can not sync photos with ios 11.3 and itunes 12.7.4

I downloaded itunes 12.7.4 and ios 11.3 and now I can not sync my photos to my iphone X, Iphone 8 plus, Ipod Touch or Ipad Pro with my PC running Windows 10. It gets to Step 5 of 6 and just sits there frozen at "Reading Photo's from "Pictures" and will not finish the transfer of the photos to my devices and finish the sync. I did not have a problem until the new operating system was released. Anyone having this issue and is there a fix??

iPhone X, Windows 10

So until Apple fixes this, here is a workaround: Downgrade to iTunes 12.7.3! It definitely is an iTunes 12.7.4-issue. After downgrading to 12.7.3, everything is working again.

So you have to manually uninstall 12.7.4 and download 12.7.3 from Apple (just google for the version number, you'll find it).

Problem is that you have to go back to an auto-saved iTunes Library file from when you had 12.7.3 installed. So after installing but before starting 12.7.3 you have to first rename the current "iTunes Library.itl" file to something like "iTunes Library 12-7.4.itl" and then go to the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and take the presumably latest autosaved itl-file and move it one folder up and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl".

(Of course this means that you'll lose all changes you made to your iTunes library since updating to 12.7.4)

I posted a workaround earlier (enable then disable icloud for photos to clear the on device cache). BUT - you do have the option of returning the device which is what I intend to do for my devices.

What I would like to see is the photo client without the gumph - the rubbish - all the 'lets create you a friends movie' rubbish. I just want to be able to browse my photos.. or AT LEAST.. and option to clear the database cache. Apple logic == flawed.

I finally fixed my problem. I can share my method to you for your reference.

I must say that it is a method provided by Apple staff. Very appreciated about that.

Method:

1) Settings

2) click your name (it is on the top and just below the word " Settings")

3) icloud

4) Photos

5) click "icloud photo library"

After a while, you may try to sync your iphone again. It may fix your problem

It is just because you have "memory" in your photo album.

The method above is to delete all your "memory" and recover part of storage.

You may try to open "Photos", you can see there is a word "Memories" on the bottom.

And that is the reason why I couldn't sync my iphone because "Memories" used up my storage

Hope it can help you.

Well, this is exactly how I sync my photos (as are apparently Denise Woodcock and AirJordan613) for a very long time. It does usually work and stopped working only with the latest update of iTunes (and it also broke a few times before, usually when updating iOS). So in general that feature does exist and does work. It only seems that this feature is not part of any testing when updates of iOS or iTunes are to be released.

I would hope that with the next update of iTunes it will be working again, until then I‘ll stay on the older iTunes version.

An update. I am still waiting for apple to call me back. Phone call is to be this afternoon. In the meantime, I remembered that I had an iPod Touch that I do not normally use for photos but only music. It has iOS 11.2.6 installed. I decided to sync a small photo folder with 10 pitures with iTunes 12.7.4.76 to see what happened. IT DID SYNC CORRECTLY!!!! My conclusion: the problem lies somewhere between the two applications. I intend to report this finding to apple when they call.

I am getting tired of waiting for a fix.

I did that and it got me further, but now I get stuck on "waiting for changes to be applied" .. I let it sit like that for 13 hours and nothing.

The only thing that works for me, and it's a REAL P.I.T.A .. is using iFunbox to delete a bunch of files from the photo data folder.. the sqlite databases, the stuff in the sync folders, and ithumb files .. you have to look for them .. then you reboot the phone.. after that, it syncs normally.. once.. then it's a problem again.

It ***** because I'm constantly adding photos to my albums since I do a lot of photography and like to keep them with me out of the camera roll .. I have about 17,407 images as of this post, all I did was add ONE new image and it's sitting here forever.. all I can see on my iPhone is that it created the album but hasn't copied the image..
