can not sync photos with ios 11.3 and itunes 12.7.4

I downloaded itunes 12.7.4 and ios 11.3 and now I can not sync my photos to my iphone X, Iphone 8 plus, Ipod Touch or Ipad Pro with my PC running Windows 10. It gets to Step 5 of 6 and just sits there frozen at "Reading Photo's from "Pictures" and will not finish the transfer of the photos to my devices and finish the sync. I did not have a problem until the new operating system was released. Anyone having this issue and is there a fix??

iPhone X, Windows 10

So until Apple fixes this, here is a workaround: Downgrade to iTunes 12.7.3! It definitely is an iTunes 12.7.4-issue. After downgrading to 12.7.3, everything is working again.

So you have to manually uninstall 12.7.4 and download 12.7.3 from Apple (just google for the version number, you'll find it).

Problem is that you have to go back to an auto-saved iTunes Library file from when you had 12.7.3 installed. So after installing but before starting 12.7.3 you have to first rename the current "iTunes Library.itl" file to something like "iTunes Library 12-7.4.itl" and then go to the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and take the presumably latest autosaved itl-file and move it one folder up and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl".

(Of course this means that you'll lose all changes you made to your iTunes library since updating to 12.7.4)

I had to sync 20-30 times over three days. Two times almost bricking my iPad, this was after downgrading.

Support couldn't help much since they needed my to be on the last iTunes version, but I explained to them that this won't synchronize at all. They also seemed baffled that someone had 13k pictures and that this was an crazy amount and that it would be too much for the computer to handle 🙂.

I don't think that apple will fix this 😟, I'm still on iCloud version 3.1 since it's the only version that works with photostream.

I have done that working with the apple guy. Actually, have done it twice. Not the solution for someone with 8200 photos to be synced. If you un-check the photos, all photos will be removed. Been there done that twice. Long grind to get them back. Sync times seem to be short at first with few photos but once one hits the 3000 mark, they really take a long time. My sync time for the last two days was 3.5 hours. Of that 5 minutes to backup to my PC and the balance for the photos even though I have added NONE.

If it is an e-book you want to drag and drop then in file manager copy the specific book (or books). Device must be connected to iTunes - open the device in iTunes (i.e. click on the device icon). Click Edit, paste and the books will go on to the device.

If it is music or a film already in your iTunes library, when the device is connected to iTunes click your mouse on the relevant song(s) or film(s) and literally drag the mouse over to the device name and drop the file on to the device.

(I manually manage, I presume this can also be done if the device is not manually managed).

Same problem here.... can not put albums from my computer into my phone . The photos are there but in a jumbled mess. I’m a photographer and I have these folders for ease of finding photos ... over 22,000 of them... I’ve tried all the fixes listed here. None has worked... had to resort to gooogle drive and pay per month for it just to help in operating my business.... this needs fixed .... I bought a 256 gig X for over a grand ... and all previous iPhones, iPads, because Apple advertises this feature, has it in their iTunes software.... but we can’t use it.... and when I talk to Apple , they seem clueless about it... next trip to the Apple store is to demand my money back.. and they are forcing me back to Android ... and I hate it

I have already tried this method... did not work... no they are not gone , they are in the photos tab... but I need the albums to locate pictures for my business... they are now in the photos tab in a jumbled mess... by dates , wrong locations... most of my pics are synced over from a computer , most are taken with canon DSLR’s. So there is no location or date .. the photo tab is fine if you only use the phone camera for selfies and snap shots... even then you have to try and remember a date or where you took it to find it.... I’ve been with iPhone, syncing albums since iPhone 4... this is a mess....

This is becoming very, very annoying. I have spent hours and hours either on the phone to the Apple support people or online trying to sort this mess out myself. Apple just don't appear to want to know. The attitude of there staff in my local Apple shop was one of "go away". They just wouldn't admit there is a problem.

I'm in the UK . We have "Trading Standards" people who might be interested. After all, we have been sold a product that doesn't work.

Why no mention in the press? Surely they must use Ipads and Iphones?

Come on Apple, please act like a responsible company.

I am tired of complaining, you win Apple.

For the biggest company in the world(by market capitalization) this is very poor,in fact a shocking way to treat customers,we made you no 1.why dont you at least tell us when you going to fix,if you think we are all just moaners remember how much time we've spent trying to resolve this problem,we all have better use of our time besides trying to fix Apple mistakes.

Either do the update or lose customers.

Like I've said before I don't think they will fix this. Everything that has something to do with photos somehow doesn't matter to Apple.

Uploading pictures to iCloud doesn't work well either, it freezes when uploading and if you finally get something transferred it's not possible to sort albums correctly and when you turn on the photolibrary function on your iPhone the pictures won't appear and icloud don't support all video formats like when you sync manually.

Also given the fact that many including myself get the response that "why are you having so many photos" etc. Don't give me much hope in a fix.

I still have to run iCloud 3.1 which is almost 5 years old in order to have photostream function on my pc.

Talked to support several times and no solution was found.

Everytime I have issues and call support it seems like the functions I use are no longer "supported", also had issues with netflix over Airplay and was told that airplay wasn't really in development any more.

At the current time there are over 700 that has this issue, how many more would it take for Apple to check this out?.

I have a case open with Support. I call once a week but no update. I haven't upgraded to 12.7.3 as I have made changes and added some content to iTunes. I'd like to wait for a fix to 12.7.4 but it is getting old. I left my Tech Support Rep a message 3 days ago but haven't gotten a call back. Last time I called he replied back on May 6th saying no update.
