can not sync photos with ios 11.3 and itunes 12.7.4

I downloaded itunes 12.7.4 and ios 11.3 and now I can not sync my photos to my iphone X, Iphone 8 plus, Ipod Touch or Ipad Pro with my PC running Windows 10. It gets to Step 5 of 6 and just sits there frozen at "Reading Photo's from "Pictures" and will not finish the transfer of the photos to my devices and finish the sync. I did not have a problem until the new operating system was released. Anyone having this issue and is there a fix??

iPhone X, Windows 10

So until Apple fixes this, here is a workaround: Downgrade to iTunes 12.7.3! It definitely is an iTunes 12.7.4-issue. After downgrading to 12.7.3, everything is working again.

So you have to manually uninstall 12.7.4 and download 12.7.3 from Apple (just google for the version number, you'll find it).

Problem is that you have to go back to an auto-saved iTunes Library file from when you had 12.7.3 installed. So after installing but before starting 12.7.3 you have to first rename the current "iTunes Library.itl" file to something like "iTunes Library 12-7.4.itl" and then go to the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and take the presumably latest autosaved itl-file and move it one folder up and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl".

(Of course this means that you'll lose all changes you made to your iTunes library since updating to 12.7.4)

Deleting the cache does not affect the camera roll or photo stream.

I tried ErgoEdbo's method and it did work with pictures and folders in place. It took a few hours to get 8200 pictures back in. I will probably not try to sync again until I see Apple step up to with some better solution.

You guys are awesome to take time to help the rest of us out here!

Here’s my update .... came home last night ... deleted and reinstalled iTunes on my comp... tested sync with my iPad , since I have not synced it since this mess started... just so I could try and see if it is my phone, comp, or iTunes that I part of the problem.... so... I chose different albums.. made some changes in my music... started the sync at 5 pm.... it sat for 30 min on reading photos .. then another 20 min on waiting to copy changes... then actually started syncing... still going at 10 pm wit 5500 photos of 13126 syncd ... left it run all night as I went to bed...

looked At it at 3:45 am as I got up for work... sync finished... was long .. but a positive result... I thought...

in in looking at my photos... not all pics in the albums came over... and none of the changes I made to music... so , still I can’t properly sync my photos, and can’t sync music at all... on any device... sick of it..

i can’t even try and remove photos on my phone... when I uncheck sync photos it ask if I want to remove them.. I say yes.... it never does... a few times it loads all my albums... but 0 pics in each one.... and music won’t sync.... this mess has cost me business in my photography, and left a couple thousand dollar investment in devices. Pretty much useless.... anyone have an email address to a higher up at Apple I can send my opinion too? ( not that they care)

I updated my Mini iPad 4 and my iPad this afternoon to the latest iOS. Updated iTunes on the computer last night.

The update always takes about 25 minutes, but synching only took about 5 minutes. I added one new folder of photos to the mini iPad and two folders to the iPad. Only adding about 300 photos.

When the iPad finished synching the new folders didn’t appear on the iPad. I immediately synced again and under a minute they were there. I’m happy with the results.

Thanks Philipp, that did the trick and saved my weekend.
I did notice this problem before upgrading the iOS and thought that might solve issues. It doesn't. It's not the first time the photo sync is screwed up, I don't know what they are doing. Maybe it doesn't apply to everyone doing photo syncs like this. If it does then it's just sloppy testing.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

Clearly this is a big bug. Been to two apple techs and several hours over last two days. I told latest tech, Justin, of this post. He did some online stuff including getting diagnostics from my computer and my iphone 8 plus. He was unable to correct and sent all this to Engineering. I discussed reverting back to an earlier version of iTunes but we did not do that. Tech is supposed to get back with me on Wednesday late afternoon. Sure hope a relatively simple fix comes out for this. I have warned several folks I know about this bug. Wish they would do a better job of beta testing. I did break my own rule however which is to wait a full 7-14 days before I install any upgrade.
