can not sync photos with ios 11.3 and itunes 12.7.4

I have this problem , too. it takes house at "reading photos from.." . I have done "reset the setting & contents"data on my iPhone x 4 times in the past 3 days, and on the call with a Apple support person 2-3 hours, could not figure it out.

It got me past the area I was first stuck on with reading photos, but then it just got stuck on adding a certain photo. I think the administration option helped to get past previously not being able to rebuild the iPod photo cache, but I am still having issues.

Don't know if my initial deleting of the iPod photo cache messed me up from the start, or maybe the multiple fixes I have tried, but I will probably have to wait until Apple comes out with something. If that doesn't help, I might have to try a restore from backup, messy as that is.

I too am having this issue afer updating to ioS 11.3 and iTunes 12.7.4. I was just speaking to a Sr. Advisor who is taking ownership of my case and will escalate to Engineering. He screen shared my screen to see issue.

11.3 worked well with the previous iTunes though, no problems synching photographs at all.

(touch wood) luckily I don't have the problem of iTunes not re-opening after closing it down other than when I force close it via Task Manager - indeed my iTunes likes to re-open itself several times when I close it down 🙂 .

Unfortunately, the store employees are clueless about this problem. In addition, first line Apple advisors are clueless. Only Apple senior advisors are aware of the issue and are working with Apple engineers.

The biggest company by market capitalisation in the world, offering shabby service.

Many a great company has collapsed because of poor service.

As a loyal Apple customer for many years feel this is shocking service.

Why don't they end out a press release or advise customers so we don't waste hours trying to solve an unsolvable problem or is this a way of converting everyone to IOS?

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. Interestingly, the photos still seemed to be present since I could see photos in people albums but all of my synced albums were gone. I've done a reset & I'm now restoring a backup to hopefully put things right but I am not at all confident.

(& now it's just finished & guess what, I now have no photos at all & iTunes is stuck on "Reading photos from..." yet again - grrr!)

Has anybody found a download link for iTunes 12.7.3? I can only find 12.4.3 which I'll try if I cannot get the previous version before this 12.7.4 disaster. It seems that with just about every update Apple screws something with photo synchronisation & I'm sick of having to constantly reload my library. I'll be using Google Photos in future.

Surely this is Apples job,not ours as customers.

The real frustration is no support from Apple and guys at iStore just deleted all my details on phone,reset everything then said SORRY we don't know what problem is,sent phone away for repairs and now wont repar division will not respond to the Status of my phone?????

Oh well that's how the largest company in the world(by market capitalization) treat their customers. Wonder how long they will stay number 1.

Honestly, I dont think the problem is widespread as it affects users that sync photos to their devices. I do not personally know anyone who syncs photos from their computer to their devices, and I was surprised of the number of people posting in this community about the issue. Just a thought…

There are at least 15 posts on this forum regarding photos, I looked at a couple of them to see how many had said they had the same problem and there were 316 on one and 100 on the other, with 284 on this thread. As a percentage of Apple Users as a whole I guess it doesn't seem to be many people but to each of us experiencing the problem it is an inconvenience.

There is no excuse for Apple to not have put a warning on the latest update to not do the update if you sync your pictures with ITunes and to not a have a link where we can go and have ITunes automatically downgraded to the last version. They should have also informed us of the problem so we did not waste our time trying to figure it out. It has also been way to long for a fix. Are they trying to force us to pay for storing photos in the cloud? Someone should sue Apple.

I am still not over how when you upgraded to IOS 11 and synced your photos with ITunes all the work you had done identifying people was erased. I had spent hundreds of hours going through all my pictures identifying people and then IOS 11 erased it all to give us what they said was a better system. It is not and there was no excuse to erase all the work we had done identifying people.

There are many posts. I’m included in many of them. I was surprised that there were this many people syncing photos to their devices because in person, I haven’t met anyone. However, I’m into photos, but most of my friends are not. This created a HUGE problem for me.

Nope... I have not wanted to roll back to 12.7.3 and am hoping for a new revision soon. I have tried deleting the photo cache and removing all photos from the iPhone, and then re-syncing as others have suggested. Nothing has worked to reduce the ridiculous sync times so far. I really hope a new version is released soon.

Anyone get it to work with the new version of Itunes 12.74.80? I have downloaded and installed it and its been stuck on reading the photos again. Really irritating they would release a new version without fixing it. But maybe we have to do something to get it to work right. It had been updating for about 8 hours trying to get some more pictures on when the new version appeared on my task bar. I canceled the sync, installed the new version and have tried to sync again.

Deleted folders which deleted their content. Apple tech still does not know but is speculating the my Adobe photoshop elements may play a role. Backup this morning was 45 minutes (way too long). I am attempting to add a photo subfile containing 211 pictures now. IT IS TAKING A LONG TIME.
