some playlists wont play on homepod

I haven’t had iTunes Match since picking up Apple Music. Some lists play others don’t. Why?

See the Manage Music & Podcasts section of Change settings for HomePod - Apple Support. Try signing out of your Apple ID there, then sign back in again.

If that doesn't work make sure that iCloud Music Library is enabled on the device that you use to configure the HomePod, then set up the HomePod again from scratch: Reset HomePod - Apple Support.

I cannot give you a concrete answer how to solve your problem. All I can I give you is my experience.
I had the same problem when I first got my HomePod, I didn't describe to Apple Music.

After about a week, I decided to start my Apple Music subscription.

Didn't have any problem after that.

I don't think you have to subscribe to Apple Music to physically play your playlists.

However, I believe, to take advantage of voice (Siri) commands you must subscribe.

Otherwise, I think you will have to physically play your playlists from your Mac, iPhone or iPad and then select HomePod as your output device.

HomePod Siri will play specific songs, but to recognize playlists, I believe you will have to subscribe to Apple Music.
That was my experience.

Now before you blame Apple, this does make perfect sense, if Apple is strategically using HomePod to enhance it's music service. I believe Apple is trying to give benefits to Apple Music subscribers as opposed to giving HomePod Siri benefits to everyone or competitors, for free. Which makes sense, if they are trying to grow the revenue for their 'services.'

Hope that helps.

I called Apple support yet again. It was April 3 when I first called about the Homepod not playing my playlists. The tech called me back and said they are aware of this issue, that there are others who also have this issue, and their engineers are working on it. He had no idea if and when it would be resolved, but he ā€œhopedā€ IOS 11.4 would resolve it. So it’s now ā€œwait and seeā€.

Same issue for me. I have 6 saved playlists in my Apple Music account. I have 3 HomePods and none of them will recognize the same two playlists. I’ve tried renaming those two playlists without success. I’ve signed out of my Apple Music account in the Home App for each HomePod and then signed back in again. No success.

Siri does acutually ally see the playlists and she says ā€œok playing ____ playlistā€ but then nothing happpens. Apple TV, iPad and my iPhone do not have this issue.

I will I’ll try resetting each of the 3 HomePods when I get home but I have little confidence that will resolve this given the playlists existed before the HomePods did.

I had this issue several weeks ago. I did a factory reset of the HomePod and my playlists started playing again. Today, April 3, most playlists are missing again. Some work fine. Others, Siri says they’re playing, but there’s nothing. I ask Siri what song is playing and she says ā€thereā€˜s nothing playingā€. I did another factory reset, but the problem did not get fixed this time. This is very frustrating and inexcusable for a $350 machine. This should not work ā€hit or missā€.

Same issue for me—will not play playlists I created after the HomePod update applied. First one Siri recognizes but stalls before playing; tried skip to next song and Siri says I’m having problems. Newer playlists are not even found by Siri. Sign out/in does nothing; I tried resetting the HomePod and now none of my playlists are found.

I spent several hours on the phone today with two levels of Apple support. They made sure my iPhone and HomePod were running the same version of IOS, which is 11.3. With their guidance, I tried everything. Nothing would make my playlists work. So I now have a ā€œcase numberā€ and they will have an engineer call me Monday, April 9, or before. As soon as I get resolution to this, I’ll post the findings here. The guys at Apple support today were very thorough, but ended up stumped. As I stated previously, I had this problem a month ago, and resolved it by doing a factory reset. The factory reset did not work this time. I think the problem now is a result of this past Fridayā€˜s upgrade to IOS 11.3.

Things have been OK so far but I've now run into trouble with the latest addition to my library. An upload rather than a matched track it happily makes it from one computer to another but it won't show up in my iPhone. It made it to the iPad, where I told it to play on the HomePod which was also connected to my Mac. You can see the artwork for the track come up, but nothing plays. Argh! 😠

I've tried removing and adding the track to iCloud Music Library, and updated it over and over, rebooted the phone, turned Wi-Fi off and on, tried patience, but nothing works. My Apple TV is missing the two most recent additions to my iCloud library, not just the one. All in all something is broken here.

xtopad: As soon as I hear back about my ā€œcase numberā€ from Apple Support, I’ll post their findings on here. I love this HomePod and play music on it all day long, always using playlists. Without that functionality, and the fact that Siri is an idiot, and Apple is silent on this problem, I am currently very frustrated with Apple.
