can not sync photos with ios 11.3 and itunes 12.7.4

I downloaded itunes 12.7.4 and ios 11.3 and now I can not sync my photos to my iphone X, Iphone 8 plus, Ipod Touch or Ipad Pro with my PC running Windows 10. It gets to Step 5 of 6 and just sits there frozen at "Reading Photo's from "Pictures" and will not finish the transfer of the photos to my devices and finish the sync. I did not have a problem until the new operating system was released. Anyone having this issue and is there a fix??

iPhone X, Windows 10

So until Apple fixes this, here is a workaround: Downgrade to iTunes 12.7.3! It definitely is an iTunes 12.7.4-issue. After downgrading to 12.7.3, everything is working again.

So you have to manually uninstall 12.7.4 and download 12.7.3 from Apple (just google for the version number, you'll find it).

Problem is that you have to go back to an auto-saved iTunes Library file from when you had 12.7.3 installed. So after installing but before starting 12.7.3 you have to first rename the current "iTunes Library.itl" file to something like "iTunes Library 12-7.4.itl" and then go to the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and take the presumably latest autosaved itl-file and move it one folder up and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl".

(Of course this means that you'll lose all changes you made to your iTunes library since updating to 12.7.4)

Sorry. I’m sure this is somewhere in this thread, but what do you mean “roll back the database......” ?

From the user tip:

When reverting to an earlier build of iTunes you may need to restore an older version of your library database using, for example, the method shown in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash or from another suitable backup such as Time Machine. Until you do so iTunes may tell that your library needs a newer version of iTunes. Reverting to an older version of your database will mean that you lose recent changes to your library, however you can add the media folder to the library to import recent additions.

I did a complete DFU install of firmware on my spare iPhone and connected it to a new pc that never had been synced before and noticed the following:

Initial synchronization took approx. 30 min. Then an extra 15 minutes pr. picture folder added.

So if you have 15 folders it took over 3 hours before pictures started transferring.

Had a good conversation with support today and they were aware of people having this issue.

I sendt them all the necessary diagnostic files from my windows machine and Apple's engineers are going to look at it.

Fingers crossed 🙂.

Thank you and all the others. for the comments. The problem is also when sync from a window unit with iTunes and it is the iTunes update 12.7.4. with the bug. I have a window-laptop (now W10) with iTunes and have been synchronizing photos ( now 5000+) and songs (now 6000+) for many many years to my iPad and iPod Touch ( iOS 9.3.5) , but since the update of the iTunes on my laptop to 12.7.4 the sync hangs at the last step. iTunes 12.7.4. 80 didn't help. So the same problem persists.

Nothing helps. I only hope Apple will fix this bug in iTunes 12.7.4 without any more delay. It has taken already too much time.

So I have this issue on 2 devices (newest version of ios and latest itunes, and an older version of ios for the other device) and have a 'fix' - which only works temporarily. Good old apple. I now worked through this with apple and demonstrated what iTunes was logging, so they now have this information.

Unfortunately the 'fix' was to restore each device from a backup and then resync the images - but this only works for a few weeks before failing once more.

I showed the error logs to the engineers and they are 'working on it', apparently. Before it comes back. Again. honestly. Suffice to say that it definitely is an itunes issue.

About a month backed I followed instructions and downgraded to iTunes 12.7.3. I am using that now and ios 11.3. All is well. If I were to upgrade to ios 11.4 and to iTunes 12.7.5 completely bypassing the .4 problem version will I be running ok. I am looking for an answer from someone who went from 12.7.3 directly to 12.7.5 skipping .4. Does it work for you?

I have 256Gig iPhone 8+ and 12 K photos and 5K tunes.

I have just synched my iPod Pro (9.7" version from the original release) and the albums are still there, so for me it is just the iPhone 7plus that has the problem.

If needed my info is: PC is Windows 10 fully updated, iPhone 7plus fully updated and as for others this has only happened since I updated iTunes last night.

Edit 5 April 21.30 - iPod Touch with OS 11.2.5 which has been out of use for a few weeks - just synched photos to it and as with the iPhone, the photos have synched but no albums show. Before synching I checked the iPod photo cache file and the date modified for that had not changed when I synched the iPad Pro, nor had the amount of data stored there so I suspect that for unknown reasons nothing actually happened with the photos when that synched (leaving the few albums on there as they were).

I presume the fact that a synch to a device with an older OS aids proving that it is the latest iTunes update for Windows that is causing the problem??
