Calling from Yosemite does not work at all. It attempts a call using iPhone but then it say "Call failed" / "Try Again" Anyone has a cure?

EDIT: Yes I am on WiFi. Both the phone and the computer are on the same WiFi. iPhone is running iOS8...

I think it requires iOS 8.1. Gonna have to wait till Monday.

Yup I'm having a similar problem to you all. Here's my situation:

- iPhone 5s (iOS 8.1) with AT&T and Macbook Air (mid 2012, OS X Yosemite)

- Handoff works great

- Phone call Continuity does not work

- If I try to make a call from my macbook air (e.g. contacts card with little blue phone icon [not face time]), the little black box for FaceTime phone calls on the top right appears and says "(Contact Name) ..... Using Your iPhone" with the option for Video (grayed out), Mute, and End. But almost immediately afterwards will say Call Failed with the option to Close or Retry

- I had an incoming call once that went to my macbook air, I actually didn't answer because it was inconvenient to at the time. Although I've had other incoming calls on my iphone, none went to my macbook air except that one time. Weird.

- It seems that Phone call Continuity is established and wants to function up until actually initiating a call.

- Typical settings are all correct, to my knowledge (i.e. FaceTime, iCloud, Apple ID, Allow iPhone Cellular Calls, WiFi network) and have tried signing in/out, restarting, and in different chronological order.

- Called Apple Support, spoke to 3 different people, two of which knew very little about Apple (e.g. asked me if my device was a 'Mac Air', asked me to turn on airplane mode on my laptop device, asked me to turn on airplane mode on the iPhone which I was using to call him....). The third asked me to wait for iOS 8.1, which hasn't helped.

- Went to Apple Store, they couldn't figure it out and said they'd elevate it to an Apple Engineer and I was suppose to hear back today, but have not.

I'm basically at a wits end. This is nuts. Over a function that I probably won't use a lot. But it's the principal of the thing, it's supposed to work! Hahah. I'm glad I'm not alone in this problem. Hopefully a fix can be found.

What actually fixed it for me was found in this thread can’t make phone call on my mac from yosemite from contacts

Quoting "In System Preferences/Security Privacy/Firewall/Options, one must select Automatically Allow Signed Software to Receive Incoming Connections..If you have Block All Incoming Connections except those..... Selected, your Mac will not be able to "receive" a return signal from your iPhone. Curious I know because you can "receive" incoming calls... This solved my issue.."

Just spent 45 minutes again on return call from TIER 2 MAC support. I sent over diagnostic files yesterday and their engineers are reviewing them. IMAC Late 2012 fails incoming and outgoing calls. They do show up on computer. Everything else is working with IOS 8.1 Handoff and Continuity. My late 2013 IMAC is working with everything.

Problem is definitely related to hardware of late Imac 2012 and some 2013 Macs. Apple said according to what they see with hardware it should work but they are stumped why it doesn't. Based on all the posts on the internet it is obviously a bug for many. It is going to take awhile for Apple to release a patch to fix it. All the posts with solutions have failed and ARE NOT THE ANSWER if you have set everything up correctly so avoid wasting your time with them.

According to Tier 2 support ignore all posted fixes until Apple releases patch to fix bug for IMAC...IT IS NOT AN IPHONE PROBLEM!

This solved my problem of not being able to make calls from my MB Pro (Mid 2012) running Yosemite through my iPhone 6 Plus running 8.1:

Do and check everything written here in this thread. Log out from FaceTime on all devices (Macs and iOS). Restart all devices. Log in again. For the first time my mobile number was shown in the FaceTime preferences on my Mac. And I was able to make calls from my Mac and iPad through my iPhone.

Yeah, Yves
