can not sync photos with ios 11.3 and itunes 12.7.4

I downloaded itunes 12.7.4 and ios 11.3 and now I can not sync my photos to my iphone X, Iphone 8 plus, Ipod Touch or Ipad Pro with my PC running Windows 10. It gets to Step 5 of 6 and just sits there frozen at "Reading Photo's from "Pictures" and will not finish the transfer of the photos to my devices and finish the sync. I did not have a problem until the new operating system was released. Anyone having this issue and is there a fix??

iPhone X, Windows 10

So until Apple fixes this, here is a workaround: Downgrade to iTunes 12.7.3! It definitely is an iTunes 12.7.4-issue. After downgrading to 12.7.3, everything is working again.

So you have to manually uninstall 12.7.4 and download 12.7.3 from Apple (just google for the version number, you'll find it).

Problem is that you have to go back to an auto-saved iTunes Library file from when you had 12.7.3 installed. So after installing but before starting 12.7.3 you have to first rename the current "iTunes Library.itl" file to something like "iTunes Library 12-7.4.itl" and then go to the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and take the presumably latest autosaved itl-file and move it one folder up and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl".

(Of course this means that you'll lose all changes you made to your iTunes library since updating to 12.7.4)

Today I updated iTunes to 12.7.4 and now it won't sync photos to my iPhone 7+

It's on version 11.2.6 and was working fine before the update. Got a new mini iPad last week and contacted Apple support because of issues trying to sync photos. Returned the iPad and got a new one. Managed to sync some photos to it on Saturday, but that was before I updated iTunes. Hope Apple does a fix soon. I'll send a message to the senior Apple adviser who was helping me.

Same issue here. New iTunes 12.7.4 won’t put any photos back onto my phone after call to AppleCare and HOURS of trying to resolve. Called them due to syncing issue over trying to sync 130 photos from my camera roll to phone wasn’t working properly, senior advisor had me wipe my phone back to factory settings and do restore from previous backup....long story short, it totally wiped all 42,600 photos off of my phone and I can’t get them back on it from my computer (I don’t use the cloud for music or photos). To say this has been upsetting and frustrating doesn’t do the experience justice.

I'm really appreciating some of the clever workarounds. Definitely a testament to quality of the community here. But the sad part is that many of us use certain Apple products for sake of simplicity. The fact that we've had to use workarounds for extended periods of time is ridiculous. Apple used to be much better about releasing quality software updates. iOS 11 updates have been constant big fixes while we're still missing features (like iCloud in iMessage). And the flaws with iTunes are impeding functionality we've had for so long on our iDevices - manual photo sync. Hopefully this thread is making enough noise for Apple to take notice. Again, really appreciative for some of the suggestions here that have been working for some.

Another serious bug with iTunes 12.7.4.76 (64 bit) on Windows 10:

  • It can only be launched once after logging in.
  • If you close it, it will not open again.
    • Task Manager shows that iTunes.exe is running, but the user interface is nowhere to be found.
    • Killing iTunes.exe with the Task Manager doesn't work either.
  • You have to Sign out and back in again, or reboot Windows to launch it again.
  • This version is seriously buggy.
    • Looks like it was rushed out without a lot of testing.

This appears to be working for me so far. Only part of my pictures moved into folder.

I created a new folder under Pictures(My Pictures) as iPhoneSync.

Change from iphone in iTunes to select the Folder.

Initially, since it contains nothing, Sync will finish with no issue.

Move some of the some pictures folders over.

Click Sync.

The sync is finishing and copying the pictures to phone now.

Yes, like someone else has reported here, I violated my old rule of waiting a few weeks before installing these annoying updates. Figured it was no big deal -- just a minor step version update. Now I'll have to wait until iTunes 12.7.4 is fixed before I can see my photos on my iPhone. I refuse to go through the hassle of downgrading to 12.7.3, and possibly losing my music like others here have reported.

Seems like this is the second or third time in the last few years that something like this has happened. Aggravating to say the least.
