IOS 11.4.1 WIFI BUG

Since updating to 11.4.1 my wifi doesn't seem to be working correctly.

I am connected to the wifi but apps like youtube, facebook and whatsapp struggle to connect to the internet but eventually connect after a minute or two.

My old ipad mini first gen is running ios 9 and is working perfectly on the same wifi, so this is clearly an issue with the new ios.

Do you also have this problem?

I put this down to poor quality control, again.

I would try to reset your network settings (this procedure resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before, but nothing else).

Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

When done, restart your iP6 and test it.

I would try also to turn off your iphone, then turn off your modem-router, and leave it off for about 10 minutes.

Turn your router back on and wait until it completely ends its configuration.

Then turn on your iphone and connect it to the wifi network. Test it for a while.

If nothing changes, I would check also your router settings (see also if you can configure your device to be connected using 5Ghz (not 2.4).

Check also your router settings again:

Sorry about that.

If your device has the same issue connecting to ALL wifi networks, having already tried some basic troubleshooting steps, I would try to re-install a fresh copy of your iOS, that could be corrupted.

To perform this operation, make a full backup of your iPhone, then restore it to factory settings, and, at the end, set it up as new, following the instructions provided in this support guide:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

When done, test your device wifi connections for a while, without restoring your data from backup. If it works fine, you can exclude a hardware issue.

Then restore your data from your previously made backup.

Hubby and I have the same issue on iPhone SE (x2) and iPad Air2 (x2). We've done all the resets, forget networks, renaming networks, and hard restarts etc. Been surviving on tapping the wifi button on and off to get a few mins of internet.

I saw something on another thread (iOS 11.4 - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth no longer function) about Bluetooth and tried turning BT off on the iPad. Lo and behold I have working wifi back. Unfortunately, this is useless on the iPhones as we need BT for Apple Watch. It's not a solution, but it's a workaround if you don't need BT on all the time.

Please allow me to totally support your suggestion to change your network connection to 5.0 from 2.4. Just bought latest WIFI iPad and connected to 2.4 and worked initially. Within a couple weeks, WIFI connection became unreliable. Switched to 5.0 and iPad was happy again. Two other Apple devices were moved also. I know it could be my Comcast router 2.4. died but the routers 5.0 works just fine. No OS upgrades were done on any device!

Same problem: everything was working fine on my iPhone 6s until I upgraded to iOS 11.4.1

Now I cannot stay connected to my home WiFi network. The WiFi symbol and settings say I am commected - but no web page or apps will load. If I briefly disconnect then reconnect to WiFi it works - but then 10 mins later I have the same problem. My iPad (which I have not upgraded to 11.4.1) is working absolutely fine, as are all my non-Apple devices.

I tired doing a full backup/restore on my iPhone but it didn’t help. I’ve tried modifying the settings on my router/modem and using Google’s DNS on my iPhone but nothing has helped.

My broadband provider Virgin Media seem to be aware that this is an issue effecting their Superhub 2 modem/router and devices running iOS 11.4.1 - here is a link to their support forum where there are now almost 300 posts of people reporting the exact same problem: https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Networking-and-WiFi/IPhone-iOS-11-4-1/td-p/ 3771082

I hope that behind the scenes Apple and Virgin Media are working together to come up with either a firmware update for the Superhub 2 or an iOS update that resolves this bug.

Similar problem here, on two iPhone SE: After upgrading to ios 11.4.1, got frequent nonresponsive wifi connection - only with our wifi repeater (a fritz!repeater 310, no problems with our primary router).

To try to cure this I did the upgrade to ios 12 public beta 5 yesterday. This went smooth - and the wifi problem is gone!

Also didn't observe any other problems with ios 12 so far, apart from one app (Redshift) crashing on start. So I'm quite happy with ios 12 beta so far.

Same issue on both my iPhone SE and iPad 4 Mini - only at home not noticed at work. I found the quickest temp fix it to turn air-plane mode on the off, then can last 3-30mins before failing again.

Was really hoping Apple would have fixed by now, or at least admit it was an issue... lots of threads here and elsewhere, clearly an issue. Best guess I;ve seen so far is it may be to do with certain access points, possible dual 2.4/5GHz frequency ones

I also have this problem - with both my iPad Air2 and my iphone 6s. The iphone updated to IOS 11.4.1 a couple of days after the Ipad and only started exhibiting the problem then so I can only assume the problem is related to the update. I have to disconnect and reconnect wifi on the device every 10 minutes or so. I am on Virgin media at home and the problem seems to be particularly bad there. I was at my mother's (BT broadband) yesterday with my Ipad and it was fine.

I very much doubt a new WiFi router/access point solved this problem since the issue is with the IOS 11.4.1 itself.

Sometimes after waking up the iPad/iPhone it takes just a few short seconds before it starts working with WiFi (maybe you got lucky and that's what you experienced), but more often you have to wait for at least around 15-20 seconds. You should notice that next time you wake up your device.
