New USB-C Magic Keyboard and Trackpad are not working correctly

Looks like they've updated the tech specs to reflect:

USB-C Magic Keyboard/Trackpad are only compatible with MacOS Sonoma 15.1+

Very sad this isn't included as a patch for 14.X to allow basic functionality like TouchID, especially for those of us on enterprise managed systems. I mean look – I get it – backwards compatibility can be synonymous with a lot of bad words, but also, ****.

Received my USB-C Magic Keyboard w/TouchID & keypad and Magic Trackpad. Was on 15.0.1 and had the issues everyone else described. Updated to 15.1 and all fixed. (I'm on MacBook Pro M1 Pro 14")

Exactly. The problem is solved with 15.1. I don't have to return it after all, thanks Apple, that was quick.

Same problem, Magic Trackpad USB-C is not working correctly on Ventura 13.7.2.

It's frustrating as even Linux got a patch to get it to work. All it takes is adding the device ID (0x0324) to the trackpad driver:

Apple just needs to release an updated driver. It's something Apple has done before: Download Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0 - Apple Support (SG)

Running 15.0.1 with same problem using gestures. The trackpad did connect using bluetooth. "trackpad" in settings goes away when the new device is turned on and comes back when the lightning trackpad is turned back on.

I can confirm that these peripherals work correctly on my personal Mac running 15.1. Waiting to see what our IT department says about when I'll be able to update. Apparently CrowdStrike (ugh) had an issue with 15.0 and so IT blocked updates.

The latest release of mac OS has handlers for the trackpad which now works as it should. That was a fast response by Apple.

I have this problem too. It's a work machine, so I can't upgrade past 14.7.1 until our company's security software is marked as compliant.

Hopefully someone finds a solution to this - otherwise I will have no choice but to return these items.

Also in this boat. I can use these on my personal machine running 10.15, but my company is on 10.14 and won't allow us to upgrade until they update our internal software, and that can take up to 6 months sometimes. I truly hope this gets fixed as a bug on older versions of macOS. There's no indication when you buy it that it doesn't work with earlier versions of macOS—in fact it says on the tech specs that it works on macOS 10.11 or later. And it's a keyboard and trackpad. It should just work!

i have an ipad 13 m4, nano, we got a new usb c keyboard, from apple, short version, no fingerprint, connecting via bt reported an error, then it connected, but the upper whole keyboard (brightness, sound ….. does not work), nothing helps , on tablet ipad 2022 and ipad pro, 11, m2 works !!!! Otherwise, all keyboards from other companies (Hp) work on the m4 tablet, including the top bars

I'm so relieved to find this thread and learn I'm not the only one. I've been troubleshooting my new Magic Trackpad for days now. I'm on a 2017 iMac and the highest macOS version running on it is Ventura (13.7.1). I checked and according to the trackpad's specs it should support this version. But from what I read here ...

I guess I'll try and buy an 'old' lightning Magic Trackpad 2 and see it that does the trick. If it does, I can return this one.

I'm in the same boat. I just bought the USB-C trackpad and I cant get any of the gestures to work with my iPad Pro gen 2. I'm on iOS 17.7 and my iPad cant be updated to iOS 18. Is anyone who has the new trackpad connected to an iPad having the same issue?

Just to share my experience, my MacBook Pro is a company-managed device and I am running on macOS Sonoma 14.7.1. (and cannot upgrade any further).

I am having the same experience that a lot of you are describing. My USB-C Magic Trackpad seems to be connecting as a mouse and I am unable to use any of the great trackpad gestures (like scrolling, pinch to zoom, etc.) that I am used to. I can connect via BT, but all I can do so far is just point and click with it and that's pretty much it.

same problem here, I have a intel MacBook Pro 16" running Ventura 13.7.

I use an expensive music scoring program that don't work on newer Os's .

So this computer is not going to be updated beyond 13.

No gestures or tap to click is working on my trackpad.

I expected some backwards compatibility.

It would be nice to be able to use my new trackpad both on my locked down music computer and on my m2 work programming computer.
