iPhone X wifi issues

I've got this new iPhone X since November 7th. From day one, Wifi would toggle on and off causing phone to not respond to commands once every 3 days or so. This has been happening more frequently now than before. It used to happen once every 3 days and I'd have to try the hardest (phone was very slow responding to commands when it happens) to power the phone off and power it back up again. It would then act normal for another 2 - 3 days. This is annoying now as it happens once every 24 hours or so. I've tried everything including resetting the phone, restoring it from backup, etc. This, I now honestly believe, is a hardware issue, similar to the wifi button grayed out issue with iPhone 4. I have had almost every generation of iPhones and they are generally reliable but now this is getting very annoying. My wife has the same exact phone and it does not give her the same issues. Will Apple please look into this and help me resolve this sooner than later please. Thank you.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5, 256G

I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple store and thank goodness I got an employee who knew his stuff! I let him know about the whole issue I was having with my WIFI at home and how I was trying the WIFI at the apple store and I was not having any issues like I have at home.

The first thing he asked me was what kind of router I had (I have Uverse Internet so ATT provided me with their router), he said there are two WIFI frequencies you router broadcasts and did I know which one I was connected to? I said I have no clue, I just sign in to my WIFI network name and put in the password.

He said your router has two WIFI frequencies, one is 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The iPhone X is the first iPhone that has to use 5GHz frequency (if it uses the 2.4 GHz frequency, it will work but cause it to drop, but the phone stays connected to that radio frequency). He ran a diagnostic on my iPhone and said my phone is fine. He asked if my WIFI network name was the same or different name regarding 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I checked my router's info, and it has the same name. He said I would have to name the 5 GHz different from the 2.4 GHz cause my iPhone connects to the first available network (2.4 GHz - since both frequencies were named the same thing, I couldn't tell which one it was connecting to). I renamed my 5 GHz and up until this point, everything is working fine and have had no WIFI dropping issue with my iPhone!

I told them that guy who helped me out deserves a **** bonus!!! I hope you guys understood what I am saying, if not let me know, I will try to explain it better.

But this should RESOLVE the issues we are experiencing with WIF dropping.

That is a totally different issue than the subject of this thread. With iOS 11 the button in the control panel no longer toggles Wi-Fi. Instead, it disconnects from the current network but leaves Wi-Fi enabled. A very useful feature that I use daily. See: Use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Control Center with iOS 11 - Apple Support for more information

But have no fear, there are still FOUR ways to turn Wi-Fi on and off:

  • Settings/Wi-Fi: OFF
  • "Hey Siri, turn off Wi-Fi"
  • Hold the HOME button: "Turn off Wi-Fi"
  • Press on the Settings icon and tap Wi-Fi on the pop-up menu

Thanks for the tip. I went ahead and deleted my keychain, but the problem still persists.

I didn't get a chance to call AppleCare today but I will be calling them tomorrow. Somehow, even though they have already replaced my phone with a new one, I still think it's a hardware issue. I mean really what else could it be after having completely wiped my phone, did a factory restore and refraining from putting my data backup back on the phone and the problem still persists. No other device I have experiences this issue - from 2 iPads, an iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 5s couple of Macbooks and XBOX and more... and nothing has this issue except for the iPhone X.

As promised, I will document everything right here on this forum, in this thread until resolution.

...sigh.

I also have wifi issues. I got a brand new iPhone X about 3 days ago. From the beginning it had call drops. So Apple swapped the phone with a refurb. one. Now I am experiencing wifi issues. Wifi goes fine for some time then out of nowhere the wifi connection dissapears and whenever I try to connect to my network again it says that the password is wrong ( i dont even know why it asks for my password again since the network is already saved on my device). Anyway, I have to turn wifi off and on, sometimes multiple times, before it connects back to my network.

Not pleased by Apple, only 4 days gone and already trouble with 2 devices.

Wow Smanfredini - you've tested with iOS 12 beta and still experience the issue? Interesting. I haven't tried iOS 12 beta yet because the current version has a few known bugs that I don't mind dealing with but there are 2 bugs that I just don't want to wrestle with at all, so I am waiting for the next release and hoping those 2 in particular are squished.

Well, don't lose heart as regards iOS 12. It is after all beta. I have a feeling that since Apple's main objective for iOS 12 is bug sweep and performance, once it's out of the sandbox this WiFi issue will be gone.

...one can only hope anyway. : |

Omg!!! I’ve been having the exact same issue with my phone! I came across this article and now I can actually use WiFi on my iPhone X without any issues! I had no idea there were 2 different frequencies and now I have 3 different WiFi networks instead of 2! OMG!!! So extremely relieved now! This fixed my issue, i screenshotted this and intend on Sharing it with anyone else who has issues! 🙌-1F3FC;🙌-1F3FC;🙌-1F3FC;
