Bluetooth Voice Becomes REALLY Slow

At least once a day on conference calls via bluetooth headsets (several types - all equal) the voice I hear is slowed down (sounds very deep and is mostly unintelligible).

To fix, I switch to iPhone or Speaker and back or the call simply drops.

The person I am speaking to can hear that my voice has slowed down. (Sounds like when the voice of an informant is masked on tv.)

Other times I will lose all sound coming out of the call, however the call continues. Redialing into the call does not restore the sound. Only way to fix seems to be a hard reboot of the phone.

I have an iPhone 7+ iOS 11.3

Also having the same problem with iPhone 6s/11.3.1 (though it's been happening for several versions now) using either Plantronics Voyager Edge or Jabra 510.

I will be on a call, and there will be a cutout of receiving audio, followed by the "tape slowed way down then winding up to speed" effect. Callers have told me that sometimes they'll hear my voice doing the opposite, i.e. 'chipmunking'.

Apple, you need to get this fixed ASAP or the iPhone platform is not business grade.

It does appear that this is an Apple issue. At first I wondered if it might be something to do with my Sennheiser headset, but if I Google for this kind of issue, it seems only to occur with Apple devices.

Maybe it'll be fixed with iOS 12, but I have a sinking feeling that the developers will be concentrating more on new features than bug fixes at this stage in the development cycle. How I would love to be wrong!

When I went to the Apple Store they suggested I try setting up my iPhone 7 as a new phone and not restore from a backup. I thought it fixed the issue, but after 10 days of it working, my Bluetooth calls went back to having the issue. Apple Phone Support confirmed that they are aware of the issue, but there is currently no solution.

iOS 12 Public Beta is now available for download. Has anyone been brave enough to try it yet? Any feedback regarding this would be much appreciated. This may at least prove it is a software issue if it works with iOS 12.

Never noticed the screen tbh,

But I am a HGV lorry driver, so always got my Bluetooth on, and it’s happening more and more often all the time.

I just googled Apple calls voice slowing down during calls, and then actually found how common a fault it’s becoming.

I didn’t know if it was the network or the iPhone, but from what I’ve been reading it’s definitely an Apple problem, lots of people complaining about it.

I took this issue to Apple a couple of months ago because I thought it was my airpods. I hadn’t had the problem on other Bluetooth. They replaced my airpods and acted like they had never heard of this issue. Same problem with new airpods. Now I’m experiencing it with a very high quality Plantronics headset that has never caused me a problem before. I’m on the phone all day. It’s definitely a conversation starter when I “go chipmunk “. Apple this is **** poor!

Hi Wakatashi,

Thanks for your contribution :-)

"Good" to hear, you werent lucky with your brandnew iPhone :-/ Apple Support gave exactly this suggestion to me, also. I was starting a discussion about who complicated it is going to be to get back to the customized iOS that I have at the moment.

I just cant believe this is the current state.

I keep hoping with every update release of iOS that this one will fix it. Maybe iOS 12? (oh please oh please oh please)

Like others I read about, I use my iPhone for work (with a Sennheiser Bluetooth headset in my case), and it's kinda embarrassing and unprofessional-seeming when this problem happens on a call. Especially since I'm an IT Consultant and there's an expectation that I ought to be able to fix this kind of stuff!

This is so frustrating.

I have had the problems for months. Speaker phone, blue tooth, inside, outside, at work, on the road, at home....doesn’t matter.

Apple Care worthless. I went in store and they rand tests and blamed ATT. Clearly this is not an ATT issue. New SIM card. Hard reset. Nothing works.

Apple you owe me a new phone that works. That why I. have Apple Care. Honor your warranty.

So mad and frustrated.
