iPhone X wifi issues

I've got this new iPhone X since November 7th. From day one, Wifi would toggle on and off causing phone to not respond to commands once every 3 days or so. This has been happening more frequently now than before. It used to happen once every 3 days and I'd have to try the hardest (phone was very slow responding to commands when it happens) to power the phone off and power it back up again. It would then act normal for another 2 - 3 days. This is annoying now as it happens once every 24 hours or so. I've tried everything including resetting the phone, restoring it from backup, etc. This, I now honestly believe, is a hardware issue, similar to the wifi button grayed out issue with iPhone 4. I have had almost every generation of iPhones and they are generally reliable but now this is getting very annoying. My wife has the same exact phone and it does not give her the same issues. Will Apple please look into this and help me resolve this sooner than later please. Thank you.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5, 256G

I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple store and thank goodness I got an employee who knew his stuff! I let him know about the whole issue I was having with my WIFI at home and how I was trying the WIFI at the apple store and I was not having any issues like I have at home.

The first thing he asked me was what kind of router I had (I have Uverse Internet so ATT provided me with their router), he said there are two WIFI frequencies you router broadcasts and did I know which one I was connected to? I said I have no clue, I just sign in to my WIFI network name and put in the password.

He said your router has two WIFI frequencies, one is 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The iPhone X is the first iPhone that has to use 5GHz frequency (if it uses the 2.4 GHz frequency, it will work but cause it to drop, but the phone stays connected to that radio frequency). He ran a diagnostic on my iPhone and said my phone is fine. He asked if my WIFI network name was the same or different name regarding 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I checked my router's info, and it has the same name. He said I would have to name the 5 GHz different from the 2.4 GHz cause my iPhone connects to the first available network (2.4 GHz - since both frequencies were named the same thing, I couldn't tell which one it was connecting to). I renamed my 5 GHz and up until this point, everything is working fine and have had no WIFI dropping issue with my iPhone!

I told them that guy who helped me out deserves a **** bonus!!! I hope you guys understood what I am saying, if not let me know, I will try to explain it better.

But this should RESOLVE the issues we are experiencing with WIF dropping.

Following this thread with similar wifi-dropping issues I have to add my new testing procedure that leadme to believe that is probably and mainly a s/w issue (in combination with the h/w). After testing many frustrating remedies as discussed in previous posts I ended even to re-enable wifi assist mode , because I rely a lot on my phone and have an "unlimited" data plan. Nevertheless loosing wifi is not an option, especially when travelling to strange countries!

So today in my office sitting next to the wifi (airport with older time machine) my phone declares 4G connection.

1. going to the settings on the phone first page shows in wifi section the name of the previously known AP.

2. Hitting the wifi subsetting the switch is off or even greyed. Phone still says 4G.

3. Just looking the screen the wifi "tries" to switch on by itself!

4. being patient enough the switch might turn on. If I try to help it by switching on, occasionally the whole setting app might crash.

5. Eventually the wifi will turn on as the neworks browser at the bottom of the wifi screen too.

6. This is the tricky part: the 4G is still declared as the network.

7. Now with the wifi showing as working on the settings but not as the network for the phone , I switch off the wifi.

8. Then switching on the wifi establishes the wifi as the network connection correctly this time.

Ok you think that the story is over? No. The wifi goes from full signal to dot loosing the connection over and over, but not declaring 4G as the network connection on the top anymore. One step closer but not quite.

9. What do I forgot? Just go on the app switcher and kill settings app!

10. Phone works!

I have not tested the procedure extensively, but may prove that is a mostly s/w issue between processes running under the hood under poor timing.

And therefore I am inclined to believe that based on all the posts in this thread that is a more widespread issue that one might think. Is it possible that many others do not even realize that their phones are flawed?

Same here, the issue got slowly more and more frequent and now its continuous. Why no fix !?!

Because the problem is with your phone. Apple can't fix your phone without seeing it. Make a genius bar appointment if your own troubleshooting steps, which have been posted many times in the hundred or so posts in this thread, don't fix it.

