drive Sync.

Until Apple fixes the actual issues, this will be the solution currently in order for me to use apps like Waze without needing to restart my phone each time.

Make sure you have a backup of iPhone either to icloud or to computer.

Make sure you have all network password (aka WiFi) written down.

Steps:

setting -- Name-- Icloud --Icloud Drive---Unsync

Make sure IPhone Do not Disturb is not on(Make sure you are not using this part of app.)

Turn on airplane mode

Wait 15sec

Reset phone by using power button and volume up button

Turn on phone

Go to Setting -- General -- Transfer or reset IPhone(Down at the bottom) -- Reset Network Setting

Should be good to go.

If not working still:

Make sure if you updated on iphone you have to update on computer as well. there is an issue if you don't do both.

you need to sync your iphone with the computer. computer may need and update. it will take a while. It is not Complete for some reason may need computer to finish the update on 17.4.1

Last chance:

Back up IPhone before Factory.

While doing a factory Reset make sure your ICloud Drive is off when you do the reset.

Contact apple if all hope is lost.
