iPhone 16 wireless charging issues

Am experiencing significant issues when using the wireless charging pad in my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Will briefly charge with the blue light, then after 30 seconds to perhaps a minute, it goes flashing red. This did not happen with my previous iPhone 11 Pro Max. I suspect the raised lip around the camera is the problem, as the phone can never lie completely flat against the charging pad. Anyone else experiencing this sort of issue? Thanks!

iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 18

I agree- first time I have ever been disappointed with a new iPhone purchase. My iPhone 16 doesn’t work with any wireless charger (including my 24 Subaru). It starts charging but stops after 30 seconds. If I pick up the phone and place it back on the wireless charger it will connect and charge but the stop after another 15-30 seconds. Wish I had not changed from my iPhone 12

The simple fact of the matter is that going from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to an iPhone 16 Pro Max, with the same vehicle & charging pad, exhibits a significant degradation in performance when using the charging pad. This should not happen when spending $1200 on a new Apple product. Furthermore, the attitude of your answer is cavalier and condescending. Very disappointing. The next phone after 13 years of iPhones may need to be Android.

I have the same issue when charging on my home charger. I leave it overnight on the charger assuming it will reach 100% by the morning but it doesn't! I noticed sometimes at midnight my charger light starts blinking between green and blue, none stop and the iPhone is not charging.

I guess this started after ios update to 18.0.1

I have just purchased an iPhone 16 pro and have bought a case for it that has MagSafe built in. However, it won’t change in my car charging pad and probably never will as the camera bump means my phone won’t lie flat to make contact with the car pad. It works ok on the little flat disc that plugs into the electric, but wanted to just it into the pocket with the charging pad where no cables are required. Apple obviously haven’t thought this out very well. My previous iPhone 12 worked fine, but now I’ve upgraded it won’t work. Upgrading is suppose to improve the service, but Apple have fallen short here ☹️😩

I just unboxed and activated my new iPhone 16 Pro. I have been using a 30W magnetic charging stand with a small enough puck that it connects directly to the back of the phone and the iPhone 16 Pro will still exhibit the same behavior that is being described here. It attempts to charge for about 30 seconds and then disconnects from the charger. Being that it is magnetically coupled, it eventually re-establishes the charge attempt and repeats the process all over again.

I did not have an opportunity to try it with iOS 18.0 since I just activated today. This is extremely disappointing. I have yet to use the one in my car, but I suspect it will also fail to work as this appears to be a software issue from what some of you are saying.

Apple, please do better. This is absolute nonsense for how much you charge for these devices.

I having the same issue. On my bedside wireless charger. Thought the issue was my case but have been taking out off the last week and it starts to charge and my morning it’s not charged at all.

I’ve tried taking it on and off through the night and each time it shows it’s charging but then it seems to stop.

apple really need to sort this.

This is definitely NOT related to the camera bump. I'm comparing a 15pro with a 16pro on the dual wireless pad of a BYD car. Both have iOS 18.2. At the same time it took a 15 pro to go from 48% to 80%, the 16 Pro managed to charge by only +4%. These two phones have a very similar form factor so it's definitely not the camera bump's fault.

Mine has trouble on every magnetic charger I have tried it with. I can’t stand plugging it in at night to the charger it came with so it charges on my bedside magnetic a little at night-usually up to 65% or so, then I have it on other magnetic chargers all day until it finally gets to 100%. I thought this one was supposed to work BETTER universally. I find it extremely disappointing and I wish I had not gotten rid of my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Hi everyone,

same for me in the wireless charging pad of my BMW 3 series. Just bought an iPhone 16 Pro as upgrade from 12 Pro. Every single iPhone I've had so far has been charging properly and since I have the 16 Pro it doesn't work anymore.

Without a protecting case it charges properly, but as soon as you put a case it doesn't work anymore (and I've spent so far 150$ on 2 different cases, I even filed the objectives protection bump on one of them to bring the phone closer to the pad)... this is not ok.

It must be the raised objectives, as without a case, when charging, if you raise your phone by 1 mm it stops charging... so with a likely 1 mm thick case + some minor distance added by the objectives protection bump it's apparently sufficient to prevent the phone from charging.

By the way, charging works though with the case on my nightstand wireless charger...

Really really annoying for the car as it is really practical and very well integrated in my BMW...

Isn't there anything on software side that Apple could do to make the coils more sensitive or anything in that direction?

I have had my iphone 16 for two months and I thought it was me! I have tried two different cases but both present the same problem in the car and on my charging pads. My next step was to try a smaller charging pads but this means replacing this in 4 spots. I am so annoyed and have never hated an iphone so much right now. New phone and I have the same battery life as my xr.

I have exact same problem. This is not related to phone case or car chargers not being flat. 100% Apple issue. I also have iPhone 16 Pro Max. It fails to charge wirelessly. Issues with the Apple internal parts? I took it to Apple Store and they are “fixing it” now. I will see what happens. I have upgraded from iPhone 15 Pro Max. Looks like I made a wrong decision. I can see that so many people have same exact problem. Mine failed to charge on home wireless chargers. With or without a case, the only way to charge the phone is by using a direct cable. So disappointing for a phone that costs over $1,300. Someone needs to take action to resolve this issue. I have verify with different wireless chargers exact same problem. My wife’s iPhone 15 pro works fine on wireless chargers. iPhone 16 Pro defected 100%!

Spend what you like on phones and purchase from whom you wish that’s the advantage of a free market. Cavalier attitudes and condescending voices are the domain of car manufacturers who for decades have forced design changes down the public’s throat. Now that the tables turned they continue to pour out mediocre products with average costs approaching $50K. If wireless charging is so important to you choose your vehicles more wisely.
