spreediscount

is this a virus - how can I stop these amazing amazon discount offers from spreediscount.com? It looks like a phishing pop up to me and it pops up and removes my history so I can’t back out of it.

Check to see if Safari is syncing to iCloud.

1. go to settings

2. click on your name

3. click on iCloud

4. A list of apps using iCloud will show up. If Safari is checked, unclick it (turn it off).

5. Clear your browser history as described in previous posts

I’ve has this issue on my iPad for about a week on eBay I cleared the website history. It came back. I did a factory reset. It came back. I kept redoing this because it at least was a temporary fix.

This morning, while in Safari, I clicked on the ”layer” icon which shows all the tabs that are open. I noticed a list of sites below the tabs. I hadn’t seen this before. I looked closely and the only thing listed was the spree discount stuff. Above the list was a line. Above the line was a cloud icon, which made me wonder if it was being downloaded from an iCloud backup, which I thought I had turned off all uses of. Apparently not. Safari was set up to sync with iCloud, which apparently had a backup that was syncing to my iPad. I deleted the backup in the iCloud and turned off Safari using iCloud. Since I did that, it hasn’t come back.

Safari – Popup takes over

Safari – Popup takes over (2)

Popup remover – Scam Zapper

If the pop-up reloads, force quit Safari (command - option/alt - esc) and reopen with the shift key held down. If that doesn't work, disconnect from the Internet, go to Safari/History and delete the website. Quit and reopen with the shift key held down. Then reconnect to the Internet.

And not just new apps that are downloaded as I haven’t done that.... maybe it’s popping up through app upgrades too. 🤔 I use Yahho Finance and have had no problems, but it shows up on all of the links in My eBay or searches when I’m signed in to eBay.... however, so far it’s stopped since I started using Crystal and AdBlock today. One thing I like about Crystal, if it does show back up, there’s an easy button in Crystal to send them a report on it. But, we’ll see.... I’m still crossing my fingers & toes.

Tbh, I was never convinced it was app related. I think it’s an ad/redirect that’s infiltrated certain sites that may (or may not) require signing in. It doesn’t appear on eBay if I’m not signed in. It was all over the place, watching, selling, searching, if I am signed in. I’m assuming those who have seen it on Yahoo Fantasy Football and Finance are signed in as well. Not sure why it makes a difference, but it seems to be a common trait.

Deleting the website data most likely will not help long term. I have 0 bytes website data shown under the Advanced tab and still have the issue.

The SiteBlocker (content blocker) app stops me from actually seeing the Amazon Rewards message but the redirect is still happening with the message that a content blocker stopped the site. I can hit the back button and go back usually. So it is a partial fix in that you don’t see the ad and it doesn’t totally clear the website history. But you still can’t do anything on the site you want to use due to the redirect.

I’ve had this SiteBlocker app installed and it has been blocking it this month for several days so far.

Spent a week on this issue and I think I finally found the answer. Just follow these steps:

  1. Copy spree discount link.
  2. Close Safari
  3. Go to settings and select safari and make sure the following features are turned on. Block Pop up. Prevent cross tracking. Ask website not to track me. Fraudulent website warning
  4. Back up To iCloud (Not really necessary) but you never know.
  5. Clear history and website date.
  6. Go to advance settings in safari.
  7. Click web site date click view all and delete.
  8. Now go to General in setting and turn on restrictions. Note you must create a 4 digit PW for it (Don’t forget it!). Year of birth will do.
  9. Select website then chose limit adult content (sorry no more ****)
  10. Then scroll down to never allow and click add a website and enter spree discounts we site address. It is BEST to copy and past the link to make sure you have it correct). Then save.
  11. Finally just for good measure I would do a hard reset and that **** is gone.

I did a hard reset multiple times, each time restoring as new and not from a backup. After a factory reset, it seems the default is to allow all programs to sync to iCloud. If you got the popup while Safari or any other browser was synced to iCloud, it would have backed up the spreediscount popup to iCloud. As soon as I turned off the Safari sync to iCloud (and I won’t turn it back on again willingly!) and cleared all the website data, my ipad has been spree free. The ”layer” icon I referenced (I’m sure it has a read name but I don’t know what it is) is the icon in the browser that show all the tabs that are open—it‘s the icon that looks like 2 squares on top of but offset from each other. On my ipad it’s at the upper right corner of the browser. On my phone, it’s on the lower right of the browser.