I was on the phone with Apple Support two days ago and had a lengthy discussion. They did not have an answer for me except sending me to my local Apple Store. I went yesterday and the tech said to do a firmware wipe and reset which was done at the store. Today, after 24 hours, the problem recurs. I firmly believe it is a hardware issue; it is more than likely a faulty WiFi module. The tech did say yesterday and notated in my case file that if the firmware reset did not do the trick, he was to replace a new phone for me for free. I’ll see him either tomorrow or Sunday. I’ll report back if a new phone has been given to me for my faulty phone.

Apple has finally swapped a new phone for me. They assured me it is not a refurbished phone that they gave me for my old iPhone X that has these wifi toggling problems. I have had the new phone for a few days and then the issue resurfaced. Same exact problem. Only this time the problem is more serious. One time it caused the screen to black out completely. I tried all sorts of buttons and it would take selfies and make sounds and Siri even comes on only with the screen completely blacked out. So what I did was wiping the phone again and setting it up as a new phone. It's been about 48 hours and so far so good. I'll continue to report back with updates.

I have the same issue with my X that manifests itself visually by turning the three leve radio signal of the wifi "strength"on the top, to just level of one. When this happens, opening the settings->wifi the togle switch is greyed. The strange thing I noticed is that even you cannot seem to be able to flip the switch, it tries every to switch itself on at random amount of time ranging between 3s to 10s even 20s but if you are patient enough it eventually turns on correctly by itself! So it gives the normal browser of networks, and never switches off if you remain on the wifi settings page. When the page is closed and return to the main page or any app, the wifi problem returns. This behaviour is consistent and happens at any setting tried even eliminating data connection, or disabling other wifi features.

Trying this again, lost my first post...

I noticed my wifi issues when my cellular usage shot through the roof. When I dug into the usage, it was Facebook and Linkedin chewing up data. This was odd because I usually only look at them at my house, where they should be on wifi. When I switched those the wifi only, I finally noticed the problems.

First it would be connected to my Video network, but I would have intermittent connectivity issues. I would have to jump over to another network, sometimes multiple times before I would be able to have internet conectivity. This would really show up when I turn off cellular at home. Sometimes, when joining a known network, it would say the password was incorrect, so I would retype it and it said incorrect password. I would then use another wifi network for a few moments, come back , and it would connect to Video just fine.

I have ordered a new XFi router and XPods to replace my Netgear router and UniFi Mesh network to see if that helps. Sounds like I need to hit up the Apple Store as well.

I cannot be optimistic about that. But by the heat in this discussion, I take that there should be a fair amount of iPhone X that experience this wifi issue. If you connect to your mac and open the console app you will see a fair amount of errors related to the issue. So whether is a h/w issue or just s/w the messages manifest that it is known to the s/w of the phone and depending on your settings even sent to Apple as the preference app crashes qite often if you play with the wifi switch.

The iPhone X has many differences in h/w to other iphones that dictate that this phone it is not just another step in the line but an evolution (that may went wrong). It has an OLED screen, and probably different energy management algorithm and respective h/w than other iPhone. Have you noticed the reversible but severe screen dimming and processor slowing when it gets hot?. No other recent phone I have tried does exactly the same.

The rumors that X may be discontinued over other models does not seem promising for resolving the issue for just a small(?) percentage of devices.

My shiny new X is also dealing with this issue. But I upgraded from a 5S and come to think of it, I may have had the same issue with that phone which leads me to agree with everyone about it being an issue inside an app or the iOS that got migrated onto the new X. It was an old phone nearing it's expiration so I just brushed it off as that. Old phone. But it's incredibly frustrating that this is happening with a new phone. Something simple like needing to connect quickly while traveling and having your phone on airplane mode is now troublesome. Waiting for the toggle to be usable again or for the list of wifi options to make itself available.

Just out of curiosity, when you guys click wifi in control center, do you find that it's not reflecting in the settings>wifi?

Also, I have tried a network setting reset and "forget network" numerous times and the bloody phone keeps remembering the networks and all the passwords. This seems to be the go to solution recommended by Apple Support and it doesn't fix my toggle/connectivity/dropped connection issue at all, on top of not serving it's function.
