Apple CarPlay Not Working in iOS 18.0

This was happening to me as well! So frustrating! Today I did the update to the iOS 18.1 and was hopeful. I plugged my phone in again with the cord & the screen went blank again 🥲 then, I unpaired my vehicles Bluetooth and re paired it and so far it hasn’t done it since!!! Fingers crossed! Try it & see if it works for you.

I turned my wifi and bluetooth off and it finally worked

Did exactly as you instructed, turned off Voice Control in settings and fixed everything.

Turn off vocal shortcuts and it will fix it.

Turn off "Vocal Shortcuts" see if that helps. It fixed mine.

Turn off the vocal shortcuts and it will fix your issue.

Someone on this board suggested I turn off “Vocal Shortcuts”. It solved this issue for me.

mkrabill, the exact same thing happened to me using Apple Car Play with my Lexus after updating to iOS 18. My wife's phone still works normally in the Lexus using iOS 17. I ended up following a YouTube video and reverting back to iOS 17, and voila, my phone works with Apple Car Play in the Lexus once again. On the flip side I did not have a backup on my Mac/iTunes of my phone with iOS 17 so I lost all my data/settings etc. I'm working through that issue now as I do have a backup on my iCloud but is with iOS 18. Anyway, I hope I can get everything working normally again.

Turning off Vocal Shortcuts works for me.

The other thing to try- my phone now has a VPN more work requires in order to use email and teams- now that I have that enabled- if I'm using express VPN on top of that- closing is seems to allow carplay to work.

Did that whole jazz doesn’t work. Did everything imaginable, however, turning off voice shortcuts, as suggested by another person fixed my issue, except for the lag using the wireless adapter. Still a little bit quirky at 95% spot on.

Mine is working now. My issue was CarPlay no longer working wirelessly. After trying all the suggestions on here, I sat in my car - pressing all options! I tried to use my car as a hotspot (I have no data plan active). My phone connected and told me there was no internet. I turned off the WiFi connection on the car’s screen. I then went back to trying to connect my phone to CarPlay. The CarPlay screen on the car said I needed to use the car’s WiFi and to press okay to do so. I pressed the okay button and hallelujah! Wireless CarPlay connected. So, it was something to do with needing to refresh my car’s system WiFi???

I was having the apply CarPlay music issue when plugged in. Tried to forget CarPlay and reconnect, didn’t work. What finally worked is doing a hard reset on my phone while plugged in (don’t know if being plugged into the car during is required or not, it just was at the time)

I have an iPhone 13, updated to iOS 18. Hit volume up, volume down, hold down power button until the screen goes black (in that sequence)

phone will come back on, and when I unlocked with passcode music was back to normal.

Turning off Vocal Shortcuts (Settings > Accessibility>Vocal Shortcuts) worked. My problem was that sirusxm, AM, FM radio wouldn't work AND my 2025 Honda CRV indicated that Voice Control was on and I was unable to turn it off. Maps, Audiobooks were working fine. I had turned my Vocal Shortcuts on shortly after IOS 18 update due to the new feature to create commands based on voice commands. So I guess I cannot use that new feature until Apple fixes the problem.
