IOS 11.4.1 Terrible battery drain

I was on ios 11.3 and updated to iOS IOS 11.4.1 which shocked me with severe battery drain. I’d say iOS 11.3 served better battery consumption. Please, Apple, do something to iOS IOS 11.4.1 to prevent battery drain. My device is iPad mini 2 with retina display.

I had the same issue in iOS 11 for iPhone and iPad (iPad was worse). Calendar app was the culprit. Calendar on iPhone and iPad was consistenty 60%-90% of battery usage. What solved it for me was: removing (turning off) and adding back (turning back on) calendars for iCloud, outlook, gmail, yahoo (I have about 6 I sync with). I removed and then added back Icals that I subscribed to. Then turning all to Fetch except for iCloud - I kept that as Push. Then setting Fetch to automatic. Powered off and then back on. This worked in iOS 11 and 12. No more abnormal battery usage. I can’t say exactly which portion of that process solved the issue, but I’m back to normal now. Good luck.

Hi,

I'm also facing the same issue. Yesterday, I have received a call from customer care as my friend posted the same issue on Twitter. Support guy told me to go service center and they will check phone batter as everything is fine in my phone and there is some issue with battery as I'm using this Iphone 6 from last three years and apple will replace the batter at minimum cost as it's decided by APPLE but when I asked why should I need to pay this amount as it's not my fault, this problem is with IOS 11.4.1 then he replied your phone is old and battery problem will come. Then I replied if iphone needs to replace after three years then why should anyone buy iphone, I can switch to android if a person need to change iphone after two or three years, what is the sense of spending huge amount on iphone then he was speechless. He also don't know the amount of battery replacement, he only knows that service center will replace the battery at minimum cost.

My iphone was perfectly fine before updating this ios 11.4.1 and from last week I'm facing this issue.

I would to like to say apple will loose all customers if they don't resolve this issue as no one buy iphone if he/she need to replace after three years.

Thanks,

Adetee

I have this problem too, I thought something is wrong with my phone or the battery is already exhausted and I was about to buy a new battery or change my phone untill I searched and found out that many Apple users have this problem thanks to the last update. After I updated to IOS 11.4.1 my battery started to drain without even touching my phone and I noticed sometimes it litterly jumps down 3-5% at once. I used to charge it only at night (once a day) now i have to put it on charge at work, in the car and everytime I have a chance to. It is a huge problem and you gotta do something about it very soon...

Ditto. Battery dropping 1-2 percent a minute, with cell off, wifi off, BT off [While on the charger and showing green battery icon]. No background apps running. I rebooted the phone multiple times, still tanking incredibly fast.

Charging will not keep up with the battery drop rate. No background refresh turned on.

Battery App says battery rating is 90%. I replaced it 2 months ago.

Apple, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIX THIS POS IOS???????????????

Stop patting yourself on the back for company net worth and fix this crap!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only with Apple (I guess) you get to learn that your mobile battery can get defected just in minutes. One moment it is OK and right after updating to 11.4.1, it is being drained terribly i.e. 1min = 1%. I have iPhone 5s and it was running like a charm before I upgraded to 11.4.1. The mobile just gets shutdown and shows empty battery. When I plugin into charger, it gets switched on and shows same percentage of battery it was showing before shutting down. As said earlier, and battery drain is terrible. Tried to reset all settings/network settings but no use. 😟

I guess I'm a bit confused about what you are seeing for the Personal Hotspot setting. There should be an "On/Off" switch at the top of the Personal Hotspot screen so you can turn it off completely.

You can access that screen by either going to Settings>Cellular>Personal Hotspot, or by going to Settings>Personal Hotspot:

Is this where you are not able to get to the detail screen? Is it the Personal Hotspot menu item where it won't go any further?

Yes, as I stated pressing that Personal Hotspot setting selection area has no affect.

I do not have the option to follow Settings>Personal Hotspot as you suggested, I can only go Settings>Cellular>Personal Hotspot.

My pic shows you as far as I can get. The spinning wheel to the right seems to act like the Apple spinning beach ball and indicate the feature is "busy" and I can't proceed.

OK, then I would suggest your next step would be to go to reset your device:

  • On an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Side and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
  • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If that doesn't allow you to go into the Personal Hotpspot setting to turn it off, then try resetting your Network settings:

Settings>Reset>Reset Network Settings. The spinning wheel next to your Hotspot option implies that it is currently turned on and maybe looking for a Bluetooth or USB connection.

My iPhone 6 has battery drain issue after upgrading from 11.4 to 11.4.1. I did reset to all settings and network settings as someone suggested in this forum. Thanks to that person. My battery issue did not solved yet but it has made my mobile faster than before. I was waiting for this issue to get resolved. Now when I open settings, contacts, messages they all open faster than before. I was thinking that I may have to buy new iPhone as Apple had slowed all iPhones over time with their software upgrades. They lure us with features and we upgrade iPhones to make them slower. This is a game they are playing from long.

Anyway, I hope Apple releases new update to resolve this issue faster.

Thanks All!
