Apple News Fails to Load After iOS 18.2 Installation

Apple News fails to load after iOS 18.2 install on 7 Gen iPad. Tried deleting and reinstalling news app, resetting network settings, pausing VPN, and a full reset, all without success. Any tips would be appreciated.

So ... I have been able to get it to work after 18.2.1 on 7th Gen iPad [partially!]. Following some of the previous recommendations, here are the steps:

  • Turn off Apple News in iCloud
  • Remove the app and choose to delete the data
  • Restart the iPad
  • Re-download the app ...... but before you open it again .... turn off your wifi
  • Open the News app. It will tell you it is not connected to the internet
  • Turn on your wifi again ... the app should start syncing and load up
  • DO NOT turn iCloud News again, this recreates the spinning problem

This gives you a working install of News+, but without the syncing across devices. You can re-select magazine again and enter subscriptions etc. I've been through this cycle a couple of times (I made the mistake of turning News on again in iCloud the first time) and it looks to be repeatable. Not ideal, but if it works for you, at least you have got some of your functionality back. Good luck!

Ridiculous.

I'm hopeful the 18.3 update will work. So far it seems ok, and I'll renew my subscription if it works past about 2 days (another poster said their 18.2.1 update only worked for 36 hours).

I literally tried everything except the downgrade - that was a step too far to ask any typical user to do for a PAID subscription (as a former iPhone Jailbreaker, I know how much work that can be). Leaving the app running in the background as some others said worked did not work for me on my 7th gen iPad.

The whole point of the subscription was so I could enjoy it on the larger format of my iPad - sure, it worked on the phone, but, that wasn't good enough.

I thank everyone who cancelled their subscriptions and put in complaints - the 18.3 update seemed to have worked. I put in some complaints and did some live chats as well, providing them links to these forums via the chat. Fingers crossed it 'just works' now - money talks, bs walks. Again, thank you everyone because you know it was bigger than this forum indicated.

The problem seems to be a bad update to 18.2. I chatted with Tech support and (here's the funny part) they said it was an App problem and I should contact the app supplier. It took 3 attempts to get him to understand that Apple News is an Apple App. All he could do is get a real tech to phone me. Like others here, I can get it to work only if I delete and reinstall the News App. But it fails the following morning.

I just upgraded to iPadOS 18.2 last night, and just tried to open the News app this morning and was frustrated because it would not open. My wife, who upgraded as well, does not experience the problem on her iPad.

I searched online for "iPadOS 18.2 news app not working" and -- lo and behold -- this thread was the first hit. I saw the comments referring to iPad Gen 7, and a quick check of the settings confirmed that that is my model. My wife's is a later one, go figure. So I am cursed like the rest of you. LOL!

I'm glad to know I am not he only one, although I am not too happy to know that it has been going on for over a week and still not solution is in place.

I tried all suggestions mentioned here, and none of them worked. Unfortunately, I too have an Apple News+ subscription, so that's adds insult to injury.

Thank you all who provided context of the problem, suggestions, and feedback from Apple Support.

I'm off to open a support ticket with them now ... wish me luck! (Eek!)

Got my refund approved!

It is supposed to “just work”.

It’s been a month now, let them know from your wallet that you’re not going to spend your valuable time downgrading, force restarting, doing a pirouette, whatever, to pay them for a news congregation service when there are others that are free (!), yes with ads, but not with aggravation. Ask for that refund.
