Apple Music skipping

I use my iPhone a lot for music playback. After upgrading to 11.3, I've started to have problems with glitching and skipping while listening to music. I'm using a iPhone 6S with a new battery installed by Apple a few weeks ago. Playback problems occur when using wired headphones (3.5 analog), the iPhone speaker and also JBL Clip 2 bluetooth speaker. All of the songs I've had skipping problems were downloaded to the phone. I've also had a problem with playing Beats1 on-demand shows. Anyone else having issues?

I don’t want to reinstall or to make any other actions. It was working perfect before the ugly update. Fix your bugs in your OS!

Steve Jobs would agree that your advice is redicilous. Apple device should work perfectly after update, especially when it comes to a basic apps like music.

Wake up and start working!

Also pertinent: have force quit/restarted the phone 4 times (at least). No difference. I agree with Ilyasubbo above - the Apple response is ridiculous! It is obviously a bug in the software update, and the users should not have to jump through Byzantine hoops to (maybe) fix a problem that lies squarely at Apple's feet. This should be fixed by Apple, and should not require users to de-install/reinstall Apple's own apps or delete music from their own library that caused no problems whatsoever under the previous build. I am a long-time Apple-everything user (since the first Macintosh! - iPhone, iPad, 2 iMacs, MacBook), but Apple's recent cavalier and sloppy attitude toward software builds is beginning to concern me a lot! This is something that just should not happen, is not representative of the excellence users expect of Apple, and Apple should be fixing it ASAP, rather than telling their loyal users to take these ridiculous steps.

Hello leedos,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that after updating to iOS 11.3, you started having issues with music playback, getting "glitching and skipping" when listening on the internal speaker, wired headphones and a Bluetooth speaker. I have several things we can try to resolve the issue, try each of these and test after each suggestion.

First, force quit Music and Restart iPhone. These articles will walk you through these steps if you need a reminder.

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are still having the same issue after force quitting Music and restarting the phone, delete and reinstall Music app. This article covers that process:

Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 11 device or Apple Watch

And finally, if you are still having the issue, please remove one of the songs that you are having an issue with and then redownload it. Then test to see if you are still having an issue with the playback.

Delete songs and videos from your iCloud Music Library

Best regards.

My iPhone 6s continues to have the stuttering problem after the 11.3.1 upgrade.

Everyone in this thread should report feedback to Apple about this issue, and refer to this thread. Apple doesn’t monitor these threads, so only writing about this issue here won’t help. Also, don’t expect a reply from Apple. Even with those caveats, Apple does pay attention to issues submitted via the feedback form.

Hi, I’ve had the same issues. Just went through this whole process to reinstall my phone and it worked. Last night there was an iOS update and it screwed up my phone again. Music and now my voicemail seems off. Starts to play then fades off to a stop. Doesn’t even show the copy script anymore.

I have contacted apple chat and will also be having a phone call tonight. I asked the Apple chat employee if there was a way to forward the information I provided to other parties. They mentioned “You can go to

apple.com/feedback, and that is checked daily by our engineers.” Think this is the another option people should do. Fill out the feedback form with issues and also call or write to apple chat.

Again I suggest everyone having problems 1) post feedback (probably everyday) 2) call apple

When I talked with Apple before it was mentioned to “You can go to

apple.com/feedback, and that is checked daily by our engineers.” Think this is the another option people should do. Fill out the feedback form with issues and also call and/or write to apple chat.

I would copy/paste the link to this discussion and mention it on the call/chat.

I have the same issue too. It happens under multiple conditions.

  • When I am using my airpods, the sounds totally cuts out (and continues playing the track/ podcast). I have to select the iPhone internal speaker then select back to my Airpods to enable the sound again or wait for the issue to self correct itself, which can take some time
  • When playing through my phone, via a cable, to a set of speakers. Normally at the beginning of the session the music become distorted and robot like until I remove and reinsert the cable. This doesn't 100% fix the fault but can help.

Please fix this issue. My Airpods are by far the best Apple purchase I have every made and this is totally ruining the experience for me.

Lots of feedback since I last wrote on here, none of it from Apple, none of it presenting a resolution.

What I find annoying is this assertion that deleting the apple music app and downloading your music again will restore the issue. It does not. Here are some key facts about the sound issues

  1. Its not just music apps, also podcasts are affected
  2. sound cut off and distortion/skipping is random
  3. it typically effects the first track played
  4. it appears to effect downloaded music only (i am testing this theory a lot, see below)

Because Apple has made no effort to respond to this issue, I have cancelled my apple music subscription.

I have had an iPhone since the first Apple Phone; today I have an iPhone7; it is due for upgrade next year and I buy my phones, so... I will not be upgrading to a new iPhoneX+ or whatever they call it. Samsung will be my choice. This is sad, because as I said, I have been a supporter of Apple for many years. I believed in their products and commitment to customer service and it is the later part that has gone wrong.

I am a software tester, I know stuff can go wrong, but this is madness. There are hundreds of posts, describing skipping, distortion, sound loss and there is no sign that Apple even accepts that this is occurring.

I am wondering if this is more hardware than software and that is the reason why Apple are not keen to accept that there is an issue?

Anyway, I have now started a #badApple tag on Twitter and I will be banging on about this in a more public arena until its fixed or I move to Samsung. I wonder which will come first?

Ever since updating to 11.3, my iPhone 7 has been having the same audio issues. After about 30 seconds, the audio cuts off, then comes back totally garbled. This has happened with music and podcasts, and it just happened while I was on the phone. 30 seconds into my call, the audio cut off, then came back slow and stuttering, eventually resolving itself. Never had an issue before this update.

Had this exact issue on Iphone 6s with good battery, and was able to correct it by turning off the personal hotspot. I've been listening now for a half hour without an issue.

I had another issue where the lock screen was not updating elapsed time during the song as well, but that was corrected with a reset.

I hope this helps

Confirm! iPhone SE, last update, audio glitching on every first or every second track (first, it's a short pause, then a short period of a track is repeated three or four times (taah-taah-taah-taah, kind of) and them plays on). Thanks god, i haven't updated iPad yet. I'm a drummer and I use apple devices for playbacks when performing with a band. So you can imagine how critical this problem for me is.

Apple, please fix it
