Bought a used phone from neighbor. Attempting to update ios to 17.4.1 from 17.1. Downloaded successfully but now stuck on preparing update....
What should I do?

You can try and delete the downloaded update and to download it again. See this on how to do that

Yes! Left the update overnight. Woke up with phone switched off due to running out of battery, after recharging and turning back on saw update is still stuck to ‘preparing update’.
This worked for me on a PC. Must have ITunes on your PC. It did take a half hour but it worked. Thanks.

I'm trying the technique to download the update on my PC and have it update that way, but the update download is taking forever too. Not sure where to go from here.

I'm trying to do this, but I don't see where you click General in Finder when it's plugged in.

Have same issue going from iPhone 12 to 14. Stuck on preparing, reset phone twice and started all over. Connected to PC and didn’t work.
Having the exact same issue. Trying to set up a 15 pro max and the phone will not get past the first step of the update. And can’t access anything on the phone to bypass.
What do you do if you don’t have a Mac book?
