Apple Music skipping

I use my iPhone a lot for music playback. After upgrading to 11.3, I've started to have problems with glitching and skipping while listening to music. I'm using a iPhone 6S with a new battery installed by Apple a few weeks ago. Playback problems occur when using wired headphones (3.5 analog), the iPhone speaker and also JBL Clip 2 bluetooth speaker. All of the songs I've had skipping problems were downloaded to the phone. I've also had a problem with playing Beats1 on-demand shows. Anyone else having issues?

Hello leedos,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that after updating to iOS 11.3, you started having issues with music playback, getting "glitching and skipping" when listening on the internal speaker, wired headphones and a Bluetooth speaker. I have several things we can try to resolve the issue, try each of these and test after each suggestion.

First, force quit Music and Restart iPhone. These articles will walk you through these steps if you need a reminder.

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are still having the same issue after force quitting Music and restarting the phone, delete and reinstall Music app. This article covers that process:

Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 11 device or Apple Watch

And finally, if you are still having the issue, please remove one of the songs that you are having an issue with and then redownload it. Then test to see if you are still having an issue with the playback.

Delete songs and videos from your iCloud Music Library

Best regards.

Had this exact issue on Iphone 6s with good battery, and was able to correct it by turning off the personal hotspot. I've been listening now for a half hour without an issue.

I had another issue where the lock screen was not updating elapsed time during the song as well, but that was corrected with a reset.

I hope this helps

Having jitter problem on my iPhone 7 and iPad (2018) as well.

I have tested using AirPods and Sony WH-1000XM2, which both of them are Bluetooth devices, jittering when playing some music.

Anyway, same that the wired earphones are ok.

BTW, I’ve tried restarting iPhone, reinstalling Apple Music, redownloading songs...... none of them work.

Having the same problem. I see in the comment section I’m not the only one. Have already tried all solutions within reason (To sugest we delete preinstalled apps to solve an uppdate-related problem is ridiculous). Fix this problem quickly and appologise rather than dumping the problem on the users! Otherwise you will have lost a customer. I only stick with iPhone for the reliability. If you keep giving us unfinished, buggy updates, then theres really no point in paying more for your product right? Sorry for the rant, but this stuff is important

I have the same for Music Player and live stream (App) music, on iPhone 7 and it’s only happened since the 11.3 update.

I’ve tried resetting, reinstalling and power cycles but nothing has fixed it.

Interestingly, when the phone in asleep (blank screen) and you get stuttering, lifting the phone to wake it immediately clears the stuttering.

Please fix this Apple as I can’t use my phone to play and kind of audio any more!

With all due respect, this is not an iTunes issue, this is a playback issue, as the problem is the same across all audio platforms - podcasts, iTunes, Pandora, etc. I'm on iOS 11.4 with a 7 plus, and I've noticed these same issues since 11.3. Sorry folks, but 11.4 didn't fix it. The problem seems to be with the lock screen. If I start a playback with Bluetooth (AirPods mostly) and lock the screen, it invariably drops the Bluetooth. I go into my settings screen, and it has the AirPods listed as still connected, and the playback is still going, but no sound. So I have to disconnect the AirPods, reconnect them, and start the playback over again, this time being mindful not to lock my screen. Super convenient, right? (The issue is slightly different when I have headphones connected physically with the lightning adapter - in that case, if I lock the screen, the music or podcast starts skipping and eventually stops working, or continues to skip even after I unlock the phone).

Most of us on here own Apple products because they work the way they are supposed to work, and do it with as little interruption to our lives as possible. They make our lives easier, not harder. If I wanted a phone that was powerful but has glitches and requires workarounds, I'd just get a Samsung. When will this be fixed?

Same problem here on iPhone 6s, even after upgrading to 11.4. Happens constantly. Worse when the phone is locked. Does not just affect music or podcast playback, but phone calls as well.

Listening to talk radio, I've even heard this problem affect the audio of people calling in to do interviews.

How Apple has not already fixed this problem is baffling, given that three releases (11.3, 11.3.1, 11.4) have been deployed since people started complaining.

I am listening with original headphones with lightning cable... My Music stops randomly and I have to plug out my headphones and plug it in again.... Hope this is the same Problem you have... Can anyone comfirm my Problem? I think it has something to do with the lightning port??? I had the same problem after 11.4. but not so often... Sometimes it happens when I hit the lightning plug (while connected in the phone) but I cant reproduce the problem... Sorry for my english... Can anyone confirm? It happens with all apps... Napster, Audible, Youtube... Phone Calls....

Dear Apple,

This continues to be an issue on iOS 11.4.1 on Model MN4Q2B/A

Deleting and downloading the music or podcast does not improve the situation. Often replaying the offending track or podcast results in the issue not repeating itself, which proves its not the file itself.

The issue presents on device speakers, wired headphones, bluetooth speaker, bluetooth connection to car system.

Apple must respond with a fix; because the audio entertainment aspect of your products are critical. If the quality is this bad, you will lose users.

You have enough evidence of the issue. If a visit to Apple store will result in resolution (which I doubt) then more than happy to do. I do not believe this is a hardware issue, its all software.
