IOS 11.4.1 Terrible battery drain

I was on ios 11.3 and updated to iOS IOS 11.4.1 which shocked me with severe battery drain. I’d say iOS 11.3 served better battery consumption. Please, Apple, do something to iOS IOS 11.4.1 to prevent battery drain. My device is iPad mini 2 with retina display.

I have the same issue on my iPhone 5S. I went to the Apple store recently with 11.4 on my device, and the in-store tech showed me the diagnostics of my battery usage with some severe drops in power consumption, despite the battery being in good health (only a small percentage of it being used-up). The store technician recommended I factory reset my device to try and overcome the issue.

So, I've done that, and it auto-installed 11.4.1 which has turned my phone into almost a power-cord-reliant device. 1-2 hours in standby mode and it drains 33% of my battery from 100% to 66%. The only stop-gap to it is to put it into Low-Power-Consumption mode or Airplane mode. Airplane mode for my only line of tele-communication is not a solution.

I now have to keep this thing tethered to the wall after 4-5 hours of standby as it's almost dead after this time frame.

I've noticed it's quite prominent when I'm at work and on their wifi network. I've turned the wifi off to see if that causes any change - which didn't fix it either.

So all those articles stating 11.4.1 has fixed the battery drain are dead wrong - it's made it worse.

The same reason why I want to downgrade mine to 11.4 at at least I wasn’t experiencing this kind of a constant rebooting when I was using it without upgrade.

HOW CAN I BE ABLE TO DOWNGRADE THE IOS TO 11.4.

And the rate at which my battery drain is just alarming.

The data is being consumed too fast. I used a data of 2gb to upgrade an iOS of approximately 300mb. That is really not cool.

Hello,

I am also having a battery drain issue on my iPhone X on iOS 11.4.1. Although Siri isn't the cause, I have no idea what is...

I am trying to do a DFU Restore right now as I am hoping this will fix the issue. I would also recommend setting up as new instead of restoring from a backup. This completely reinstalls the iOS Bootloader onto your device.

To enter DFU Mode you have plug your device into a Mac or PC with iTunes installed and open. Then, you have to quick-press the volume up button, quick-press the volume down button, and then press and hold the side button until the screen goes black. Once the screen goes black, quickly press and hold both the side and volume down buttons together for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, release the side button without letting go of the volume down button, then continue holding down the volume down button for at least 5 seconds. Don't let go until you get a pop-up notification on iTunes saying that you need to restore. If you're screen is black and iTunes says you need to restore, you are good to go. If your phone restarts and nothing happens, you need to try again. If everything seems good, press the restore button on iTunes and set up as new once the process has finished.

Please let me know how it goes for you and if you see an improvement in your battery life.

Cheers!

SAME HERE. My iPhone 7 was fine before i updated it. But now, this battery drain is so terrible that i can't even use my phone for 2 hours or more. I don't have any auto-sync like bluetooth, airdrop, push mail or any apps that uses auto-sync or auto-fetch. Not even using location, except for Find iPhone in system use. This is so terrible. I'm worrying about the battery's life. I'm worried that this is one of apple's INTENTIONAL WAY of damaging our phones, i just hope not. I HOPE THAT THEY IMMEDIATELY FIX THIS ISSUE.

Took your suggestion- did a full reset. No effect on my newly increased battery drain issues since 11.4.1 (iphone7). Plus, it changed all of my privacy settings, location services, deleted all of my wifi passcodes, even background images. If this worked it would have been worth it, but now it's just 2 hours of annoyance trying to get everything back to the way it was. grrrr. thanks for the suggestion but this wasn't worth it for me.

Tip: Often (always? dunno), with iOS updates, comes a reset of the battery voltage vs time profile. The phone will need to re-learn where your battery is in its lifecycle. While this doesn't explain the extreme battery drain situations, it's not uncommon for your phone to report a lower battery percentage than you're used to. Use the phone over a few charge and drain cycles, and the firmware will re-learn the voltage profile and begin to report a more accurate battery drain percentage.

So- probably the first thing we should all do is just wait a while and see if this problem is still there in a couple weeks. I've gone through this before.

Iphone 6s, no battery problems until IOS upgrade. Now if I use my phone, battery drains. Need to recharge 3-4 times a day. This is my 3rd iPhone, never had this kind of issue, my mom still uses my old iPhone 4. Not willing to spend X amount of money on new battery or phone because of a faulty software. If I need to buy a new phone just because of this.. definitely wont be Apple.

Hi,

I'm also facing the same issue. Yesterday, I have received a call from customer care as my friend posted the same issue on Twitter. Support guy told me to go service center and they will check phone batter as everything is fine in my phone and there is some issue with battery as I'm using this Iphone 6 from last three years and apple will replace the batter at minimum cost as it's decided by APPLE but when I asked why should I need to pay this amount as it's not my fault, this problem is with IOS 11.4.1 then he replied your phone is old and battery problem will come. Then I replied if iphone needs to replace after three years then why should anyone buy iphone, I can switch to android if a person need to change iphone after two or three years, what is the sense of spending huge amount on iphone then he was speechless. He also don't know the amount of battery replacement, he only knows that service center will replace the battery at minimum cost.

My iphone was perfectly fine before updating this ios 11.4.1 and from last week I'm facing this issue.

I would to like to say apple will loose all customers if they don't resolve this issue as no one buy iphone if he/she need to replace after three years.

Thanks,

Adetee

I have this problem too, I thought something is wrong with my phone or the battery is already exhausted and I was about to buy a new battery or change my phone untill I searched and found out that many Apple users have this problem thanks to the last update. After I updated to IOS 11.4.1 my battery started to drain without even touching my phone and I noticed sometimes it litterly jumps down 3-5% at once. I used to charge it only at night (once a day) now i have to put it on charge at work, in the car and everytime I have a chance to. It is a huge problem and you gotta do something about it very soon...
