10.13.4 Broke BootCamp Bluetooth

Greetings!

This is super urgent! I need help! Fresh macOS 10.13.4 update most likely installed some new firmware because now I cannot connect to my keyboard or mouse in Windows 10! I tried re-pairing, reinstalling drivers, rebooting and resetting PRAM. Devices seem paired, but they never connect. They connect and disconnect every second to be precise.

I need Windows 10 working by Monday. Kindly give an advice, please.

Thank you.

Sorry for the duplicate post, it won't allow me to edit or delete the previous one.

It’s taken a while...as it always does.

Right, with MacOS 10.13.3 installed from my Time Machine backup, and having installed Windows 10 Pro without running any updates everything worked fine.

I then ran Windows update and installed the following...

- Definition update for Defender Antivirus (KB2267602)

- 2018-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1709 for x64 systems (KB4088776)

- Windows malicious software removal tool x64 - March 2018 (KB890830)

- 2018-03 Security update for Adobe Flash Player (KB4088785)

- Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based systems (KB058043)

Having installed these and rebooted, both the keyboard and mouse immediately stopped working.

I then booted back into MacOS and you’ve guessed it, the mouse didn’t work without having to re-pair it.

I found that in Device Manager-Bluetooth, for every device listed, in the events tab there is a message saying “device xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx requires further installation”. It means nothing to me but someone more knowledgable might be able to get something from it.

I’m now reinstalling Windows 10 and will not update it until I know this is fixed. I really only use it for occastional gaming and for browsing mainstream websites related to gaming so I’m willing to risk it.

I might even install MacOS 10.13.4 as I now think it’s not actually this that is the issue, it’s definitely a Windows update problem. Perhaps an update to the Bootcamp drivers is in the offing but for now, it’s most definitely broken. If I try it and it works I'll let you know.

Cheers

Thanks a ton. Well, me and sbrownpearn are having same issue with mouse unlike you. We all seem to have same 20703A2 radios but different firmwares:

v67 c4265 - for you

v63 c4264 - for sbrownpearn

v63 c4263 - for me.

Last two have issues and are similar. Yours seem a lot different despite the fact that you have very similar machine to mine. That is very interesting.

I downloaded apple support software from macOS side and transferred over through USB yesterday though to see if that would do anything.

ASU provides additional updates that do not get rolled up into BC Assistant -> Action -> Download. The Download provides the base-line release only, which is related to your specific Model Identifier. It is rare for BC packages to be updated, without a new Mac model being released.

As of this morning my mouse and keyboard will now connect automatically on all restarts in to macOS and windows 10. I was having the same mouse issues we've been having all day yesterday, but mysteriously today I'm connecting without issue. Laste update installed in windows 10 was 4/11 and nothing has changed in macos since the update over the weekend?

Possible that something was being stored in memory cached somewhere that finally worked itself out?

I literally can’t believe what I’m seeing.

My Mac was fine after running the Windows update. I’ve been away for 3 days and turned it on when I got home, booted into MacOS which was fine, then rebooted into Windows and boom, the bloody thing isn’t working again. How is that even possible?!

I'm just in the process of trying your process above. The first reboot had the mouse working, the second...nothing. FFS, what the **** is wrong with this?! I cannot believe I’m going to have to delete my **** Windows partition again.

I know it's not helping, and I know it's not what you want to hear, but you 2 guys are the only ones in various previous threads on this topic that are still having the issue as far as I can see.

For everyone else - including me - the issue was fixed in the KB4093112 patch if you are on 1709 or the equivalent - I can't remember the number - if you are on 1803.

Really don't know what is going on. You guys absolutely sure you have installed KB4093112?

iMac is approx 2 weeks old, both Windows and MacOS are fully up to date.

It it was fine 3 days ago. I had to go away and the power cable was unplugged from my Mac whilst I was gone (not that that should make one bit of difference). I get back and out of nowhere the problem is back.

I wouldn’t be so confident you’ve got it fixed. I thought I had until about 20mins ago.

It seems to be totally random. I was going to try and reinstall the Windows support software and having put it on a USB booted back into Windows and this time it works. How can it be so flaky? It’s software, it either works or it doesn’t!

Not two, but three: me, sbrownpearn had it just two days ago and now - JB737 again. Regarding "everyone", I think it may be fixed for some people, but I am pretty sure people are not testing it well enough and just being happy that it-seems-to-be-okay after not-working-at-all.

Regarding updates, I did few clean installs and updated system, it was installing KB4093112 right away. Then it takes 2-7 reboots for pairing to die.

I have this problem too, but I also have Parallels installed. I noticed that recently, just before the Magic Mouse 2 stopped working under Boot Camp, I also hit and error on the login screen before I had logged in. This related to some software called prl_cc.exe, which belongs to the Parallels Client Tools. I uninstalled this from Windows and it works now. But o course I can't use Windows properly from Parallels under macOS. I posted some info on this on the Parallels Forums too, so maybe the hit a snag with the latest Windows updates? Anyway - no one else has mentioned Parallels as yet, so I thought I'd bring it up, just in case.

Here's the URL for the other post I mentioned too: https://forum.parallels.com/threads/problem-with-boot-camp-windows-10-and-parall els-client-tools-v-13.344389/
