Carplay in Honda not working with new IOS 11.2.5

My new car no longer recognizes my device as plugged in since I upgraded yesterday morning. So frustrating not to be able to use a feature I chose the car for. Will this be fixed or is there a way I can remove the update?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 11.2.5

After ignoring this issue for some time I did some research the other night and came across this article: iOS 11/11.1/11.2/11.3 CarPlay Not Working - How to Fix.

One of the tips is, "Tip 4. Check your Restrictions - Open Settings app > Tap General > Restrictions > Enter your passcode > Find CarPlay and turn it off.

When I checked my settings Carplay was already turned off. I went ahead and disabled restrictions altogether. The next time I got in the car, CarPlay fired right up.

Hope it works for you.

Hi - Had similar issue with my 2015 Honda Civic and was only able to listen through my phone via the bluetooth option. What I discovered is that this was the result of me previously deleting the Apple' Music app. For whatever reason the mid-April update blocked other music geared app from being recognized through the USB port. If you reinstall the app and setup your Apple ID, the USB port will resume accepting Spotify, Sirius , etc.

Im still trying to figure out how to disable the Apple Music from playing during initial plug-in. This annoyance started during an update in February-March and is the original reason for deleting the app from my phone.

I wasn't able to connect to CarPlay in my VW either after updating to 11.2.5. My car didn't seem to recognize that a device was connected. I tried restarting the phone, resetting the car infotainment system, and different lightning cables, but nothing worked. I just got it working again today after going into the settings menu in my car and selecting the CarPlay/App-Connect settings. I plugged in my phone while in the CarPlay settings, and it finally recognized my phone and seems to be able to connect without problems now. I don't know if your Honda has a similar settings menu, but I just thought I'd share my experience in case it is helpful.

Hello there Ajchrishon,

It sounds like CarPlay is not working since you updated your phone. The following section of this article should help you get that back up and running:

Set up CarPlay with your iPhone

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

We bought our 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport in January, 2018. In the last 4 months Apple CarPlay has worked a total of one week.

Here are the steps we have taken:

~ Consulted with Apple Care

~ Use original Apple iPhone cord to connect.

~ Update iPhone ios

~ Soft reset on phone

~ Factory ReSet on car Infotainment system

(This keeps it working for only short time)

~ Put in an online repair “ticket” with Honda 3x

~ Spoke with Honda In-Car Technology 2x

~ Registered complaint w Honda Automobile

Customer Service. Betty had me take car into

local dealership.

~ Service manager noted CarPlay “saw” my phone

(icon lit up), but wouldn’t allow to “connect”. It

did not work with his iPhone or cable either, so

he asked service techs to look at it.

~ Within hours service tech said: it is a “known

issue” with Honda. They are working on it; there

is no fix available. Do not replace unit, as won’t

work. As temporary fix they disconnected /

reconnecte battery cable.

~ This temporary fix worked for 5 minutes.

~ Spoke again with Automobile Customer Service.

Options are to wait on Honda to resolve this or

start a proceeding regarding car (Lemon Law?).

I finally have breakthrough with getting my Apple CarPlay to work in my 2018 Honda Accord.

Two weeks ago there was an update to our Honda software, which we downloaded from our home WiFi, and installed.

For the next two weeks it worked every time.

The one thing we avoided, as an experiment, was we did not have my husband’s phone enabled for Bluetooth.

After two weeks, we enabled his phone for Bluetooth >> and THAT caused my iPhone to NOT be able to use Apple CarPlay.

I redid the Factory reset- eliminating his Bluetooth connection, and Apple CarPlay is now working on my iPhone again.

Hope this helps someone.

BTW - Honda Automobile Customer Service gave me a nice “loyalty card” for my trouble dealing with this CarPlay issue. Loving my new all weather car & trunk mats, especially now that CarPlay is finally working!

I also have a 2018 Honda Accord and was sold on just using CarPlay with my iPhone instead of paying $1000 more for the Honda Navigation by the salesperson.

What a load of crap.

Carplay works for a short time then stops recognizing the iPhone.

Honda people tell me “techs are working on a fix” blah blah blah.

The only thing that does work, every time, is restoring a Honda settings to factory defaults.

Then I have to reset all my other light settings, Siriusxm stations, etc just to use CarPlay again.

Fed up that both Honda and Apple CANNOT solve this issue.

I am also having a similar issue... well the closest I could find to my issue. I recently upgraded from a 6s Plus running 11.0.1 to an 8 Plus that came with 11.2.5. I was running my old phone pretty consistently by connecting it to my Chevy Volt’s USB connection to connect to the iPod feature. One thing that stopped my old phone in the past from being recognized by my car as an audio device was that with the update, it kept offloading the Music app since I only use Spotify. In order for the phone to be recognized as an iPod it must have at least one song on it and by offloading it, the song I kept on it just to be able to use Spotify in my car was no longer actually on my phone.

This does not seem to be my current problem though, as if I restart the phone completely before each time I connect it to the cord it will play. If I don’t, it just looks for it for forever. I hope someone has a real fix for this!
